Monday 5.7.2010 day 264 Isle del sol We got up at 7:30 and organised our boot trip to the Isle del sol. It cost $B20 ($Aus3) per person for a full day trip. We then grabbed a quick coffee and got on the boat. Once we got on the boat we realised it was not what we were expecting there were about 10 rows of 6, the seats where old school chairs nailed to the wooden floor. Every seat was full and there were about 20 people sitting on the roof of the boat and then the crew of about 3. There were two out board motors and the captain (I do not think he had a boating licence and the boat was not licensed) sat at the back of the boat looking around the side ... read more

We got our coupon transferred to tickets and paid our taxes at another counter and got on what was supposed to be a 2 hour bus trip. It took a bit over 2 hours to get to the Bolivia boarder where there was some ceremony going on with lots of police, soldiers with sub machine and trumpets and officials. It took us about an hour to get out of Peru and into Bolivia. We then only had about another 20 minutes to Copacabana. Copacabana is a fantastic little town on the Lake Titicaca as we did not have a booking we had a walk around and found ... read more

South America » Peru » Puno » Lake Titicaca » Uros Island July 3rd 2010

Saturday 3.7.2010 day 262 Floating islands We got up a 6am and had bfast at the hotel then were picked up for our tour. I think the Peruvians deliberately make all the tourists get up early. There were people from all over the world there were New Zealanders. Swedish, English, American, Spanish and Argentineans. Two of the guys were riding around South America on motorbikes. First we went to the Floating where the Iros people live there about 50 of the islands and the people make the islands then selves and separate them if they do not like their neighbours or join up if they want to be new neighbours. So you can never tell how many islands there are. They still live very traditional lives. They have been floating for centaurs and there are no ... read more

Monday 28.6.2010 day 257 Cuzco and the Sacred Valley We had a very early flight so we got up at 2:30am and got the taxi to the airport at 3am. When our flight was ready to leave they announced that the flight was delayed due to bad weather. Our flight eventually left 2 and half hours late. We had sent an email for a taxi pick up but they said they did not read it till it was too late. So we got a cab back to our hotel and checked in and had some special high altitude tea. As we were feeling a little excursed after our tip. We talked to the travel agent at the hostel and found out the number that we were given by the travel agent in Lima was missing a ... read more

The bfast is included as part of our room rate but the give us a voucher for a nice café and it was very nice. After bfast we organized our stuff to move to a lager room. Then we went to the agent to pay the rest of our trip and pick up our tickets. On the way we saw a old car display in the street. When we went to pay for out tickets the Agent wanted to charge a 10% commission and a very high commission on the tickets making it very high. Also they had a trick calculator so all the calculations ended up more than they should have. So ... read more
