I have a passion for traveling and have logged a lot of miles to all seven continents. I am fascinated by the people I meet and their culture. I have used several forms of transportation on my journeys over the years and find that each one brings it own rewards.

I escort a lot of groups known as Adventures With Toni Tours, in addition to my personal travel. My blogs cover both types. I hope you enjoy reading about my adventures, as much as I enjoy sharing them.

July 2, 2012 We arrived at the Sofitel Angkor Hotel in Siem Reap early in the morning to check-in for our cruise. AMA staff had tables set up in the courtyard area and orchestrated the check-in process with ease. After collecting our tickets, we were given colored bag tags to place on our luggage. This color indicated which bus we would board for our ride to the ship. We had to wait about an hour for the buses to arrive, so I took the time to walk around the hotel grounds. Beautiful tropical landscaping with Khmer influence graced the property including the free form pool area. The lobby was elegant and provided lots of comfy seating areas in air-conditioned comfort. Several of us also enjoyed window shopping in the hotel’s gift shop. When our transport arrived, ... read more

When I tell people I am traveling to Siem Reap, it is usually met with questions of where is that and why are you going there? I answer that it is in Cambodia and home to one of the best preserved temple complexes dating back to the 12th century including Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom; the one featured in Angelina Jolie’s movie Tomb Raider. That usually brings a glimmer of recognition to people’s faces. I tell them the main reason this is my third trip there in six years is that Siem Reap is brought to life by some of the most humble, resilient people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I try to explain the recent history of genocide by the Khmer Rouge and how the tenacity of the Cambodian people have helped ... read more

The brand new boutique Best Western Blois Chateau is centrally located in the Loire Valley and serves as an excellent base for exploring the area’s castles and chateaux. It is located just over 2 hours from Paris on the motorway, but can be tricky to find upon arrival in Blois. The address does not yet exist in most GPS units and will try to send you to the Blois Castle in the center of town. Just follow the street signs pointing uphill in the direction of the main train station and you will find the hotel across the street. A tiny reception area greets you and a handicapped elevator lifts you to your room. It moves very slowly, but has more than enough room for 2 people and 2 suitcases which is a rarity in a ... read more

If you’re looking for a good quality mid-priced hotel in the theater district of Paris (2nd), give strong consideration to Les Theatres. It may not look like much from the outside, but inside you’ll find a freshly renovated hotel with new furnishings and fixtures. The lobby/check-in area is tiny and staffed with efficient personnel, most of whom speak fluent English. A small elevator lifts you to the rooms above. We booked a Queen Bed Superior (Larger) Room which was slightly larger than a standard inside cruise ship stateroom. The bed was extremely comfortable with a pillow top mattress and high thread count linens. It had a 35 inch flat screen TV which was a bit too large for the room size. It was fastened to the wall on a swivel which made it stick out far ... read more

A full service resort located 10-minutes from the International Airport and adjacent to the convention center. While the surrounding area within walking distance doesn’t offer much, it is a convenient 10-minute taxi ride to old San Juan and Condado Beach and 5-minutes from the Panamerican Cruise Terminal. The lobby is chic with lots of ochre- colored marble and soft lighting that changes hues in the evening. A large bar/café extends from the check-in area and serves as an entry way into the casino. Check-in is efficient, except on cruise departure days, when large numbers of cruise passengers checking in and out at the same time, seem to overwhelm the housekeeping staff. This was what happened in our case, when we had to wait 2 hours past the 3:00 PM check-in time to get our deluxe king room ... read more

One of the best kept secrets in New England is the Equinox Resort and Spa located in Manchester Village in Southern Vermont. The resort has a long history dating back to 1769. The original building on site was the Marsh Tavern which is still part of the existing building complex. The Council of Safety headed up by Ethan Allen’s brother met here to raise money for the “Green Mountain Boys” during the American Revolution. It has also hosted four presidents and Mary Todd Lincoln as some of its prestigious guests. The property has changed hands several times over the last two hundred plus years and is now part of the illustrious Starwood Luxury Collection managed by HEI Properties. A major renovation of the property was just completed in November 2011 and the results are spectacular. I ... read more

The new Berlin rail station was very organized with excellent signage. We easily found our train and seat reservations and enjoyed the 2nd class comfortable seats for the 4 ½ hour train ride to Prague. The train also had a nice dining car where we enjoyed cold Czech beer and a goulashsuppe. We arrived at the Prague rail station but couldn’t find our driver from AVE Hotels who was supposed to be waiting for us on the arrival platform. He was nowhere to be found, so we proceeded to the arrivals area. Still no sign of our driver, so I ended up negotiating for 2 taxis to take the 6 of us from the rail station to the hotel. We definitely got ripped off paying $25.00 USD per car for a 7 minute ride to the ... read more

Our trip started with a Lufthansa flight on the new A380 airbus from JFK to Frankfurt. It was operated with German efficiency and was an enjoyable and comfortable 6 hr. 30 min. flight. We disembarked quickly and excellent signage led us through the airport on foot through immigration and on to our connecting flight to Berlin. We were greeted with complimentary coffee, latte or cappuccino at the gate while waiting to board our flight. The A300 Airbus was also brand new and whisked us to Berlin in 50 minutes flying time. Berlin TXL airport was one of the most user friendly airports I have ever been to. The plane disembarks directly into the baggage claim area for your flight and the luggage was quickly dispatched within 5 minutes of landing. We exited into the arrivals area ... read more
