Hola todos y todas! This is my last entry that follows my semester abroad in Costa Rica so try not to be too upset that this blog FINALLY has come to an end. And thank you for reading! Anyways so i'm leaving in three days! wow. It’s really weird because while it feels like I got here just yesterday, I can't remember at what point I became so comfortable here that’s its going to be really hard to leave. And while it feels great to be done with the semester of schooling with all the exams and final projects over, I'm really going to miss the traveling and the great things about being here. I love how most people always seem to be happy and how a greeting isn't hard to come by. I love all ... read more

Hola! Its raining now (rains almost every afternoon nowadays) and my pitiful little dog is hiding under the bed and shivering... so I thought I'd jot down a couple of experiences down cause lets just be honest, mostly out of guilt because I know people are just dying of withdraw by now :) By the way, if you have stuck with me this long 1) congrats and 2) I really do appreciate you reading, even if I don't know it! So what have I been up to the past couple of weeks? Well today marks the one month left point and maybe its the rain, but i'm feeling kinda down about it. Yes i'm super excited to see friends and family again, but I'm feelng also like its gonna be a hard adjustment coming home. What ... read more

Just got back from my week long Semana Santa trip and it was pretty awesome, probably one of the coolest trips yet. SO i sure your wondering where we went right? We went south... Actually the village ( because it was tiny tiny) is called Altamira and its about an hour north of the Panama border in the Puntarenas province. Eight of us got hooked up through our ISEP coordinator to this organization called ASOPROLA, located just outside of the Nacional Parque La Amistad (largest national park in Costa Rica which stretches into Panama). So its this really awesome group that has started to cultivate the land organically and makes several organic products such as coffee, marmalade, and shampoo. So it was really great because we got to go down there, stay in their cabins for ... read more

Not really but it applies, just wait :) Hola to all! I'm really over this project I have been doing all day so I thought it might be good to record some thoughts and experiences. While I'm a little past the half way point of this study abroad, I feel like i have been here forever and at the same time, time has flown. And it really has. Its still a strange thing having so much time to myself, so much time to think. Just me and my dog all day. I guess i kind of miss the hustle and bustle of a normal semester, but why should i? My tica mama asked me the other day if I was sad that it was just us three living in the house ( because all her children ... read more

Hola! Back again and It has officially been two months! Ehh makes me nervous cause I still fill like i have alot of goals left to accomplish.. como 1) master Spanish (not even close) 2) make ALOT of tico friends which is actually i alot harder than I thought it was going to be. Was it stupid to assume that because I am an exchange student that people were going to just automatically want to be my friend? Silly girl.. All i have to say is that I'm going to be super super nice to any and all exchange students when I get back home. Okay its not like anyone here is mean (well there have been a few "interesting" incidents) but not too many are just super friendly. I have starting going to this English ... read more

These past few weeks have really flown by! Can you believe its been almost 7 weeks?? Like next next saturday, it will have been 2 months! Ahh i don't wanna think about it because I know i'm not gonna wanna leave! I mean lets be honest there are alot of things that wear on me now (like having to take a taxi everywhere ) and i ALOT of things I miss about the US (like getting water for free eveywhere you go) but i living here is so fun and my spanish is getting better poco a poco, ... read more

hi! I know i have left you in suspense but here is why... This week i learned kind of how I need to handle mysef when my internet stops working, which is one of my computers favorite passtimes. I don't know why i feel so helpless without it but then after two days of it not working, it magically comes back on, I thank God, and my mood skyrockets. More of those to come, I'm sure. School this week was a lot more of the same, I have a project due in a couple of weeks! The group, which for now is settling in to be eight of us from ISEP, traveled to La Fortuna this weekend which is a little, but not surprisingly touristy town that sits as close as it dares to the active ... read more

Ah low! So i have officially been in Costa Rica for three weeks now. SO how am I feeling? Pretty good, i think the dreaded "culture shock" is supposed to be hitting me soon but I'm thinkin about just ducking and trying to miss the whole thing. Maybe it only gets some and not others. I mean is it even real? I don't know, maybe after another week i will have been here a month and by then ( or at leats thats what everyone keeps saying) my spanish is supposed to be alot better or i'm supposed to be understanding alot more or some such and then when I find out I still don't understand and can't speak well, I'll have the "shock". But i'll just keep you posted k? Nothing too interesting happened this ... read more

Hello! Long time, no talk. This week was my first week of classes! Well lets just say i didn't get much out of my classes and by that I mean I didn't really know what was going on in my three classes with fast talking Costa Rican teachers, confusing syllabus, and other costa rican students. Let me paint you a picture... I meet my friend Brandon to walk to our first tico class, we get there kind of late so we have to sit on the front row.. awesome. There are like six other US students from my group in the class too but the room is mostly full of other Costa Rican students. The professor finally arrives and says that there is too many people here and goes back to get the role to see ... read more

Hello! Its been a couple of days but I haven't been avoiding you for no reason! This past week, my group went to Sarapiqui which is a city in the northern more Caribean side of the province Heredia. The trip was about two or two and half hours and we ended up at Selva Verde (Green Forest) Lodge. But wait, before we got there we went on this tour of a pineapple farm which grows really well in that area because of the climate. I would never have thought it was would be very interesting to be honest but it was actually really cool and so beautiful! These people contorl the growth of the oineapple with this speacial gas but its all natural and organic. UM and it is the best pineapple i have ever tasted!! ... read more
