Matt Anderson It's never too late to get bit by the travel bug!

I'm fairly new to the whole international travel game. I'm hoping over the next several years to fill most of my free time with grand adventures overseas. I've got a long list of destinations where I hope to build numerous friendships and lifelong memories. Enjoy my ramblings as I document my experiences...

Thursday July 17, 2008 - Sunday July 20, 2008 <<Unfortunately, we didn’t take a lot of photos while in Montreal. Seemed the camera always got left behind in the hotel room.>> So Tegan and I headed up to Canada to attend Brian and Ghislaine’s wedding in Montreal. We spent 3 nights in Montreal and 2 nights in Quebec City. What follows is a brief description about our time in each city. Overall I really enjoyed the feel of Montreal. Festivals aplenty, the streets seemed very alive despite the unpredictable showers. A very friendly feel, I don’t [View Full Entry]

Friday January 18, 2008 - Tuesday January 22, 2008 Our final stop for our New Year vacation was Bangkok, Thailand. Based on past vacation destinations, I think we were both a bit skeptical on how we would enjoy Bangkok. We’ve started to recognize that for our preferences a big, modern city typically feels too much like home, and therefore fails to deliver that inspiring feeling of experiencing something very new. Kuala Lumpur and Stockholm are two past destinations where this held true. Fortunately for us, for a large city, Bangkok had a good measure of uniqueness that neve [View Full Entry]

Wednesday January 16, 2008 - Friday January 18, 2008 As we planned our vacation this past summer, we researched many different locations. Chiang Mai was one of those locations that we constantly waivered on. It wasn’t until the last minute that we decided to add Chiang Mai to our itinerary, and I’m happy to say that we were thankful many times after we arrived in Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai seemed like a good fit from the beginning. A sizable city by population standards with a small town feel. Everything in Chiang Mai seemed to move at a pleasant pace much to [View Full Entry]

Thursday January 10, 2008 - Wednesday January 16, 2008 When we first started brainstorming about our trip to Southeast Asia it became clear early on that we wanted to spend some time relaxing on a beach somewhere in Thailand. We figured with all the sight-seeing throughout our vacation, a sizeable break in the middle of our trip to simply relax would be very well earned and appreciated. We considered the west peninsula beaches around Phucket, but ultimately felt that the descriptions of Koh Samui Island off the eastern peninsula were more aligned with our interests. We booked si [View Full Entry]

Monday January 7, 2008 - Thursday January 10, 2008 There are way too many things to share about the three days we spent in Siem Reap. We absolutely loved our time in Siem Reap and feel it will likely be the highlight of our vacation in Southeast Asia. As a result of having so many impressions and opinions to share, I’m going to try and keep this blog entry blunt and brief. We arrived Monday morning bright and early at 8:00am. Our hotel picked us up at the airport. We stayed at City River Hotel. The hotel was definitely more on [View Full Entry]

Sunday January 6, 2008 - Monday January 7, 2008 Our visit to Kuala Lumpur was a quick one. It was basically a lengthy layover on our way to Siem Reap, Cambodia. We were scheduled to arrive in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday at 3:00pm, and depart Monday at 7:00am. Not a lot of time to see the city, but just enough to create a lasting impression. Our flight in was on Air Asia. As we experienced on our flight from Bangkok to Penang, everything seemed to go perfectly with our air travel. I continue to be impressed with the low cost Air [View Full Entry]

January 1, 2008 - January 6, 2008 Welcome to the world of jet lag! We kicked off our Southeast Asia vacation with 36 hours of travel before reaching our hotel in Penang. Like nothing I’ve ever experienced. 2 hours at Dulles airport. 14 hours onboard Korean Air flight to Seoul. 4 hours in Seoul airport. 6 hours onboard Korean Air flight to Bangkok. 7 hours in Bangkok airport. 2 hours onboard Air Asia flight to Penang. 1 hour bus ride to our hotel in Batu Feringgi, Penang. Oh look, a bed! All of the flights were very smooth, operated to perfection. [View Full Entry]

June 20, 2007 - June 25, 2007 Work in progress, more write-up to come.... United 1, Anderson 0. In the early innings of the Anderson male bonding summer vacation, United Airlines shutout team Anderson before things could even get started. Up early Wednesday morning, through security in a blink of an eye, and on the plane with plenty of time to spare, a voice of the intercom brought everything to a screeching halt. “It seems that the entire United computer system has crashed. I’m afraid we won’t be flying until the system is back online and safety [View Full Entry]

August 22, 2006 - August 27, 2006 Our arrival to Copenhagen did not go over quite as smoothly as we had hoped. Once we arrived at the central train station, we headed to the tourist information center. Since we weren’t sure when we would leave Stockholm, we only had a hotel booked ahead of time for Thursday through Sunday. This meant that we’d have to find a hotel for Tuesday and Wednesday if we planned to stay in Copenhagen for the remainder of our vacation. Thankfully, for a small fee the tourist information office had the ability to book places to [View Full Entry]
