Costa Rica 2013: Day 13: Manuel Antonio Day 3: This morning is the Spices Tour we signed up for last night. We were up and ready long before the minivan arrived at 8:50 to take us to the farm. I don't think I mentioned that we were a bit hesitant about taking this tour, due to the cost of $50 each, but it sounded very interesting, and Manoli wasn't all that excited about the other tours available, so we went for it. When they picked us up, there was already a young couple in the minivan, going on the tour with us. We traveled quite a ways out of town to their farm, Villa Vainilla. It is a well-known, recognized biodersity operation with a lot of write-ups expounding on it's virtues. They are a major producer ... read more

Costa Rica 2013: Day 12: Manuel Antonio Day 2: This morning we were headed to Manuel Antonio National Park, hopefully to at least see monkeys and a sloth or two. After a cup of coffee made in our suite, we walked down the road to the park entrance. We had to stand in line a few minutes to buy our entry tickets, at $10 each, hoping it would be worth it. They gave us a map and explained the parts that were closed to the public, then off we went. At first, we sort of trailed along with one or another guided group, not to hear what they were saying, but to see what they found interesting. Many times we couldn't see what they saw because the guides had fancy telescopes set up, but we did ... read more

Costa Rica 2013: Day 11: Playas del Coco to Manuel Antonio: We were ready to leave our room at Laura's House by 6am, but unfortunately the lady who had been in the cafe the morning before wasn't there, so no coffee. We made our way to the bus stop in Playas del Coco to catch the 6:30am bus to Liberia and arrived with time to spare. The "bus stop" is just a place on the side of the road where the Pulmiton busses stop. When we arrived in Liberia, it was just past 7:30am, so we walked the block or so to the bus station for Puntarensas, and lo and behold, the 7:30 bus to Puntarenas was just leaving, so we hopped on, already an hour ahead of schedule, as I'd planned on catching the 8:30 ... read more

Hello! Long time, no talk. This week was my first week of classes! Well lets just say i didn't get much out of my classes and by that I mean I didn't really know what was going on in my three classes with fast talking Costa Rican teachers, confusing syllabus, and other costa rican students. Let me paint you a picture... I meet my friend Brandon to walk to our first tico class, we get there kind of late so we have to sit on the front row.. awesome. There are like six other US students from my group in the class too but the room is mostly full of other Costa Rican students. The professor finally arrives and says that there is too many people here and goes back to get the role to see ... read more

So I am back n manuel antonio. well atleast I was I am heading to Uvita and Dominical today. But yesterday I was up at about 8 to head down to the national park and look around it forest. Loaded with my Murse(man purse) a towel and of course the heavy duty bug spray, which subsitutes as deoderant down here. Nothing like the aluring oder of some 50%deet to bring those crowds in. Either way I catch the bus to the beach shell out my 240 colones and ride out. Once at the main beach you take the first left to head toward the park entrance...if you can figure out which left it is follow the big signs that say NATIONAL PARK, should be a no brainer. Its about a mile down the road to the ... read more

Today was simply put a much needed blissful day..I cant describe the serinity that I felt today wandering by myself. Before I get into that thoughts have been running through and through. Ive found some of the views that I have long lost. I remember who I was and what drove me, aside from my chaotic ways, and FTW mentality. I want to come back to this country again. But the next time I come back I want to be able to communicate with the locals more then buenos diaz como estas and not be able to carry on from there. I want to be more then the gringo that is bringing them the little bit of money that I have, although helpful to them, not satisfying to me. I want to be that guy when ... read more

So I got into San Jose last night aftwe getting lost on the damn bus. I booked my bungee jump this morning. Got picked up @ around 750am...the dude drove me to another town where we reached the old colorado bridge. it is about 300 to 280 feet tall, you got about a 200 ft free fall before the rope snaps back on you. Well I get there and I am the only on there. The guy said that it was to early for the crowd. But he lead me out to the bridge and started to strap me up. there was a small waist harness and then these two heavy duty anklestraps which is where my bungee was attached to. The waist harness was attached to the ankles, as a back up incase the ankles ... read more

Day 4 Well I was woken up temprano por la maƱana by a tormenta. The sun was up but the clouds over looking the ocean were negro. I ventured out of my dorm room and into the commons area where we sat and drank cafe y leche watching the storm pass. Anthony and me discussed what our plans were. The mangrove tour was canceled so we got directions from martha, our host, and headed out of town toward a waterfall. Taking a left out of vista serrena we walked down a hill only matched by ludviks castles in germany, except with crazy ass drivers going up and down it. walking single file in our shorts, no shirts, and flipflops we reached the gravel road we were suppose to walk down. Houses were tucked in the trees, ... read more

Buenos Noches...My name is Terrance Bradley Merrell and about 3 months ago I decided that pensacola Florida was getting to me and booked a flight to what I now know as my escape. Simply put I never expected what I have seen in the 3 days that I have been here. Day 1 I arrived in San Jose, CR..really alajuela but close enough. I was greeted by my shuttle I arranged to take me to hostel Pangea(crazy place). On the way there I feared for my life as the driver wizzed in and out of cars, pedestrians and motocicletas on a what is suppose to be a 1 lane road turned into 2 lanes. Not to mention windy, bumby and in desperate need of some TLC. After arriving there we were let into this gate that ... read more
