Saturday, May 31, 2014 Todd was up at 600am, grading papers. Yes I am working on part of the trip. After I finished grading papers, I headed back to our room to make sure everyone was up. We have a tight schedule this morning. Jenny, Marcus, Michael and I wanted to run on the beach this morning. The beach is 1.5 blocks away. Everyone was up to running; Michael decided to work out in the gym. Cindy stayed back in the hotel. So Jenny, Marcus and I walked down towards the beach. I ran ahead and started running. It was super warm and humid this morning, I felt like I was back in Houston in the middle of the summer. For me, it was so enjoyable running on the beach. I was able to keep my ... read more

Friday, May 30, 2014 Our household was up early this morning. Todd was up at 4:00 am, all others 5:30 am. You know me, have to be up early. We are so excited to take our cruise, third one in six months. After doing some last minute organizing at the house and saying our goodbye’s to the dogs, we were off to the airport to catch our flight to DFW at 8:45am. Thank goodness for the HOV lanes, it made the trip to the airport quicker that time of day. We arrived at the Houston airport around 7:45 am and went through security without any major issues. We boarded our American Airlines flight and left on time. We arrived in DFW 15 minutes early. This is great news; however our gate was not available. We ended ... read more

Prologue Prior to December 2012, I was self-employed which meant that I had more time on my hands and usually more money as well, so I qualified easily for status with American Airlines. Earlier this year, I realized that I was not on course to requalify for status. Around that same time, American sent me a 15% off coupon so I decided to make a mileage run. The next decision was – where should I go? I knew I wanted to explore a new place. I was tempted to go to New Orleans, but I found a cheaper fare to San Juan. A quick scan through the Lonely Planet led me to Posada San Francisco, a hostel offering private rooms for $30 in the heart of Old San Juan. With that, the deal was sealed. Saturday, ... read more

Day 6 involved us heading back home to the US. We did not want to leave the lovely beaches and wonderful food. We had a blast and I am sure it will not be the last time we venture to Puerto Rico!... read more

Day 5 was also a relaxation day when we checked into our hotel the Best Western Palms Inn Condado in Condado, PR. It was an amazing hotel that had a view of the ocean from the balcony! We had some pina coladas at the hotel bar and also took a dive in the pool. Later on, we ate at Tijuana's Bar and Grill and the food was delicious. What a perfect way to end our trip in Puerto Rico.... read more

Day 4 was just a relaxation day at the beach by our hotel, the Acacia. We did get to swim at the sister hotel down the street called At Wind Chimes Inn. We went to Condado Beach first and the waves were quite rough so we stayed close to shore. After the beach, we hit the pool and stayed down there for a good while. We met a nice couple from Chicago and we conversed with them. Afterwards we went to Bebo's Cafe again and had roasted chicken and rice and beans. It was delicious! Another great day in Puerto Rico.... read more

Woke up to rain but we still decided to head out to the horseshoe beach Mar Chiquita in Manati. We hoped that the rain would subside but it did not. We had a rough time finding our way to the freeway since the signage is horrible. Be cautious of this. We even accidentally went down a one way street! Once we got on the freeway (Highway 2) we discovered that although it is a tollway, the freeways have large potholes in it! How crazy is that? Once we finally found Mar Chiquita, it was beautiful! It is a little cove surrounded by eolanite rocks (limestone) and that day it had some serious waves due to the rain. They have kiosks that serve food that is open on the weekends. Unfortunately, we were not able to swim ... read more

We took an early flight and arrived at around 2:30pm. While we flying over Puerto Rico, we saw beautiful turquoise waters, boats, and islands. We knew we were going to love Puerto Rico. This was our fourth time going and every time we find a new adventure to embark on. The car rental was quite an easy process. The driving was scary! Be prepared to have people stop, pull out, or cut you off in a heartbeat! Once we got our car from Charlie's Car Rental, we went on to get groceries at Pueblo grocery store. They had everything we needed from fruits, to waffles, to rum, we were set with food for breakfast and lunch for the next 5 days. We checked in at the Acacia Boutique Hotel and then headed to Bebo's Cafe for ... read more

Well we all had a great night sleep and Kerry & I got to breakfast on time. Later we headed to see the shopping talk about San Juan where we are visiting today. It is the capital of Puerto Rico. We have no organised tour planned so we will just wander around the old city. The kids finally awoke from their slumber and we headed to have brunch at the Bacchus Restaurant ground floor. They were having the Punchliner’s Brunch where the comedians give a a 5 minute routine on the hour. I had Blueberry Pancake stacks which were delicious. Kerry & I watch a game they call Bean Bag Tossing where you trough a small bean bag (like a beannie bear size) across the Atrium lobby on Deck 2 about 10 metres and try and ... read more

A full service resort located 10-minutes from the International Airport and adjacent to the convention center. While the surrounding area within walking distance doesn’t offer much, it is a convenient 10-minute taxi ride to old San Juan and Condado Beach and 5-minutes from the Panamerican Cruise Terminal. The lobby is chic with lots of ochre- colored marble and soft lighting that changes hues in the evening. A large bar/café extends from the check-in area and serves as an entry way into the casino. Check-in is efficient, except on cruise departure days, when large numbers of cruise passengers checking in and out at the same time, seem to overwhelm the housekeeping staff. This was what happened in our case, when we had to wait 2 hours past the 3:00 PM check-in time to get our deluxe king room ... read more
