Published: September 19th 2012Europe » Belgium » Antwerp Province » Antwerp‘”To eat ethnic food in the place that gave life, and to immerse oneself in the history and culture of that place, can transform an otherwise mundane meal into an extraordinary experience. “ ( Benning J, 2010) Belgium is famous for its many types of cuisines. I really enjoyed my stay here in Belgium since we ate authentic Belgian Waffles, Belgian Fries and Belgian Chocolates. Most of the Cuisines that I tried were from random restaurants, cafes and food stand ups. I did not anymore researched on what would be the best one since I think it is all the same, so I picked the restaurant/ cafe which will be convenient for my walking. Luckily all of the foods that I have tasted were really good. While walking in the shopping district of Antwerp, Belgium, I ... read more
Our last minute decision to make a quick stop in Belgium was a success! Although we had booked open train tickets to return to Amsterdam from Hamburg as our last trip, we decided that once we hit Amsterdam we would quickly book tickets to Belgium and hop on the first train out. This was all going very smoothly as the next train departed 15 minutes after our arrival; we grabbed a quick bite, bought our tickets, and jumped back onto the train. About 20 minutes into the ride, we started to notice that our train was taking an extra long stop at one of the stations along the way. An announcement came over the speaker rambling something in Dutch and then a lady came through the cabin to alert everyone that a kidnapping had taken place ... read more

AMBERES, la ciudad de los diamantes --- ANTWERPEN, the city of the diamonds
... read more
Antwerp ~ The centre of the Universe If you’re anything like me, you probably won’t ever have heard of Antwerp. But that doesn’t put the Antwerpians off. They believe they are God’s gift to man, and that their city is the centre of the universe. I’m lucky to know one of these preformentioned Antwerpians, so got a local’s eye view of one of Europe’s fashion centres. It’s one of the biggest cities in Belgium but I’m still not sure if it the capital of Flanders or not. There seems to be a lot of competition between Antwerp and Ghent for the most amazing city award. Antwerp really is beautiful. The myth goes that a giant, Antigoon, used to rule the gates to the city and demanded a fee from anyone wishing to enter. Well, one day ... read more
An exceptional museum-a pretty city Antwerp
Published: November 2nd 2011Europe » Belgium » Antwerp Province » AntwerpThe last city we visited in Belgium was Antwerp. A small can compact heart with a large square overlooked by a impressive Stadhuis. From every available space flew an EU country flag. In the middle of the square was a baroque styled fountain. Impressive but not to my taste. Antwerp was on the River Scheldt a large wide and muddy river. There were the usual merchants houses with steep rooves and immaculate brickwork. One of the most interesting features of the city was the museum which was the home of printing. Some years ago we watched a programme on BBC2 narrated by Stephen Fry who visited the Plantin Moretis museum and this was put on the list of things to do. It holds the oldest surviving printing press in the world complete with sets of dies ... read more

Hallo iedereen... Hier staan we weer! ... read more
