According to the weather reports, Monday is to be our rainiest day in PR. We figure that if it is going to rain all day anyway, we might as well head to the rainforest! Our resort is literally right across the main highway from the El Yunque Rainforest, the only rainforest in the US National Parks system. We follow a very long and steep road that winds all the way up the mountain. We once again follow the advice in our Frommer’s Guide and decide to hike their favorite trail which is estimated to be a 2 hour hike. The trail [View Full Entry]

Shea and I left a cold and rainy Los Angeles today bound for the sunny Caribbean. For the past few weeks, visions of sipping pina coladas under a palm tree with calypso music playing in the background had been dancing in our heads. We arrived at LAX with plenty enough time to spare. We were well aware of how long it can take to get through the check-in process with American Airlines. Our first flight was a red-eye flight into Fort Lauderdale, FL landing at 5:00am. From there, we had a flight at 6:40am for the 2 1/2 hour flight [View Full Entry]

Our plane lands in San Juan at 3:30pm on Saturday, December 8th. The past few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind, and in hindsight, scheduling a vacation two weeks before Christmas probably wasn’t the best idea I’ve ever had. But we’re here now. The sun is shining, and I couldn’t be more excited for the week that lies ahead. It is Rylee and Paige’s first vacation abroad, and while Puerto Rico is technically part of the US, there isn’t a whole lot about this place that feels familiar. One of my favorite things about traveling is the opportunity to exper [View Full Entry]

Sunday is our Debarkation/Embarkation day, so we’re in our home port of San Juan. Ashley signed off today so I’m officially running Club O2 now. Today (and most of this week) is busy for me just getting things organized and ready for my program. I’m also doing some extra work with the “Super Shopper” (Destination Shopping Specialist) for some extra money. So I didn’t have a lot of free time today, but I still got off the ship for a couple hours. And I love San Juan! I did some practical taking care of myself stuff, looking in and out of [View Full Entry]

I spent the last three days going around Puerto Rico. Small advise, rent a car...for two reasons... first it's obviously easier to go around, second, the radio waves are great. Love all the quality latino music....I really had a great time going around. My aim was to play golf with great weather....this is exactly what happened. Play five rounds in 3 days, at El Conquistador, Rio Mare and Dorado Beach. They are all designed by great names such as Hills, Norman, Fazio and Trent Jones. And indeed, these were pretty amazing golf courses at a very reasonable price...specially for 36 hol [View Full Entry]

In April of this year (2007) we spent one-week in Condado area of San Juan. It was a great vacation. There is plenty to do in the Condado area. The beaches are very clean, with plenty around them. Meaning that there are bars, cafes, restaurants, shopping. There are a vast number of hotels to choose from in the Condado area. There are several major chains with casinos, such as Marriott, Radisson, the Condado Plaza, and the Diamond Palace Hotel all of which have casinos. The Condado area is very safe, there are police around on motorcycles round the clock; therefore, walking [View Full Entry]

The title of the blog, "El Sabor que Nos Mueva" or "The flavor that moves us" is the slogan for the local beer, Medalla, of which I've only had one since I arrived despite the fact that I mention it so frequently. I've never known ANY beer to move someone to do anything admirable, much less a watered down light beer. "El Sabor que Nos Mueva Hacer Nada". I will call this blog, "el blog que nos mueva"...jajaja. Someone posted a comment inquiring about my ULSM (Upper Lip Sweat Mustache for the uninitiated). It is doing well, lends an air of [View Full Entry]

Yesterday I went to Pinones (Spanish for 'pinenuts') with two nice ladies, Julie and Laurie. We took lunch, beach chairs, and some of us took sunscreen while some of us (yo) did not. Julie is a little fanatical about the sunscreen, she brought roughly 4 different bottles with her, and did attack me with it at one point, so I thought I was safe. Oh no. Imagine the color of your big toe, inflamed with an ingrown nail.....that is the color of my legs. Sheesh. We found a relatively quiet inlet at the ocean where there was water for wading, and [View Full Entry]

Hola todos...I know, not a whole of blog posting. Something about the format of this site doesn't inspire me. I don't know...I think it was the travelblog's rules about not using foul language. Totally stifling. Its also very depressing to not have photos to share. SOMEONE (Peter A. Fones I) was a little delinquent in sending the USB link for the camera. No worries, lots of photos of cockfighting, drug-related homicides, domestic disturbances and garbage on the beach to come. No, no, estoy jugando, I'm joking. Things are going very well here, I've been venturing out on public transport [View Full Entry]

Lots of small victories, that's how I like to think about travelling. I finally figured out how to open the front gate smoothly (its one of three gates that I have to unlock, with different keys) to leave the house. And I figured out when to go to the beach (between 9 and 11am) to avoid my skin melting off. And I'm about 2 for 3 when it comes to understanding what in God's name people are saying to me. And I'm shooting myself for not bringing the cable to connect the camera to the computer. Otherwise you could see lots [View Full Entry]
