Saturday, March 3, 2007 We woke up Saturday morning at a fairly decent hour, had yet another wonderful breakfast and then packed up our stuff, took some pictures on the hammock, and head off to catch the bus back to Comayagua. Catching the bus at the main road was easy! They saw us coming down to the road and even pulled over and waited for us, without us even flagging them down! We did have to wait for about half an hour once in Peña Blanca though. They stuff those buses nice and full! After 2 more buses, and standing for a little while until seats were available, we arrived back in Comayagua. We took a taxi to my house, unpacked from the lake trip, repacked for one night at the hotel in town, and ... read more

Well, it happened, the day came that I had to finally jump into those dreaded 30's and I am happy to report that nothing horrible happened!! My 11th and 8th graders each got me a cack and we celebrated in class, it was a nice break. After school I celebrated with the entire compound, a rare thing to do these days with dinner at a new Mexican resteruant. It was nice to have everyone around. Talked to the folks, Brad and then Denise and got a lovely, surprizing email from Fred. After dinner we all went to Morgan's for more drinks. Got rather drunk and did a little bar dancing. All in all a perfect way to celebrate my birthday. And I didn't cry once! I think I'm gonna like 30. Friday I recoved and ... read more

Tuesday, February 27, 2007 I went to school at the regular time and my family came during recess. My students were all SO excited to have my family in the class. Their behaviour was probably the best I have ever seen it. We started with a show and tell period with my family. They sat in chairs at the front and the kids were all around them in a circle. My parents brought newspaper clipping of snow, as well as pictures of them shovelling the driveway at our house. The kids were so interested in the snow. The students also asked a lot of questions about what my family did in Canada (jobs), and how many layers of clothing we need to wear in the winter. It was so cute. My family loved it too. My ... read more

Monday, February 26, 2007 I spent a good 5.5 hours at the school the day before my family was scheduled to arrive. I wanted to be sure I had all my booklets ready and organized for my students for the days I would be away, plus had a lot of marking to do, as well as half-partial reports that were due before I left. Monday arrived and I head to school. I saw Mauricio (admin of school) and asked who would be picking up my parents today. He looked confused. I said my parents were coming in today and Cesar had said someone would pick them up. He said to talk to Cesar. I later found Cesar (director) and Mauricio in Cesar's office and asked again. Cesar hit his head in a "oops, I forgot" kind ... read more

Well, it's been awhile. And the events I am writing about took place sometime ago, but oh well. There's a bunch of us, who, after introducing Hondurans to the lovely game of poker, have enjoyed taking there money every Monday nite (we never said we taught them well, Ja ja.) We meet at Morgans and usually put buy about $L200 in chips and see where we go from there. It is great fun and something to look forward to with the start of the week. We decided it was time to have a tournament, after we became so professional with real chips and even a really nice table top. So one Sunday we all met at Morgs and had the first anual (and probably only, but who cares) Honduran Poker tournament. It was a good time. ... read more

Hello everyone, Just to let you all know I am now safely in Honduras. The floghts were all pretty cushty, and I stayed at a motel last night, had a bath, watched Xmen 2 and relaxed- which was fantastic. I met up with loads of people who are doing various courses with i-to-i, all of whom seem really nice. We all arrived in Teg, the capital, at 12 then we met up with more volunteers and got met by elisa, contact, who took us all for lunch at her families restauarant, which was a vast improvement on the plane food. Now we´re all staying at a hotel for a night - going off to our places tomorrow. Having some drinks and generally a really good time! So so far so good.... Miss you all, and thankyou ... read more

Les bus étaient ... read more

Pictures from the Jungle... I wrote this poem the day I was hiking all through the jungle. I stopped at an overlook and pondered the hills. Hope you enjoy. The Jungle Within Sitting top a mountain overlooking the jungle I have just enough food and water, living humble soon I´m off again to bushwack thru the brush seeing all the lush plants gives me such a rush we all cultivate a garden within ourselves and my walk through the rainforest is like venturing thru myself It´s wild inside me, overgrown, chaotic holding species rare, varied, exotic with the disorganization comes so many surprises strange animals find their place to hide in you may catch a glimpse but more likely no just look on in awe at the way things grow walking this jungle, I´m endlessly amused ... read more

Here are some pics, let them tell the stories for now, since I´ve been lacking pics for so long, now I´m overcompensating for it. Here are a few poems. This first one, I wrote in the first class at Zamorano that I went to. As usual, not paying attention. What is progress? Nobody knows. Passing forward, but where do we go? Studying so hard, back in school again, spending the day ¨learning¨among some friends I don´t pay much attention--I´m writing poems flourescent lights but sun outside--I feel right at home man this is too perfect as everything is sometimes don´t know why it happens but that´s why I write rhymes so I can share my feelings with all of the world the beauty of a life that shines a pearl you know what´s so great? Hi all I have just been reading about the bad storms in the UK. Hope you're all wrapped up with a mug of cocoa. I'll try not to mention the weather here in this blog. As you know if you've read the last blog, it was time for me to get moving through central America towards Panama. I opted to catch the Friday boat from Placencia to Puerto Cortes in Honduras. Around 25 passengers nestled into the small boat and, after an hour waiting for Belizean immigration to give us exit stamps in our passports, we were off. As usual, I got talking to people on board and was amused to discover that some of the Honduran members of the crew had just been released from a 30 day stretch in Belize City jail for the ... read more
