Laura at Portofino's
That's the infamous goat cheese souffle on a bed of lettuce. YUMMERS! Today is at sea.
Eating, eating, more eating.
The Caribbean....
Well, less than 24 hours on my cruising odyssey and I'm having a fabulous time with my sister Laura and her two friends Alice and Christie. Christie works here on the Explorer of the Seas and has been giving us better than STAR treatment...Thank you Christie!
Oh, where to start. I guess the obvious place would be the food since it seems like we've been doing a lot of that...consumption of mass quantities of food! Once Christie brought us through security and check in we dropped off our carry on bags in our cabin and then headed up to the Windjammer Restaurant for a scrumptious buffet lunch. The selection was awesome! I didn't even try everything and my plate was just heaping and I didn't even get to the desserts yet! Yikes, I think I'll seriously have to do some shopping for new pants when I get back to Atlanta next week since the only "exercise" we have done so far is 1) stair climbing to and from the food opportunities 2) standing in line at the buffet and 3) a bit of weight training carrying our plates that

Some yummy looking desserts! are laden down with food. LOL
All of the food that I've tried so far has been really good...fried chicken (I don't think I've really had fried chicken since I left Vancouver!), several different pastas, a huge selection of salad and salad toppings, bread galore, fish, mashed potatoes. I could probably go on but it is starting to make me hungry. Perhaps I'll have to continue talking about the food in another entry. lol
Today we are spending time at sea but tomorrow we will be docking in San Juan, Puerto Rico...I think. You see I haven't really been paying all that much attention to where it is we are going and what we'll be doing. I'm just excited to be on this ship! It was funny; yesterday I arrived at the airport and then grabbed a cab and picked up Laura and Alice at the Hyatt before heading to the cruise ship terminal. So of course I started a conversation with the cab driver and one of the questions he asked me was, which ship are you catching? Hmm, good question! I do know that it is with Royal Caribbean but I have no idea which ship!
A little after dinner exercise.
Nothing like a little bit of sibling rivalry! I won of course. haha See, just a good example of me not paying attention...
We went to bed pretty late last night. So of course we have had a pretty lazy morning. In fact, Laura is still sleeping! Mind you that is not so strange. LOL To give you an example of the excessive eating, we all had a late night snack of sandwiches and pizza at something like 1:30/2AM in the morning. Hence, me not being all that hungry when I woke up this morning. Touch wood that I don't get a tummyache!
Well, it is just past 11AM. You know what that means...almost time for some lunch. 😊 So I will describe the ship and its wonderful amenities and interesting encounters that we have in future blog entries.
Hope all is well wherever you are in the World.
Hugs and stuff,
Bonz
Here’s how our day went…
I spent part of the morning working on those books while Laura and Alice kept on snoozing. There was a small glass coffee table in our room that quickly became my little craft table. Since it was a coffee table sitting on a chair would be too high so being the resourceful person that I am decided to grab a floatation device and sit on that. Surprisingly it made a very comfortable seat!
Hmm, what are some of the things that we did today…EAT!
Lunch was in the dining room today. Laura and I shared a plate of fish and chips and some baby back ribs. Laura actually couldn’t decide what to have so I suggested that we share the two dishes since I didn’t really like the waitress’ advice to Laura. Just order both of them. The portions are not that big. Laura’s response was, “No, I don’t think I can eat it all and don’t want to waste food.” The waitress, “That’s okay, there is a lot of food wastage on this ship.” I couldn’t believe she said that! Anyhoo, I also had a banana caramel split. Yummy!
For dinner we booked ourselves into Portofino’s for a fine dining experience. Now this is just excellent food and service. Laura and Alice have been here before and the last 24+ hours they have been ranting and raving about the goat cheese soufflé. So of course I had to try the goat cheese soufflé on a bed of lettuce for myself and boy were my taste buds in for a treat! It was super delicious and was glad that I was not disappointed since I’d been hearing so many good things about the goat cheese! I also had to try the Caesar salad since Christie said it was the best she’s ever had. Once again, I was not disappointed! For dinner I chose the Atlantic Halibut with spinach and ravioli. Yet again my stomach was happy to accept such yummy food. Then to top off the meal I had the Tiramisu. Mmm, mmm good!
Overall our day was pretty relaxing BUT since we ate so well today we thought we would partake in a bit of exercising and went up to deck 12 to walk a few laps around the ship. A mere 5 laps equals a mile…that’s a pretty easy work out! And can you believe that I was actually able to run a full lap without collapsing a lung! Lol
Oh yes, here’s another example of how Christie has been spoiling us. We hear a knock on our cabin door and it is Marcel our cabin attendant delivering white fluffy cotton bathrobes and hugeass beach towels to bring home as well. To describe the size of these beach towels I would have to say that I could use it as a bedspread on a single sized bed! Yes, that is a hugeass beach towel!!! Oh yes, and we were also given “all you can drink” soda pop privileges with a souvenir drinking mug. I’d better not drink too much pop for fear of diabetic shock and of course the excessive burping. haha
