After waking up in the dark (the sun doesnīt rise here until about 8) we trudged down to the small Colonia bus station to catch our bus to Punta del Este. Not as nice as the Argentine busses but much cheaper and a short, 5 hour ride. Passed through the capital of Montevideo along the way. Weīve heard from various sources there isnīt much to do there so we decided to just pass on through and head straight for the beaches of Punta del Este. Our boat back to Buenos Aires leaves from Montevideo Friday morning at 1130 so we may [View Full Entry]

Well we finally made it to a second country! Take that Chile and your stupid snow... Linda and Ewan were heading downtown Buenos Aires so we even got a lift to our hostel. Not near as nice as Milhouse where we stayed when we first arrived, and the location was the pits. But we went for a long walk right down the waterfront through Puerto Madero past all the swanky restaurants and boats and things. Very nice walk. Got the boat dock and picked up our tickets to Uruguay, then trudged back to the hostel through the Florida shopping strip. It [View Full Entry]

We're going to say goodbye to the MacDonald clan and Hurlingham today and head back downtown to Buenos Aires. We're planning on spending a night downtown so we can catch a 900 ferry to Colonia, Uruguay on Tuesday morning. From there we hope to get to Montevideo and the beach near Punta del Este as well. One week until we head home! The last two weeks have flown having such a good time. It will be nice to breathe some fresh Newfie air again though and sleep in my own bed. (and not wake each other up with our snoring hahah) [View Full Entry]

Well we are feeling MUCH better today. After an all night bus ride from Mendoza to Buenos Aires, my relatives have most graciously offered us to stay at their home for a few nights in the surburbs of this massive city. Nice little spot called Hurlingham. So we managed to find the train station just down the street from the bus station and we even got on the right train. Took about an hour, passing some pretty grungy neighbourhoods I must say. But they were right there to meet us. It's so nice to hear people speaking good English for a [View Full Entry]

Well two entries in two hours might seem a bit excessive but thereīs yet more to tell. So as soon as we left the internet café the last time I went to a payphone to call my relatives, Linda and Ewan, who live in Buenos Aires. Since we are headed to the city tonight I thought Iīd call to let them know we were coming to Buenos Aires and see about a visit or whatever. While I was talking to Linda, some guy walks around me, DROPS A SET OF KEYS and then goes to the phone booth next to me [View Full Entry]

Well I donīt know if this day can get any worse.... well it can (knock on wood)... First this morning we got to the bus station to catch our bus to Viņa del Mar, Chilé. However old man winter has caught up with us and snowed in the mountian passes so all buses to Chilé have been cancelled. So we managed to get a taxi back to the bus agency where we booked and got 70% of our money back. Excellent. Then we booked another bus back to Buenos Aires tonight because thereīs no sense hoping the pass will open tomorrow [View Full Entry]

Hello again from Mendoza... Well we went on our wine tours yesterday and it was pretty good. Saw a small winery, then a big winery and the different ways they make the wines. Then we went to a chocolate/liqueur place. All gave some nice samples, and the chocolate is the die for. Iīve never drank more than two glasses of wine in my life so Iīm not a very good judge but Jacquelien said she didnīt think they were very good.... oh well itw as worth it anyways. We met a couple of nice British guys on that tour and we [View Full Entry]

Here we are on the western edge of Argentina in the beautiful city of Mendoza. It's really dry around here with very little rain so they have built an impressive system of ditches and irrigation stuff (i don't know what to call it!) which delivers water all over the streets. The roads are all lined with trees, but too bad they have no leaves this time of year. Gotta love winter. There's not a whole lot to do in the city itself. We went for a walk around yesterday to see the fountains in the plaza de independencia. We even went [View Full Entry]

Well itīs officially our second week in Argentina and I hope it keeps getting better! What an awesome time we had yesterday... So we had to get up at 620am to leave for our 14 hour tour. The sun doesnīt rise around here until about 8 or 830 and then the mountains block it out until nearly 10 so we had a chance to get a nice nap in before it got too bright. But once we got out of the city and up into the mountians we didnīt want to nap anymore. I canīt do it justice in words but [View Full Entry]

Well its been a few days. Weīve been too busy enjoying the craziness of northern Argentina to get in any updates... so here goes. The bus ride wasnīt too bad over from Puerto Iguazu but 26 hrs is a little much. And we only had semi-cama seats, not cama so they were too narrow to sleep very well. After arriving in Salta we spent Canada day just relaxing and moseying around the town on foot. There are a lot of cool old buildings and one crazy church. we walked in thinking weīd get to see the church but there was a [View Full Entry]
