Hilsen fra Københåvn, Twenty three hours in transit and here we are across the other side of the world. Left Perth right on time 11pm Tuesday and had an excellent flight on Qantas to Tokyo. As soon as we levelled out after takeoff there was food on offer - at midnight!? Adrian said the rare beef fillet was superb, washed down with top quality Australian shiraz of course! The skybeds were amazing - fully lying down with pillows and blankets altho its always hard to sleep in a strange environment. For insomniacs there was a choice of 60 different movies or Tv programmes (e.g Mythbusters & Da Vinci Code) - choose your own on your personal screen. The flight was very smooth till about 5am Perth time when we were woken by a seatbelt announcemnt followed ... read more

Geo: 55.6763, 12.5681They are great for the ole festivals here, this is the 2nd film fest. since we been here and if you know me you'll know I overdose in film festivals & then don't go to the cinema for 2 years. So anyway the CIFF was on the last 2 weeks of Sept. 06. Am big into Finland now as have seen a great Finnish/Swedish movie called 'Mother of mine', about the 70,000 Finnish kids sent to Sweden in WWII for safe keeping. Human Interest kind of thing - I wouldn't say there was a dry eye on the house. Then coincidently Mum rings me the other day & announces she 'feels like spending some money let's go somehwere' so I said 'cool you are onto the right woman where will we go', so we ... read more

The Kiwi Invasion When the Germans invaded Denmark in the beginning of World War II the Germans crossed the border and shouted out: “Hands Up You Dumme Dänen” (you should read this with a German accent). Because the country is so small everyone was able to hear them shout and the Danes simply went: “OK” and put the arms up and threw the weapons on the ground. And so Denmark was occupied by the Germans until the end of the war. Oh, I think there were one or two people involved in the resistance but their work never mounted to much. So yes, the Danes have been hassled for giving up without fighting back for years. And they say history repeats itself. So perhaps this explains why I made no resistance when I was invaded by ... read more

On September 17, 2006 history was made in Copenhagen when the England Dragonslayers took on the Denmark Vikings. It was Europe's first international junior Aussie Rules match. Up for grabs was the inaugural King Canute Cup. In a major upset, the young Dragonslayers 6.10 (46) defeated the Vikings 0.6 (6). I have been involved in international footy since 1996, and this trip was definitely one of the highlights. The kids were incredibly well behaved and surpassed our greatest expectations. ... read more

Hi All, We had 7 hours to kill in Copenhagen between flights so we decided to head into town and do some sightseeing. Fairly handy got to from the airport as the train station goes from the airport right into the middle of town. The danish Krona took a bit of getting used to. Tried to with draw the equivalent of 40 quid and ended up withdrawing about 400...... Ah well managed to get it changed to bhat at the airport before we left.. Copenhagen itself is a nice city... Walked around doing the usual tommy tourist bits,, sightseeing, shopping and of couse sampling some of the local produce as you do.. Ended up in a Danish Bar where they had a promo where you can by 5 glasses of local beers for trying out . ... read more

August 22, 2006 - August 27, 2006 Our arrival to Copenhagen did not go over quite as smoothly as we had hoped. Once we arrived at the central train station, we headed to the tourist information center. Since we weren’t sure when we would leave Stockholm, we only had a hotel booked ahead of time for Thursday through Sunday. This meant that we’d have to find a hotel for Tuesday and Wednesday if we planned to stay in Copenhagen for the remainder of our vacation. Thankfully, for a small fee the tourist information office had the ability to book places to stay for travelers in need. Having arrived at 6:00pm, we were anxious to locate a room so we could drop off our bags and start exploring Copenhagen. Problem was, there were basically no rooms to ... read more

Im kinda angry becaue travel blog screwed up my last journal because I "maxed out" the text and the last 5 lines I tried to write would be deleted every time I tried to save, so instead of finishing Western Europe off in one last journal, I have to have a lingering Hamburg 3 night stay to write about in this one, which I wanted dedicated to Copenhagen and the Baltic ferry crossings, of which there were two. So instead of complaing I should start typing this new journal up. So yeah, you may gorge your eyes and rot your spare time reading my journey from Hamburg, including a run in with the "run off" from Wacken Openair festival, which if you dont know it yet, you soon will. After a big night on the town ... read more

Left Amsterdam for Copenhagen this evening. My flight was scheduled to leave AMS at 605 PM and after an hour I arrived in Copenhagen. Got some money at the ATM at the airport, stopped by the information desk to ask for ways to get to the hostel which is quite centrally located in the center city. I made reservations online before leaving home but I did not pay so I was a little nervous if my reservation had been canceled. Got help from a local for the bus departed location and the stop to get off. I was able to check in and pay for my accommodation at the hostel. With 1020 beds, it is the largest hostel in Europe (?). I met a Finn roommate who is on his way to Norway for his summer ... read more

Well as you all know I headed off to Scandinavia a few weeks ago to join a contiki tour. Were we all in search of a prince like Mary? Or maybe just a frog or two? Who knows? Lets see if I can remember all the highlights......... DENMARK. A country made up of 500 ish islands across the Baltic sea and birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, our starting point was the capital Copenhagen which I think must be the worlds bicycle capital. I found the starting hostel with Brianna and Stew, two fellow travellers I met at baggage reclaim after hearing them chatting about the same trip. Our little group grew to 5 when we met two more on the wrong train out of town. Yes I know, you'd think after all that travelling I could ... read more
