Today (actually last weekend now), we took the bus from Abu Dhabi to Dubai for the World Golf Championships. It is the last stop of the European Tour for 2010. I have never been to a Pro Championship, so I really enjoyed it. The weather was AMAZING...couldn't have been any better. We arrived at 9:30 a.m. and decided to follow Sergio Garcia and David Horsey for their first nine holes....what a great workout that was...lol. Then after a drink and a bite in the shade we headed to the 18th green to watch them come in. Overall, a very enjoyable day...only 15 drms ($5.) each way for the bus. A very nice comfy coach bus and it only took about 1.5 hours. Definitely going back to actually see Dubai soon! Here are the pics.......until next time! ... read more

Good day mates! I have a few pics to share with you today. First, a few from one of my TWO, American Thanksgiving dinners I was fortunate enough to be invited to, by my American Teacher friends. Then, Claudia and I went out for a relaxing evening last night to the "One-To-One" Hotel outdoor bar and had a very entertaining evening. They have a Christmas Tree up already, but the Tree Lighting ceremony is Dec. 1st....we'll be there for that for sure! We really enjoyed the Sheesha (strawberry), the one man entertainment, AND the people watching...kids in particular...they were so cute (yes, the parents here are allowed to have their children in the bars AND it was 11 p.m. even). Terri and I are going to Dubai at 7 a.m. tomorrow to watch the 3rd round ... read more

...and some pics from the top of the tower at Marina Mall. A couple of smaller adventures I took in my last couple of days off, while exploring on my bike (I actually stumbled across the Heritage Village. I had heard of it but never knew where it was...guess now I do). Well, back to school tomorrow...then to Dubai next weekend for the World Golf Championships. I haven't been to Dubai yet, so I am looking forward to it. Stay tuned for pics. After that, I won't be embarking on any more adventures until the new year (however, I may try the para-sailing during the National Holidays in early Dec.). Although, being at home and around family for the Christmas Break, will have it's own usual elements of adventure .....lol..... I love my family, can't wait!! ... read more

...I am not going to say much here other than, it was a very small group which I think I preferred, since we got to ride the camels TWICE (in the evening AND in the morning). That would not happen with a larger group. There were 10 of us , plus 2 guides (we came in 2 vehicles and only 4 of us, plus our guide, camped overnight). The others only purchased the 1/2 day, to Sundown, package. It was wonderful! I completely loved it and plan to do it again, and again.....so now every one of you have to come visit me so I can go with you....lol. I will let the pictures speak for themselves now. Be warned, there are LOTS of 'em. More than any other entry I have made. I hope you ... read more

Day three of holiday week (Tues.): Taking it easy today. Feeling a bit guilty, so I thought I should tackle some schoolwork to rejuvenate myself for the latter half of the week to come (plus, I gotta brutal sunburn on my face on the water yesterday...forgot to use the 20 UV protection, so staying indoors today). Day one consisted of a 3 hour exploratory bike ride, then to the hotel pool, church, then to the mall for McD's and a movie. "Due Date" with Robert Downey Jr. I am not sure about you, but I find he gets funnier that guy...good movie... if you like silly humour...which I usually don't...must have been my relaxed, non-critical state of mind that night...maybe going to church prior, put me in that place...lol. I also saw "Unstoppable" with Denzel Washington ... read more

I love being a Teacher!!! Off for one week due to the EID Holiday (like Christmas to us). Due to the fact that I was an Occasional teacher in Canada, I have never been paid for holidays, so the words "school holiday" take on a whole new meaning for me here. Not going to say much except to prepare for the pics I have added. They are from the beach music festival last night. Still part of the Yasalam Celebration, gearing up to the Formula One this weekend. Kelly Rowland's, from the USA performed. She was part of Destiny's Child. The concert was FREE on the beach. The second set of pics are from today's "Haj" celebration at school. The children were dressed in cultural clothing and performed a Pilgrimage, in honour of the EID Holiday. ... read more

Good Morning Canada! I went to a Music/Cinema Festival at the Corniche last night. It kinda reminded me of the Sound Of Music Festival in Burlington, only with a Brazilian theme, I think it may have something to do with the Formula One racing that is taking place here this month.....I took a few pics of the Parade for you to enjoy. I also added some pics from a numeracy activity I put together for all the KG2 classes at my school this past week. It was part of our All About Me unit...healthy living/eating week...I hope you enjoy them...it was a lot of fun and went well. Hope everyone is well!! One more week until EID....which means one week off for me.....yipeeeeeeeee!!! "Happy Birthday Adam"....25 years today...WOW! God Bless you and I hope you have ... read more

You know when you getta REALLY good deal on something, and you just HAVE to share the story? Well here goes: I mentioned in a previous blog entry that I was going to buy a bike, right? Well, I shopped around at the Malls and found a couple pretty nice mountain bikes for about $500. CAD (1800 drms). Now, one great thing about living in Abu Dhabi is that there is absolutely no sales tax...notta....NOTHING. Not having to add 15% to everything in your mind, prior to making the purchase, takes some getting used to. Especially when the price of the item(s) you are purchasing is in the hundreds. With that said, I was okay with that price, since I am not paying to rent a car monthly. Well now to the good deal. Last weekend ... read more

Hello again! It is that time of year again when we get to the opportunity to dress-up and become someone (or in my case something) we really wish we were. Kinda like and alter-ego or something....lol. Or rather, simply an opportunity to dress-up and get drunk. I tend to lean toward the ladder of those two justifications. At any rate, it was a fun time. Enjoy the pics and I hope you like my rather 'original' costume. We are starting a lesson on overall Health and healthy eating at school this week, so I am going to wear my costume in the classroom to give the kids a laugh...they'll love the worm for sure!! Hope all is well....Happy Halloween!!! xoxo... read more
