Out with the old...in with the new! This Cairo trip is a major turning point in my life. After living there for 6 years as an American expatriate, I have returned after an abrupt departure 7 months ago. You will not see pyramids, temples, or museums...but smiling faces, interesting places, and curious things that were part of my everyday life in Cairo. I will miss everyone and everything dearly, but for myself and my children, we will close this book and start another wonderful chapter of our lives!

We had a wonderful day of wine tasting in the picturesque Barossa Valley. Paul, home now from Brisbane, drove me, Tracy, and Lesley around the countryside. Despite the rainy weather, we managed to visit 6 out of 130 vinyards in the valley. Paul was such a good sport as our DD and photographer. He was excited to have the opportunity to drive his new car as you will see in the photos. We also had cake and coffee in Lyndoch and lunch at Blond Cafe in Anguston. Thank you, Lesley for taking the day off work to be with us and for your research and planning. Thanks Paul and Tracy for another day of fun in the trip of a lifetime!... read more

Tracy and I played golf again on Monday at Belair Park Country Club. Just 20 minutes out of the city of Adelaide and into the hills, this course sits alongside a national park. It is a very peaceful setting full of wildlife. We were hoping to see koalas and kangaroos, but we needed to be there either early morning or late evening. It was still a very nice day except for my game being way off. Tracy's drives were long and straight...way to go Tracy! We stoped for groceries on the way home. Tracy's niece, Danielle brought us a suprise for dinner...Australian yabbies, also known in Lousiana as crawfish! What a treat...thanks Danielle!... read more

Yes there really is a place called Humbug Scrub! Tracy's friend Karen and her husband Rob have a farm there. On Sunday, Tracy and I went for dinner there and made a couple of tourist stops along the way. First we visited the Whispering Wall at the Barossa Resevoir. The unique acoustics of the stone structure of the dam allow you to here someone whisper all the way across the 144 meters to the other side. It really works too, even though neither Tracy nor I know how to whisper! Our "silly" kicked in while taking photos on top. Next we went to Williamstown to try the best vanilla slice in Australia at the Corner Bakery Shop. The girl behind the counter told us they were all sold out, but Tracy worked her magic by telling ... read more

The last couple of days have been a bit more low key. Friday, Tracy took me to a souvenier shop where I bought some "designed in Australia, engineered in China" souveniers, so I may have something for you when I get home or maybe not because I didn't have a list and I can't remember what I bought for whom. I do know that I have not found an "authentic" digerydo yet, Caroline. We stopped at a fruit and veg market and wow was it cheap. Then we checked out Target (not quite the same) and stocked up on groceries for Tracy and Paul's very hungry boys. I also got some Tim Tams and Cherry Ripes to take home...yum! After a coffee and a nap, we met some of Tracy's friends at an Afghan restaurant called ... read more

What a day! Tracy and I are deleriously exhausted. We started the day by playing golf at the Adelaide Golf Course. I haven't played since Tracy visited me in The Woodlands almost 3 years ago so expectations were very low. We suprised ourselves with a decent 10 holes of golf. We didn't keep score, but we fell right back into the groove. Tracy and I have our own unique blend of seriousness, silliness, fizzy breaks, encouragement, criticisims, and golf course navigation...thus 10 holes. Mind you, we were WALKING and not in a straight line; it was zigzagging up and down hills. By the time we got to the clubhouse, we were bad off. Tracy got repremanded for parking in the pro's space (he should put up a sign). We ordered beer and chips, sat on the ... read more

The moment you've all been waiting for...me, kangaroos, and koalas! Tracy drove us into the Adelaide Hills to Gorge Wildlife Reserve where we petted lots of "roos." I was a bit nervous at first, but these were small and very tame ones. We also saw birds, bats, wallabies and KOALAS! Yes, I got to cuddle one just like Kate, but without the emotional breakdown. After that we drove to Mount Lofty, the highest peak in the Adelaide Hills. Paul's fancy GPS was getting annoying by telling Tracy to make U turns when she thought she knew where to go. We wound up taking the very scenic route through narrow curving mountain roads where we saw apple, plum, and cherry orchards, not to mention beautiful vinyards and country houses surrounded by rose gardens. We had meat pies ... read more

After Tracy and I had lunch, a nap, and a coffee, we set out on another adventure to Adelaide's botanical gardens. I was thoroughly impressed with the amazing plants and birds. We decided to one day open our own botanical gardens... Tracy will manage the gift shop and cafe while I piddle with the plants. I hope you are as impressed as I am with the gigantic ancient trees here!... read more

I thought I was in great shape, but my legs are tired! Tracy and I walked from her house to downtown Adelaide. The city is full of quaint buildings, unique vegetation, and lots of STATUES! Tracy says I can't put pics of all because you would be bored to tears. Oh and congrats Paul and Tracy on your new green fence. Too bad the installers didn't realize we were walking when he called to say they were done or they would have given us more time to get home.... read more
