What can we cook in Puerto Rico?

We are renting a house near San Juan, PR, for a week in Dec. & hope to cook for ourselves sometimes. Can anyone suggest things to bring from home (that will fit in our luggage) to make easy meals and/or what types of groceries/fresh produce & meats are available that are safe to eat. Thanks!
