The plan for this day was to get up early and FINALLY do the Top of the Rock. Fail. Guess it's just another reason to go back!! We instead, chucked our things in a locker at the hostel, then headed down to Times Square where we had some brekkie and did a bit of wandering, then heading to Madame Tussuad's. We were there for just under 2 hours pretending we were friends with the rich and the famous, then caught the Subway to FAO Swartz! This place was amazing! All the kids toys you could ever imagine! Amazing!! This is also the place that has the piano that Tom Hanks plays on in the movie Big. We had to have a go, it was heaps of fun!! There was a 2 minute time limit though... Fair ... read more

A year and a half late, and just before my trip back to this beautiful city, I've decided to finish this.. It will be a bit choppy seeing as... you know... It was a year and a half ago =P Not sure what time we got up this day, but we decided to go on a long walk... Well.. I'm not sure we decided on it... But it happened! I'm sure one of us (possibly me) decided that the Dakota Hotel (where John Lennon was shot) was only a couple of blocks away, and therefore wouldn't take us long to get there.. How wrong I was! After walking what seemed like forever, we got there.. had a quick look, then decided the Subway might be a better idea! After a short trip, we made our way ... read more

We got up and headed to the Milford for another sad goodbye… This time it was Lauren’s turn. We said goodbye, to which she replied, “I’ll see you before Christmas!!” Looking forward to it LV!! We left and headed down to the Ground Zero site. It’s a bit odd being there, remembering all the images from that day. The site itself it really big, you can only imagine how tall the towers themselves were. We basically did a lap of the site; you can’t really see much anymore, it’s just a building site now. We did see a mural on the wall, on the side of a fire station that’s across the road from the site. The mural had the names of all the fire fighters that lost their lives that day. Whilst we were standing ... read more

Got up early and headed down to Battery Park with Caddie to meet up with Lauren, UK Mich, Steve and Nathan. Got our tickets for the ferry out to see the Statue of Liberty. It’s big… But not as big as I thought it would be. It was still pretty cool to see. Once we were on the Island, we lost the others, so Mich and I just took lots of photos ourselves, or found other Aussie tourists to take photos of us =) We headed back to the ferry and found all the others on there. Before taking us back to Manhattan, the ferry stops at Ellis Island. We decided to skip that stop, as we don’t really know a lot about Ellis Island anyway, and had more important things to do and see! We ... read more

We had a mini sleep in, then got ready and headed down to Times Square to meet up with Loz before we started our TV & Movie Sites Tour. Quite an interesting tour, as well as seeing the sites, we got a good overview of the entire city, as the sites were all over the place. Sites we did see included the Ghostbusters fire station, houses from I Am Legend and the Cosby Show, Ben’s Pizza from Men In Black II (we also had lunch here, yummy!), the Friends apartments, Law & Order Courts, Bowery Ballroom from Coyote Ugly and the tour finished outside the Gossip Girl Hotel. From there Mich, Lauren and I headed down the road a little to Grand Central Station. It’s such a beautiful station - and in so many movies and ... read more

Bags to coach for the final time - 7.45! It was a little surreal I guess, after 26 days on the tour it was all going to be over =( We stopped at the United States Naval Academy. We did a tour of the grounds. It was kind of interesting… But our tour guide was pretty boring… So it wasn’t that great. It’s extremely hard to get into this school, and it’s so strict once you’re in, with barely any outside contact etc. We then hopped back in the bus and headed into Philly!! We had a surprise stop at the steps from the Rocky movie… Which I’ve never seen and don’t have any real plans too… But it was exciting all the same! We then headed more into town, listening to Bruce sing, “Streets of ... read more

9am off to the coach to get a ride into DC. Michelle, Lauren and I decided to make our first stop the Holocaust Museum. It’s been said it is the best museum in DC, and after going there I have to agree. We were there for around 2 hours, and it was so well set up, and if you were to read everything and look at every picture you could just about be there all day. It was really heartbreaking though as well… A very touching tribute to the victims of the Holocaust. Our next couple of stops were fairly rushed, we knew what we wanted to see so we kinda just walked in and out. We went to the American History Museum, where we saw the original Star Spangled Banner - the one the song ... read more

Brekkie was set up in our own little quarters downstairs, then at 8am we headed out to the coach. We were taken to Arlington Cemetery, where we saw the changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and JFK’s gravesite. He has his son on one side of him, Jackie O next to him, with a plot for his daughter next to her. Just around the corner is Robert Kennedy’s gravesite, and I’d imagine that around this area is where they’ve buried recently deceased Edward Kennedy. After this we saw the Iwo Jima Memorial (yet another war memorial). We then got dropped at the Smithsonian Museums. The first thing we did was go visit Obama crew at the White house. The flag was flying high which I believe means he was home? So ... read more

8.45am Bags to Coach! Stopped at a truck stop just past the Virginia border… Had a lunch stop in Richmond, the capital of Virginia. Cute little area where we stopped - it was here I found blocks of Cadbury’s chocolate!! Was super excited… Tried it later and it was horrible… pathetic excuse for Cadbury’s!! Got to Washington, we were staying just out a bit, in Cheverly at the HoJo!! Haha the Howard Johnson Hotel… Had buffet dinner at a little Italian restaurant next to the hotel, then hopped on the bus for an Illumination tour of Washington Dc. We started at the Capital building, got a few photos, then went to the World War 2 Memorial and Jefferson Memorial before it got dark. We then saw the Lincoln Memorial, Korean Memorial and the Vietnam War Memorial. ... read more

7.45 Bags to Coach! We were in Charlston for around 3 hours - and were really excited about it because that's where the Notebook was filmed! Michelle and I had planned to see the house Noah fixed up.... then found out at the information centre that its ages away, and even if we got to it, its on a private plantation so wouldn't be able to see it anyway =( We did however see the theatre where Noah and Allie had their first date! We just walked around for the rest... Went into a shop called Urban Outfitters... had lunch... On to Raleigh. Surprise movie - the Notebook!!! Moans from all the guys, and all of us girls cried our way through it! Such a good movie - could watch it over and over! Got to ... read more
