So I just returned from Kasjuni beach. Awesome place. Hiked up through the hills, stopped at a firestation and asked two guys there who seemed to be checking out some porn for directions. Then went down this rather trecherous path and stumbled upon this tiny little yellow church with a ton of candles lit in it and a small bell on top. Eventually found my way down this path constantly jumping from rock to rock in order to evade any landmines left over from the war. Got down, beautiful bay. Plonked myself down on the beach to only be surrounded within five minutes by three scantily clad elderly Croatian men with rather alarmingly large packages(hey i was not looking but when these guys wear their lolly pouches you have no choice) Went for a dip, lay ... read more

Dobry dan! I am in Croatia at the moment. I've been here for a little over a week and have nothing but good things to say about this country. Adam and I have this fantastic apartment on the 6th floor of this ancient building. It's in the heart of Diocletan(roman emperor in AD 235) palace. It's a quirky little place with horse shoes, old family pics, wooden roses and bhuddas hanging from the walls. The best things about it is that it has this awesome little balcony which we cook on and if you climb on top of the roof you can sit there and enjoy a beer whilst looking over the whole town with church bells seemingly always ringing. We arrived from Zadar two days ago, the three hour drive down the coast was superb. ... read more

We made it to Dubrovnik, the first big stop on our trip. Our flight here was actually really short; not because we slept, because we didn't. It was short because we had the priviledge of taking care of "GRAMPA" Marcel. GRAMPA Marcel: We noticed this little Grampa in his suit and tie right away because he was in the row behind us. He was in the middle of a 5-person row and he was really scared and really short! Unfortunately, he was only there for a few minutes! About 30minutes into the flight, he decided he needed to get off. He was pacing up and down the aisle, trying to get to the doors. He was talking loud about something or the other, and I noticed Dana start sinking down in her chair! No one knew ... read more

Hello all, We we´ve arrived in Croatia about an hour ago, and have time to kill between Zagreb and our connecting train to Split. Well since the lst blog we´ve been very busy...had a couple of nights in Rome, meet up with a cool couple from Canada, who guided us to the hostel based 5 minutes away from the Vatacan city. We spend two nights there, did St Peterś and collaseum in one day. The weathers not been great so just taken the option to just keep moving. I will fill the rest of the details in later, but heres a quick run down of the other places in Italy we´ve visited; Pisa - Just spent an hour or two there, did the sights and left. Florence - Spent todays there in maybe the best hostel ... read more

Okay so let me start out by saying that I had a real rough time trying to get from Hvar to Dubrovnik, I had to push my way onto bus that was totally packed and about halfway thru the ride some lady comes on and says that she has reserved seats, so in other words I get to sit on the floor for about 5 hours, lots of fun. So Hvar was really nice, rented a boat as soon as we got there with a few americans that I met as soon as we arrived at the pension. I love getting off the ferry here in croatia because you get absolutely attacked by old ladies trying to get you to stay in there spare bedrooms. Pretty much you just pick and choose which one you want ... read more

Okay so I made it to Split and the weather wasnt all that great. Instantly attacked by little old ladies and signs with rooms available. Found one that looked decent and followed her around town until we got to her house where I instanly crashed out for a couple of hours. Wasnt that impressed with Split the "beaches" were okay, the water was warm but it was really hard to find one with sand, it was mostly just rocks and concrete slabs to lay on, I guess that i was under the assumption that there were sandy beaches in croatia. So after two days of rain decided to call it quits on split and head to an island off the coast called Hvar. Rode on my first ferry and was really excited about it, the enthusiasm ... read more

Many people dismiss the thought of taking a break in Croatia and I think this is a real shame. With cheap flights due to budget airlines a visit is highly recommended and I have visited three times now. By far my favorite place is Dubrovnik due to its history and wonderful atmosphere. A walk around the walls is a must do and you can swim in many areas around the city. The bathing areas here are amazing and the water is so blue. As the sun sets you can dine in the harbor and walk up the many steps of the clock tower overlooking Luza Square. You can get some breathtaking sunset photos here!... read more

My second time in Croatia was as special as the first time. What a beautiful place full of very friendly people! The natural beauty is almost unbeatable (Brazil is the first, so far)! Erik’s family house is in the island of Korcula. Erik’s mum was born there! Once you get there, you don’t want to leave anymore. The food is good, the people are amazing, prices are reasonable, the weather is great and is not too expensive to get there (yet!). Croatia is becoming very popular and every year, there is more and more people going there. We also went to Dubrovnik and it was fantastic! What a place! This time, we invited Sonia and Ale (our Italian friends) to come with us. Perfect company! Not a minute of boredom. We had so much fun! It ... read more

Who would have thought that war ravaged Croatia is the gem of the Adriatic. Sparkling blue beaches, an Ibiza type atmosphere in Hvar, and islands waiting to be discovered. Hvar island is my favorite, although i wish i would have had more time to explore the islands. chilled on a clifside cafe during the day and partied in a castle at night. it was trully unforgettable. it hurt leaving croatia, not because i had to go, but because i accidentally kicked an urchin and its spikes went into my foot and got stung by a bee as i smacked it cuz it got too close to my lasagna. well i guess theres a first time for everything.... read more

we apologie for being very very delinquent with writing on a regular basis. we have no excuse. however, everything is going splendidly well. we are all having a blast and are not looking forward to parting ways with Grant in 3 days. Last you heard, we were in Nice, France. It was incredible there. We had a great time on the beach and going to Monte Carlo. Mark can say he officially gambled while he was there, losing 2 euros on a slot machine. After Nice we took a train north to Interlaken Switzerland where we got the chance to do some incredible moutain biking and exploring. The Swiss Alps are truly awe inspiring. After Switzerland, we planned on going to Italy and then onto Croatia, but because of and Italian rail strike we were forced ... read more
