I hate computers!!!!!!!!! After a frustrating hour of trying to get these photos up, Tracy saved the day while I was chatting on the phone...thanks, Tracy! Take a look, we could not have had more fun if we tried. Caroline even got to do archery which she just tried for the first time in PE and is very good at it. Tracy and I both had massages (Thai lady #1) at the spa, doing shiftwork with the kids. After much persuasion, we even did water aerobics where we got into trouble for too much giggling! We thought we were being so creative to sit on chairs in the water...I think Caroline knew that wave was coming when she got out the camera! The little kids were absolute angels, never complaining or asking for anything. Soup and ... read more

We left Cairo at 11am with 2 cars, 2 drivers, 2 shopped out mammas, 1 grumpy teenage girl, 2 naughty little girls, and Trevor. After a nostalgic teary drive through the desert we arrived in El Ain Sukhna on the Red Sea. After the usual confusion at the Stella di Mare check-in, we got a free upgrade thanks to Tracy. The pool and beach were fabulous as usual and we even got "lau sammat" (waiter) to deliver "asir limon" (lemon juice) to our lounge chairs on the beach. Sand castles and strolls...then a shower and off to the mega dinner buffet. The lentil soup was divine as well as the salads...should have stopped there. Just take a look at the dessert table! Too many Egyptian sweets, dripping with syrup. I ATE TOO MUCH!... read more

Today was pretty much ordinary and boring. Sorry to disappoint. For those of you who have been here, the Bedouin Market was our main stop and you know how time consuming that is, not to mention DUSTY! Got your copper coffeepot, Maria, and a copper tray for myself. Tons of cushion covers and scarves. We had lunch at La Rosa, tomato soup this time…yumm. Carol tagged along too. Then a visit to the secret shop for more scarves. Oh we did go to Razmataz after coffee and bought a chandelier to hang over my new table even though the floor model was sold. They could make one for me and deliver on June 19, but with some savvy speaking by Tracy, they will let me take the "sold" one hanging on June 16 to go in ... read more

Another busy day! Our first stop was the fruit and vegie market on Road 9. “Welcome back Madam.” I feel so loved. They are truly talented with the fruit arrangements. Next we stopped at Apache where we met our driver, said “hi” to the girls at Thomas Cook, and I cashed a check at the bank, but not without much effort. “No, Madam, this check does not have your husband’s name on it”. I told him it is OK, I still have money, but he did not believe. Had to get permission from the big boss, Glenn Joyce. Then we went to see Sharif at Antwerpen to pick up my order and he outdid himself once again with some beautiful pieces of jewelry. I was so excited…money can buy happiness! We grabbed a bite to eat ... read more

I am dead tired at the end of this day, mainly because that's how I felt when it started...too much fun and high emotions last night! Tracy, Catherine, Trevor, and I started off with a visit to the Oriental Weavers, a huge carpet showroom on the Ring Road. I thought I had made sucessful purchases until the salesman was scrambling to get a "gift for madam"...must have paid too much or maybe just bought too much! Our adventure continued across the road at Carrefour...the French equivilent of Wal-Mart, but Egyptian style. I had forgotten how overwhelming this place is...too many Egyptians! I will never complain about Wal-Mart again! Then we made a stop at Sirgany on road 9...ordered your cartouche, mom, and earrings for your girls, Bradley and Maria. We went back to the Ellis's and ... read more

Wow, another day FULL of exciting extra-ordinary things. For starters, I went to Tressie’s house where Titi was waiting to pamper me with a manicure and pedicure…yes, I love you too Titi! Then the gals met up for lunch at a new pizza joint where we shared pizzas and gossip. Not to mention the server who was drilling out his nose after putting our pizzas on the table! Tracy gave him a piece of her mind though! Wonder what he was doing before? After lunch Tracy and I went for a massage at this secret place where 2 tiny Korean ladies give AWESOME massages for just $10/hour. No English, no Arabic, sign language only. Thank you, Carol for giving up your appointment for me. More shopping….Found a reasonably priced piece of Egyptian art and I love ... read more

Today was the last day of school at CAC (Cairo American College). I attended the elementary closing ceremony where Catherine and Trevor sat with their old classmates and wished everyone farewell. There were many students and teachers leaving Cairo forever…too many tears and hugs. We took some beautiful photos on the elementary playground under the red flame trees in full bloom. Catherine went to spend another day at Brynn’s house. Caroline went to the Maadi House for a swimming party. Trevor and I went to Tracy’s for lunch. Carol Kochick invited Tracy and I (Trevor tagged along) over for afternoon margaritas on her balcony and boy was it HOT! Carol’s baladi ritas were very refreshing…thanks Carol. I don’t think there was a single topic we didn’t discuss. I LOVE my girlfriends! ... read more

The jet lag has hit me like a ton of bricks! I did not fall asleep until the wee hours of the morning and then couldn't get out of bed. Mothers don't have that luxury though, so up I got to take Trevor to school. All the second grade classes went to the Maadi House (social club for American government and military personnel) for a swim party. Trevor had a blast there! Tracy, Carol, and I went to lunch at La Rosa, our favorite Italian restaurant. As we were leaving the restaurant and admiring the flame tree, we spotted a group of men struggling with car repairs so we decided to give them a hand. After that, we had coffee at Fino Bakery. I did manage to find Caroline on the school campus, but she could ... read more
