well colin has been keeping the countdown to safari on track, and today theres only 3 days left! ahhh so exciting. first thing wednesday morning, look out! 5 days on safari, then 4 in zanzibar lying on the beach and checking out stone town, then its home again! i can't believe we'll be home in 12 days. time sure flies when you're having fun. altho i can't say its been all fun, kinda boring back in teh village. but only one more day there so it won't be too bad. so we've been having a good time in mwanza. jane and [View Full Entry]

Well its hard to believe but our time in Nyamuswa is almost over! The countdown is down to 5 days to safari time!!! i can't remember what i wrote last time ut i don't want tow aste the time rereading it so just ignore if i repeat.... we had a nice visit to mwanza last time and weren't all that excite to be back in teh village. but at least we had soem things to do. we taught HIV/AIDS education at the two area high schools on monday, tuesday and wednesday this week. well we had an excellent few days here in mwanza. it was nice to get away from the village and see some action for a few days! haha but it wasn't all vacation, we did have a meeting with AMREF yesterday about setting up our HIV/AIDS peer education group. we're hoping to get enough $$ together to send a few people from the village to Dar Es Salaam (capital of Tanzania, 30hrs by train) for 4 weeks of training so they can return to Nyamuswa and focus on counselling and educating the people there. Hello again Well we finally made it back into Mwanza to get back into civilization haha close enough anyways. we have a cell phone now, so you can call us! it won't cost us anything, even though we thought it might. hopefully it won't cost you a fortune, but i don't care, call us anytime! to call us from canada dial 011 255 786 589 647 the best time to call would be in the afternoons, which is early morning at home. it hardly ever works at night, and we sleep from about 4pm to midnight newfoundland time. i want to [View Full Entry]

Nice flight over the pond to London. Got to spend most of the day in london which was great. just kinda walked around a bit, saw the highlights (picadilly circus, trafalgar square, the thames, big ben, the eye, etc) then back on the flight to nairobi overnight. got to nairobi, managed to get our bags transferred to precision air for our flight to mwanza. erin and addys bags, however, didn't make the final cut. as of right now addy has her bag but erin still has nothing. so we are staying another night in mwanza to see if they show up [View Full Entry]

only 2 mins of internet left... got up this morning to do a few last minute things.. went to a medical museum, saw a 150 year old operating theatre - thank god its not like that anymore! scary to think you'd probably be better off if you didnt go see the doctor. finally got up in teh london eye, crazy big ferris wheel type thing. great views of all of london then off to harrods where victoria beckham was shopping, but didn't see her, just her car! then off to the science museum for a 3D shark IMAX movie, but it [View Full Entry]

well for a room with 12 people sleeping in it i must say it was very quiet! had a good sleep. hopefully we can have a repeat tonight.... so i got up early this morning and headed off to paddington station to see about going to bath for the day on the train. after easily buying tickets from an automated machine i was off! trains are lovely, just hop on 2 mins befoer they leave, and hop off in the middle of the next city right in the middle of it all. no security line ups, no lining up, nothing. it [View Full Entry]

Well I made it back to London, with my new temporary passport and all! how excellent. so yesterday I got up and went to teh embassy to pick up my new passport. no problems which was nice. Then I hopped on the metro to head south of town, then onto a suburban train to ostia antica. its the port city of ancient rome (it was so long ago that its not even on the river or the ocean any more). Well, what didn't I do today? Lets see... up at 730 and a quick breakfast then i took off across town on an hour walk to the vatican. i was NOT in the mood to repeat yesterdays pickpocketing so i avoided the rush hour metro. then i got in the crazy line-up for the vatican museum, it only took about 45 mins. apparantly its hours sometimes, so i'll consider myself lucky.
