The man whose proper job it is to assist us in finding our lost luggage is attempting to book us into a hotel. I’ve never lost any luggage at an airport before, never had somebody else find me a hotel and I’ve never travelled to a place where the cheapest room you‘ll be lucky to find starts at $100+tax. It’s nearly midnight and most places are fully booked, yet our broker remains jovial. He’s almost apologetic when he lists the reasons Puerto Rico is so damned expensive nowadays… I admire his honesty; he’s a genuinely nice guy in a job where [View Full Entry]

We spent one week on the Condado district of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and really enjoyed it. There are really no surprises when going to Puerto Rico, as in culture. Everything that on the mainland of the US is also in Puerto Rico, plus. You name it, it's in Puerto Rico, from Chili's Restaurants, Chicago Uno Pizzeria, casinos huge shopping malls, Wal-Mart, Target, Barnes and Noble. It's all there. In the Condado district it is quite safe to walk around pretty much at any hour of the day or night. There are major resort hotels right on the beach, such as [View Full Entry]

Notice how there is no escaping the ship? Even from inside the fort, that funnel is spotted.
Today was the first Sunday/home port day where I didn’t work for the shopping specialists in the afternoon. Because of the Super Bowl, our entire schedule has been switched around. We’re not even doing a boat drill today; we’re doing it tomorrow afternoon instead. Don’t mess with the sports fans I guess. It meant that the shopping & port seminar was cancelled, so I had nothing to promote. And, I had a full day to myself in San Juan! I convinced Logan to go out with me again and we visited both of the fortresses in Old San Juan - El [View Full Entry]

Looking Out To The Streets of Old San Juan
Looking East Towards the New City
Around San Cristobal

After Logan and I visited the forts in Old San Juan today, we walked along the path that follows along beside the city’s walls and the water of the bay. Passed through the San Juan Gate - the symbolic entrance to the city where ships once docked and people passed through when they arrived. More beautiful buildings and quaint little streets - the side of San Juan I adore. Bought some homemade sweets from a market vendor. And then we got back to the ship - completely exhausted, but as Lolo put it “historized”. [View Full Entry]

Isla del Encanto - Island of the charm indeed! Turquoise oceans, white sand, balmy weather , lush green rainforests, charming 16th century architecture, tucked away islands, fun-loving people , exquisite cuisine , cultural cocktail, salsa and jazz - incredible as it sounds , Puerto Rico is a heady mix of all this and more. Hard as it is to conjure in the sub-freezing climes of Boston, the thought of our week-long annual holiday, to be spent in the Caribbean, toasted us during the Christmas and New Year Holidays. The year turned a corner, and we headed off to Puerto Rico [View Full Entry]

Sunday, so it's home port day. I slept and slept and slept so much last night. Recovering from the long overnight still and just generally catching up on lost rest. It's a frequent hazard of ship life. While the guests embark the ship, I work for Quentin, the shopping specialist, doing promotions. But we pushed my hours head a bit today to try to catch more of the crowd, which worked well. But it also meant that I was able to be off the ship well before sunset for the first time in San Juan. I am still so in love [View Full Entry]

I'm officially back on the ship and could not be happier to be here. Amazing how only a little more than a week ago I felt so uncertain about being here, yet today, coming back was as good as coming home after travelling. I know I am really delayed in posting this, but yes, there is an address for everyone asking. Here's how to reach me. The mailing address is: Carnival Destiny Jeanette Hedley #403242 Entertainment / Club O2 360 San Francisco Street (Suite DE) San Juan, Puerto Rico, 00901 USA And to call, it's 1 877 225 7447 and then [View Full Entry]

After 5 consecutive days where we were exploring a new port every day, today was our only day at sea. We spent much of the day exploring the parts of the ship that we had yet to explore as well as spending way too much time at the buffet. In between the ship exploration and buffet stops, we were just lounging by the pool and relaxing. Today was the only day during the duration of the cruise where we had sun the entire day. This brought everybody out to the pool. Today we finally found the elusive rock climbing wall [View Full Entry]

Left last night from Rio de Janeiro, arrived mid-day in San Juan to get started on our SeaDream adventure, starting with 4 days in San Juan to get travel-ready (i.e., starting to eat and drink too much, and getting being lazy, and not being guilty about it) soo we could hit the boat primed for our high seas adventures. According to the weather reports, Monday is to be our rainiest day in PR. We figure that if it is going to rain all day anyway, we might as well head to the rainforest! Our resort is literally right across the main highway from the El Yunque Rainforest, the only rainforest in the US National Parks system. We follow a very long and steep road that winds all the way up the mountain. We once again follow the advice in our Frommer’s Guide and decide to hike their favorite trail which is estimated to be a 2 hour hike. The trail [View Full Entry]
