After being in Bergen we took another long haul travel in train to stockholm, it's amazing how you feel the difference between different countries even that they share some culture, arriving to Stockholm station I now felt like in a big city, in Norway you feel a lot more like in a country side, more calm and easy, in stockholm to can feel the city style, more diversity, people in the street at night having fun, less courious with foreigners like us, a little more reserved, and If you're a frequent reader our first activity was looking for our hostel. When we made our reservations we didn't realized that we were actually going to stay at a boat, it was a funny experience since showers and bathrooms were the original ones. Next day we walk around ... read more
So we went to Oslo's train station to the very comfortable Norweigan trains, guys if you have to make a sightseeing train travel this is a must you will never forget (specially if you don't have a lot of snow where you live) from a gorgeous invernal landscape, trees totally covered by snow, almost frozen rivers, mountains covered by snow, the first hour to the most scary winter dessert with no more to see than large extensions of flat snow (not saying it don't worth it) , the one thing that amaze me as a foreigner was people going down the train in the midddle of nothing to practice cross country skii , Wow, suddenly you can see less snow and we arrive to Bergen a nice coast little town, a very nice viking town, if ... read more
Hi guys this second journey to Europe was a little more than a year than the one I've write with last stop on Paris the difference this time is that we have the Euro ,we intend a different intinerary and Kevin another friend from University joined Frank and Me, again (And I still don't know why) we take a trans atlantic with united airlines and again the flight from Dulles to Frankfurt delayed four hours and begin with the burger diet hour 5 bucks voucher to get some value meal at burger king until we board heading to Frankfurt. The flight was very pleasant, thanks Kevin, is fair to say that Kevin's height is mor than 1.90 m so is quite difficult for him this tourist class seats, he began to fell asleep and sudenly I ... read more
As we arrived to Waterloo train station we found a very curious detail, it seems to be a all inclusive package ( this may be curious to non eureopean lectors)to EuroDisney a bunch of kids running with their Mickey mouse hats, with a 20's Music Band just waiting to get on board to EuroDisney (nice example of marketing localisation). So again we take our ride trough the chunnel all the way to Paris the first thing and after many countries we buy our Metro(Tube , Subway) 3 day pass and we head easilly to our hotel, at least to the surrounding area, our hotel was very near louvre and Palais Royal areas, so the landscape was gorgeous exiting the Metro station. Fotunately my french help me out around Paris part of the travel, so asking a ... read more
At this time we were almost locals on train rides, is fair to say that the belgian train was one of the best ones we ride on, and or destination brugge. One of the things you will notice as a rookie traveller is the is very easy to lost in translation, we were very sure of the city where we were heading but with one detail in our mind we have the name of the city in spanish (Brujas) and almost miss the station is common to have the name of the cities in you native language and fogot the the current language in that country is different, but at last we arrived to Brugge, the first thing like in other countries exchange currency (Belgian Francs) just one detail to bear in mind in your travel ... read more
We arrived to brussels nice cosmopolitan city where the base of the EU is modern, nice transport but still don't know the touristic spots, nice cathedral, modern business zone, some very nice gardens. I'm positive that I must be unfair with this city we were very tired and not so willing to made more research on what we can see on it. But why do we that stop, to take the brand new Eurotunnel and go to the UK (almost broken).... read more
So we went to one of the Brussels train station to take our journey to the UK, we get some discount to take the "Chunnel" a very short ride to London and once again change our US Dollars and Belgian Francs to Pounds (QUID same as US Dollars= Bucks) the first shock, what an expensive country, crappy exchange rate but ok the visit worth it. The first thing we get was our Tube (Tube=subway) pass, eventough in Mexico City we have a very big Tube system, the complexity of the London tube can be confuse even to an experienced tube traveller, the stations goes from the most modern stations I've ever seen to a real sewer (but very interesting because it give you the sense of London as a very antique city), we arrived to our ... read more
We took again a night train towards Amsterdam now more used to the mechanic of sleeping on the train, I've sleep like a baby. We arrived to Amsterdam Centraal and decide to spent the night after two countries , one problem ,there was not a blody room on any hotel or hostel so after going to a hostel we've found on our guide the owner sent us to his brother hotel, mmmmm anothe experience for the blog after being walking for almost 2 hours with the backpack and asking for directions every five minutes we arrived to this scary "hotel" ; we arrived to a creepy bar (the reception) then this guy showed our room, a filty crappy room with old beds and a mirror with grafitti on it; but at this part of the travel ... read more
Oh heaven a new man again after my shower on Vienna we headed to the ticket office again to book a bed (same configuration) a head towards Munich,Germany again we adapt (still don't speak a word of german) to the language and we arrived to Munich starving, I had not eat a thing, only a cup of coffee the prior day the change between vienna and Munich was a complete change the train station seem like and airport modern ,neat all the facilities, we arrive very early in the morning luckly there was a mini super just out the station so we get a very good breakfast (ironic) a Milkshake and cupcakes so we began to walk to know the city the firs impression was a very new city very part of the city look new ... read more
We make reservations for a couchetta (bed on the train, after figuring out 10 minutes on the ticket office), just remember we were on a low budget travel so we reserve for the cheapest ones meaning 6 people sleeping on a 3x2 meter cabin what a shocking experience, fortunately by logic we took the superior beds, just to put another element on the story it was summer and a very hot summer, so six people on that cabin felt like hell, the first thing was move you're backpack to your bed, at least on the top were more room, on the cabin we met a very nice english couple, but c'mon the temperature was crazy, suddenly the first shock the driver pass for check the tickets growning some thing in german, only the german couple that ... read more
