Time is not on my hands these days. I would love to be able to blog as much as I did when we were travelling for a year, but it is just not possible! Therefore, our recent few days in Dubrovnik, followed by a week in Montenegro will exist in these two short (but sweet?!) blogs... Some of the highlights of our couple of days in Dubrovnik included: * the weather! I loved the blue skies and sunshine. We had perfect weather for our entire trip. If anything, it was too hot, hitting around 35 degrees on most days. This meant that culture was mostly out of the question, so instead we found other sun-friendly ways to amuse ourselves. * walking the city walls at sunset. The perfect time to capture the light on the red ... read more

Friday 10th July 2009 Got up at about 6.50am this morning, I am a woman on a mission today to get to the internet cafe and update my fantasy league for the NRL and it has to be done by 9.30am! So I am up and get brekky which is a banana I had left over from the day before and we are served salami, cheese, cucumber and tomato with bread.... sorry I just cannot get used to this first thing in the morning!! I manage to leave on the bus about 8.08am while everyone else has brekky and meets at the bus around 8.30. I catch the bus to the Old City and the information centre is open! hooray! So I get my team updated and wander outside to watch all the tourist buses arrive ... read more

Today started out as hot or hotter than yesterday but the trick was to get going early. We were out by 8:30 and had 5 good hours of touring done before the sweltering midday sun got to a point where us mere mortals couldn't handle it. (People here are dressed in jeans and leggings and even long sleeve shirts believe it or not! The temperature in the main square at 9 pm read 28 degrees so I can only imagine what it was at noon today! ). All that said, the mornings and late evenings are great and we took full advantage. We saw the Milonvic sculture museum (his home full of sculptures that he donated as a museum as well as the museum of naive art. I've included a few pics of the best churches ... read more

Croatia: 11th - 18th July 2009 “Umm...now?” I wasn't sure if I'd heard Skipper Ben correctly. I thought he said to stand on the pier, and as the boat motored out of the parking spot (slip?), I was supposed to push a little on the hull so it wouldn't bump or scrape against the pier, and then just as the stern was passing by, I was supposed to climb on. But, Skipper Ben failed to take into account that I'm scatter-brained and uncoordinated, which meant that there were even odds that I'd forget or fail to board at the precise moment. Fortunately, some modicum of survival instinct kicked in at the appropriate time, and I made it aboard as we motored out of the marina at Primosten, Croatia, on the Dalmatian Coast. And thus, our long ... read more

We arrived in Zagreb today on schedule - at 12 noon - and stepped out of our train to an unbelievable heat! I couldn’t get internet at the hotel so I don’t know what the temperature was but it felt like 40 celsius. After a fairly long and steamy tram ride we arrived at our hotel area. (Trams here come in two flavours: the new modern air-conditioned variety and the old somewhat beaten up window open if you are lucky variety.) We got the latter on our route! The hotel is very comfortable and central air makes the room nice and cool, thankfully. After a shower we took the tram again back to the centre of town and did a little exploring. It was too hot to walk much so we stopped for lunch and a ... read more

written and contributed by Liz and Ali Warr “Right guys, this next bit is going to be a bit tricky so I just need to explain to you all how it works cos I need you all to help”. In a touching display of faith and courage, Skipper Ben is going to trust his crew of merry buffoons to help him moor a quarter of a million pound yacht. It seems this involves going in backwards, into a small gap between two other people’s doubtless none too cheap yachts. Ah. “So, Raymes, Doug, you take short lines from the stern, Liz we need the fenders all off, Ali you need the boat hook and you take the line the guy passes you up to the bows quick as you can and get the tension on. I’ll ... read more

Blog Entry: I've Lost Count: CROATIA! (I don't want to leave) This morning I lost my breakfast... the ship left at about 8 am from Croatia and right off the bat, it was rocky. There was a storm as we left Croatia so the seas weren't as calm as they usually are. I knew I wasn't going to feel good so I popped 2 Meclizines and headed up for breakfast. Oh and luckily I grabbed a handy dandy barf bag. Anyway I got up from the computer after breakfast and just lost it. I ran over to the corner... I don't think anyone saw me... if they did, oh well. I'm so used to it! I made it to class long enough to tell him I just got sick in the hallway and he sent me ... read more

Number of pax: 22 (20 girls under 23 ... It was quite the spectacle!) Lilo count; (are we still doing this, seeing as they all blow away?) I don't think we had any left, but some pax bought lilos along the way so we had 2 onboard by the end. Check-in; all good. Day 1; Omis Number of pax for dinner; 22 (bbq onboard) Day 4 of my non-drinking stint and I was feeling great, but it clearly couldn't go on any longer, so I got back into the swing of things with some cocktails on the boat with the girls. As the whispers spread around the Omis docks of 20 hot girls alone on a boat, we had many male visitors venturing over that night to see for themselves. Good night had by all. Day ... read more

The past 3 days have been heaven. On Day 2, a couple girls and I walked to the Old Town (without getting lost) and headed straight for the beach. Unfortunately, like in Capri, the beach was a rock beach. It’s so rough on the feet! It was fun though and the water was great. We headed back and called it an early night after our late-night adventure the night before. On Day 3 I went on a kayaking and snorkeling trip with my Oceanography class. The beach we went to was down this super long path and was so pretty. We kayaked along the coast from the beach to the Old City and then headed across the water to an island called Lokrum. The kayaking was very cool and allowed us to see a lot of ... read more
