Verhuizen en zo Ja, inderdaad. We zijn weer eens verhuisd…..ons appartement bleek uiteindelijk toch wel klein en Shasta kon zijn ei niet echt kwijt. We zijn op de fiets gestapt en zijn aan het rondkijken en vragen gegaan en uiteindelijk hebben we ons Uptown huis gevonden. We wonen nu in een klein winkelcentrum aan de rand van het dorp en daardoor lekker rustig. Beneden ons zitten een aantal kleding winkels, een makelaar, video verhuur, bakkerij die veel te lekker ruikt iedere dag, een autoverhuurbedrijf en een kleine soda die heerlijke lunches verstrekt. En de rest zit allemaal om de hoek: bank, restaurants, massage school (prima massages en ik spreek uit ervaring !) winkels, supermarkt enz. Living in Playa Samara We have iguana’s living on our roof, between our wooden ceiling and the tin roof. One morning we both thought that the other farted….but….it was something else (of course). It was the sound of liquid dripping down from the ceiling on the floor next to our bed….we thought it was iguana pee because we heard one crawling over the ceiling…..it turned out to be water, fortunately ! Also monkeys come and go, we watch squirrels jumping from tree to tree. In the morning, even before sunrise we hear: monkeys howling, birds singing, goose squeeking, dogs barking and at last the rooster is awake too and starts his cock-a-doodle-doo. Four days after arriving in Playa Samara and moving into the house of our new Tica familia, our Tica mom bought four geese. After what they did to one of the pigs, I feared the worst. Alisa and I woke one morning to find the pig’s back legs splayed apart and tied to the roof of a lean-to on the beach; it was hanging upside down. Its innards had been cut out and removed, and my Tico brothers were trimming off the skin and making fresh chicarrones in a pot on a happy fire. The severed head stared at us from the sink. After that, our dinners were open to all kinds of speculation. Ons Penthouse in Playa Samara Wat maakt een penthouse een penthouse ? Een penthouse is het hoogst gelegen appartement met een eigen ingang, ja ? Okay, we hebben een aparte ingang, een cementen trap met steigerpijp als leuning die uitkomt op onze veranda. Ook ligt ons appartement welgeteld 15 cm hoger dan de rest. We hebben een leuke keuken/eetkamer, een badkamer en een slaapkamer. Niet heel erg groot, maar groot genoeg voor ons. Toen we het appartement gingen bekijken was het behoorlijk leeg en waren alle muren wit. Nu wonen we in een tropisch land, dat vraagt natuurlijk om kleur ! Dus hebben we de muren geel achtig en oranje achtig geverfd. Ook twee kleine houten krukjes zijn in die kleuren geverfd en staan aan weerskanten van ons bed. Well, what a few weeks! The title sums up my feelings of what have been some of the best weeks of my life for many reasons. But just to keep you all in suspense for a little while longer, I'll return to where my last blog finished. After Nicaragua, I had my last week of classes in Heredia and it was a fairly uneventful week with the highlights being two 'Intercambios', where I spent an hour with local Costa Ricans who are learning English and we spent half an hour each speaking in English and Spanish. I was most impressed with myself over how well it went!
