Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Cairns » Cairns City March 28th 2014

My visit to Cairns could well be labelled as a love story. Cairns has actually proved to be the love of my life (due apologies to my husband, Luke!). The city is extremely beautiful and comes across as a sort of poetry eulogising the natural prowess of Australia! The tropical climate of the city allowed me to relax and take in the natural environs of the place without having to worry about the climatic conditions of the place. For most, Cairns is the gateway to the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef but for me, the city has a lot up its sleeve but it only unfolds to those who are not satisfied with only the superficial. Let’s talk about the attractions of the city. There is a lot to experience in this city and it is ... read more

Oceania » Australia » South Australia » Adelaide January 13th 2014

After the “aloofness” of Perth, it was time to greet the city that has it all!! Adelaide is one of the most picturesque cities I have been to (and I have been to few!). The beautiful Adelaide Hills, the stunning white-sand beaches, great cultural highlights, great many lip-smacking local wines and a colonial heritage – there is nothing that this fantastic Australian city misses out on. For me Adelaide itself worked like a fine vintage wine, delicious initially but heavenly as the time wore on. I reached Adelaide with no certain expectations. I admit I was keener to reach Sydney, which is promoted the world over as the true representative emblem of Australia. Even Melbourne was much higher on priority list. For me, the novice, Adelaide was a sort of aberration with churches and cathedrals and ... read more

Asia » Indonesia » Bali » Kuta December 25th 2013

I am in the middle of my world tour and I have to say that I have seen so much and so many that nothing startles and overwhelms me now. However, if there is one surprise package that really winded me out with its earthly charm, it would be Indonesia. And to think I almost skipped this one as I thought it was the usual tropical beach destination that are so many around! Indonesia is like a fine wine. It actually grows better with time you spend here. It is a good thing if you head to the country, like me, with no knowledge of it whatsoever. Unexpected beauty is always more powerful! Of course, it the beaches in Bali that have propelled the country to where it is – among the top of tourism in ... read more

Not far from Singapore is another fantastic holiday destination – Malaysia! My flight took less than an hour to deposit me at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, which is Malaysia’s busiest airport and handles flights from all parts of the globe. I have been around the Asian continent and have, more or less, accepted the striking diversity that is such a prominent feature in here, but still nothing could prepare me for yet another such in-your-face versatile country! “Truly Asia”, yes the official slogan of Malaysian tourism is what that rings in your mind as you begin to unravel the highs and lows of the place. You begin to understand that it is certainly not a clever PR catchphrase that have been developed in boardrooms, it is actually the way the country is – truly, authentically ... read more

Asia » Singapore » Sentosa Island » Siloso Beach December 2nd 2013

The world, it seems, is a candy store where all flavours and every taste come together to put smiles of the faces of children (the travellers). From my incredibly invigorating trip to Thailand, it was time to explore charms held by Singapore, “the world's only sovereign city-state that is also an island country,” goes the Wikipedia. Singapore, like Thailand and India, comes across as a mesmeric blend of the traditional and modern. But unlike the two countries, dissimilarities here in Singapore are more compact. You needn't travel miles to unearth contrasting facets of this country. It is right here. Right where you stand! Of course, it is the modern that has always been the more dramatic and is more likely to stun you in silence of admiration. The sky touching buildings, gigantic shopping malls, colorful nightlife ... read more

Asia » Thailand » Central Thailand » Bangkok November 20th 2013

After an eye-opening, appealing and stimulating experience in India, it was time for me to explore the varied charms of another equally riveting destination - Thailand. I arrived in this Fareast nation with great tales of risqué and beauty playing in my mind. City of Angels, Bangkok; Pearl of the South, Phuket; and Thai Tropical Paradise, Pattaya – all destinations in this country are so incredibly popular and so much has been written about them that it feels I have been to all these places already! Bangkok Thai capital, Bangkok is so full with attractions and activities that the city literally forced me to fall in love with it. After spending a few days in the Thai city, I realised that holiday to Bangkok is nothing without soaking in the mesmeric beauty of the Chao Praya ... read more

Asia » India » Maharashtra » Mumbai November 8th 2013

After a long trip through the Royal Heart of India, Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and Udaipur, it was time for me to board my flights to India’s Powerhouse of Entertainment, Mumbai and country’s Premier Beach Destination, Goa. Mumbai I arrived in Mumbai on flights from Udaipur and checked into the Best Western Emerald Hotel in Juhu area that is popular for its beach – perhaps the most popular beach in Mumbai. The location is pretty close to the airport and I was spared the long and tiring commute after I disembarked my flights at the airport. The hotel is a three star budget accommodation but features fairly impressive facilities and amenities. Hotel staff is caring and friendly and I found the room service quite prompt. I wasn’t equally impressed with the dining though; but I guess it ... read more

Asia » India » National Capital Territory » Delhi October 29th 2013

I have been holidaying in India for over a week now and after exploring North India I am now in Mumbai for last couple of days. I have, so far, explored a staggering assortment of superb crowd pullers in North Indian cities of Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and Udaipur. Here is a brief outline of few of my experiences in the first week of my holiday. I started my holiday with India’s capital, Delhi, where I arrived on flights last Saturday and was joined by my friend who was already in the city. The first thing that caught my attention as soon as I disembarked my flights was the IGI airport. Many taking flights to the capital city’s avant-garde airport will agree that the sprawling terminal 3 is an attraction in its own right. Delhi Like most ... read more

Booking flight tickets is only a small part of the preparations that go into making an overseas journey possible. Ensuring that one possesses valid travel documents (passport/visa) and will be eligible for entry into the foreign destination or even for transiting through an en route stopover is necessary; and these factors must be mulled over carefully well before one calls the travel agent for booking air tickets for flights and accommodation etc. And since these factors can make or break your holiday, here are the significant entry requirements related to visas and passports for the popular Asian destinations including India and Far East that I cover on my holiday starting this weekend. The info has been sourced from FCO which offers advice for British Nationals; and it is recommended to check www.gov.ukfor latest and updated requirements ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » London City October 11th 2013

I have been back home in London and the Friday morning seemed like a great opportunity for me to once again take to my blog. The weather here could not be more different from the type of sunny weather I experienced during my recent trip to the Middle East; and it’s not a long time before the chilly winter is upon the UK. From out of my window when I see flights take off, I look back on my trip and cannot help but gloat about my decision to book air tickets to the destinations I visited. All rejuvenated and having attended to important chores here in London, I am now focussed and looking forward to my next holiday that starts with India in the coming week. While my mid-haul middle-east holiday was a result of ... read more
