From the airport in Amsterdam we were taken by bus to our hotel in a small town in Holland, whose name I have forgotten. The landscape was flat but very green, pastoral, calming and very pleasant. Homes were rural and well kept and many dairy cows were seen. The clutter and industrial unsightliness ones sees while traveling in the States was noticeably absent in almost all of Europe. The only part of my European trip where I saw it, surprisely was in Italy, on the way to Venice. We were given the day just to rest, which was welcomed news to me, as I traveled all the way from Hawaii, whereas the others in the group came from various states on the Mainland. First surprise for me was the shower. It was barely larger than a ... read more

I Loved Belgium but this part of my journey cannot be fully documented due to my choice of accomodation. I stayed with a friend and his family and my friend reads my journals and well... I dont want to be too honest because I certainly have no intention of offending him or his family or even the extended people who I met during my stay. Ill have to tread very carefully and try very hard to be entertaining but if I have nothing to complain about it's usually too boring. I guess time will tell and my readers (including my Belgian host) will be the judge. So let me begin this tale, one which spans 12 days, 12 of the best days of my trip so far, to be exact. The trip spans an early exit ... read more

I will be traveling through South East Asia, the journey will start in Thailand, move through Cambodia, enter Laos and end in Thailand. Geo: 51.2439, 4.46397After a great breakfast that was included in our accommodation price, we caught the tram to the Cathedral of our Lady. It is a gothic church and has some of Rubens work in it, and things that all other churches have too.Walked towards the water and saw a castle like building that is now the maritime museum- boring! Continued walking around and found somewhere to try the local cuisine- waffles!! I had cherries and cream on mine and it was delicious!! I then went to the Royal Musuem of Fine Arts- it was a good place to be as it was raining outside. Got an audio guide so i knew what i was looking at. There was a huge room filled with Rubens' work. There was also interesting modern art. Also saw one of ... read more

Geo: 51.2439, 4.46397This morning we checked out of our 19 bed dorm and headed to the train station. We caught the train to Antwerp. It only took and hour and a half. It was raining when we arrived and the thought of having to find our hostel in the rain with our packs didn't appeal, so we got a taxi. He only spoke dutch and expected us to understand, so we just nodded and he laughed (at us I'm sure). This hostel was nice and clean and only 8 of us in the room. We caught the tram into town and walked around. Antwerp is well known for Peter Paul Rubens having lived and worked here about 500 years ago. We went to buy tickets for his house. The lady told us that there was no ... read more

Detour. Instead of going back traight to Amsterdam from Rotterdam. I made a quick dash south to make a short visit to the city of Antwerp. It is only an hour train ride from Rotterdam and you are in a different country. The walk from the train station to the town center is refreshing. I was able to sample the very famous belgian waffle and I request extra whipped cream on top. It is delllicious...and fill up my empty stomach quickly. Able to check out the ING Anwerp 10 miles run through the center city. concert and dancing in the main square. Venture further to the waterfront along the river Scheldt. Take with train back to Amsterdam in late evening. ... read more

Today i woke up at about 8 am and took a shower and french braided my hair, I call that my traveling hairdo. I went to the tube station and topped up my card to get to Heathrow...Surprisingly it only cost me a pound to do that, so that was refreshing and it only took like 45 minutes to get there, not the hour i had planned on. Then, i went to check in for my flight to Brussels. it was through bmi, so i just had to use the self check in machines which were quite easy to use. Also, since i wasn't checking baggage, I had a lot of time to look around the airport at the shops and what not. I had breakfast and waited for my plane. It was on time! YEA! ... read more
