Although I have done some previous travelling, this is my first trip on my own. I've got 8 weeks starting and ending in Bangkok and am hoping to see as much of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam as I can.

Well this is the end. I'm heading home in the morning. These last few weeks in Thailand have been incredible and I wish I had more time to spend here. Since my last entry I started and completed my rescue diver course, spent a night in Ko Samui, a few days diving in Ko Tao, and finally headed back to Bangkok. My rescue diver course was a lot of fun but my instructor was a bit scattered. The worst part of it was that there were TONS of jellyfish everywhere near Railay. I finished the course with probably around 15+ stings!!! (although not all super bad). I did get one really bad sting while walking out for a dive from the beach. Never even saw the thing but felt its tentacles wrap around my ankle and ... read more

My plans have been changing over and over again. I ended up spending an awesome 3 nights on Ko Phi Phi and I loved the place. The girls I met on teh way over were a blast to be with, the island and area is beautiful and the bars are nuts!!! I definitely left more than a little sleep deprived after only 10-12 hours of sleep in 3 nights. But entirely worth the fun of huge rainstorms, dance floors on the beach, cheap buckets and late night bbq chicken. A couple of days ago I left to head to Railay beach near Krabi. Its a completely different vibe here with things being much more relaxing (partially because I have been avoiding human contact beyond what's neccessary) and very small. I love it. I've spent two days ... read more

As usual I feel like in the few days that have passed since my last entry, so much has happened. Friday I spent in Siem Reap with Kia and Toke just relaxing, shopping and eating more amazing ice cream sundaes. Great day! In the morning we left Siem Reap and flew to Kuala Lampur where I stayed for a short stop over on my way to Thailand again (finally). Kuala Lumpur is a very interesting city. On one hand it is so multicultural and all the cultureal and religious clothing you see in the street as well as regular western clothes and some very stylish people too give it an interesting flare (saris, burkas, full skirt and blouse with headscarfs, designer clothes, buddhist monks, etc). But the city feels alot more like a european city with ... read more

We've spent the last two days exploring the Angkor Temples and all i have to say is wow! They are incredible. Words cannot describe them and pictures (especially mine) can't even come close. We started yesterday with seeing Angkor Wat and although it was huge and well restored it actually ended up being one of my least favorite of all the ones we saw. It was too well kept compared to some of the other ones that are falling apart or being taken over by the jungle. After Angkor Wat we went to several sites within the city of Angkor Thom the most memorable (and my favorite of all) was Bayon. Bayon has over 200 stone carved faces looking out in different directions from the temple. It was also a little more delapidated giving it a ... read more

I am now in Cambodia, having left Vietnam Monday morning. I spent my last day in Saigon wandering around aimlessly and taking in a few sights. Unfortunately I haven't been feeling all that good so I didn't head out for a huge day. In the morning we left for Phnom Penh, Cambodia. We arrived around 2 in the afternoon and walked around the city for a while. After a late lunch we were exhausted and decided to relax in our room for a bit but after we all fell asleep, we decided to stay in for the rest of th enight and try to catch up on some of the sleep we've been missing on all those night buses. The next day Toke and I went to see the killing fields and Tuol Sleng (S21) prison. ... read more

I am ripping through Vietnam but thanks to the fantastic night buses I feel like I'm doing a decent job of seeing lots of things. I'm still travelling with the two Danish people from Halong Bay and they've been a lot of fun to travel with. We left Hoi An on Wednesday night on a night bus to Nha Trang. Nha Trang is a beach and party town and it did not disapoint. After all the night buses we've been taking we were pretty worn out and sleep in a lot both mornings we were there. The rest of the time was spent laying on the beach, eating delicious ice cream waffles and fruit (sooo good) and of course, partying (happy hour is everywhere all night). Definitely a good couple of days and I got to ... read more

I'm in Hoi An right now and am loving all the tailors here for custom clothing. I am not exaggerating when I say there are hundreds of tailors EVERYWHERE!!! I've heard that there is estimated to be between 350-500 of them in Hoi An alone. So needless to say, the big thing here is to get some custom made clothing. I'm getting a pair of dress pants, a beautiful silk dress, a long wool winter jacket, a short lighter winter jacket and a skirt for $113!!!! Love it. Hue wasn't terribly exciting but that might have been because its been insanely hot for the last few days (and I'm guessing it will only get worse as I continue to move south). In Hue it was too hot to do much and although I tried to see ... read more

I'm back from Halong Bay and it was phenomenal! The views of the bay are incredible will tons and tons of huge limestone "islands" all over the place. Plus the group I went with has turned out to be a lot of fun and I'll continue on with a couple people for a few days hopefully. Wednesday we hoped on the boat and cruised around the bay for a bit. Eventually we stopped and did some swimming from out huge 3 level junk ship then went kayaking to explore a cave. The first night ended up being a relax evening of just having some drinks and hanging out. In the morning we switched to a smaller boat which took us to a private beach on Cat Ba island. The beach was nice with really rustic grass ... read more

Well, I arrived in Hanoi today after flying with the infamous Laos Airlines (refuses to release their safety records and notorious for bad safety history) and within less than two hours of arriving in the country I had already been ripped off. I was dropped off at a hostel with a sign that said "backpackers hostels" and when I asked if it was the Hanoi Backpackers Hostel they said yes (liars!). They also told me there was dormrooms for $6 when I was still in the car then when I got in the place they only had double rooms (more lies). The room was VERY nice and a reasonable price (bit more than i'd usually pay) but there was no one else staying there from what I could see and the place I had been expecting ... read more

So I haven't written much in the past week but its because I have been having so much fun. Laos is a beautiful country and I've had a great group of people to experience it. Out of the group from the slow boat last week, I've managed to stick with a large group more or less and we've been having a blast. We left Luang Prabang on Saturday morning to head to Vang Vieng. The bus ride although EXTREMELY winding had unbelievable views. The landscape was bright green with early morning fog in some of the valleys and huge mountain peaks everywhere. Beautiful. And the view in Vang Vieng was pretty similar with huge hills and limestone cliffs surrounding the town. That being said, Vang Vieng was nuts!!!! It was a town meant for partying and ... read more
