We are your biggest fans We are on the road so we have not written to you lately but love your adventure. Lebanon is one of the places we truly must see so we are reading along closely. Soon we follow in your foot steps and head to Cuba. Hopefully, we will share your enthusiasm and see as many wonderful things as you did. Hopefully, you will follow us on that adventure.
I read it and I loved it! "Ever heard a Parisian call their city the Beirut of the north?"
I think I spit my coffee across my keyboard when I read that! Hilarious!!!!
My cousin he lives in Sydney Yeatsey can't believe you didn't enjoy Lebanon, it's easy to navigate as you walk the streets - turn left at the machine gun emplacement, right at the tank and you're there. The Gemmayze district ranks up there with one of the best bar strips that I've stumbled around. But I do have fond memories of the taxi driver in the battered merc trying to find the said nightclub district...... nothing like an unguided tour of Beirut.
Wow! I'd love to go to the Lebanon. I didn't know it is safe enough to go there. It must be, since you are there. I am about to read this blog now, so I can have more of an idea about your opinions about being safe there. Hopefully, I will then put it on my travel list, and have something to say about it, from personal experience. :)
Fooly Sick Wow, disappointing report from Beirut. I was wandering if you got anywhere near the coast line and if there was anything redeeming about it.
See you soon
Moat walking and contrasts I love that you discovered moat walking for avoiding the crowds, and that "fisherman and cruise ship" is fab--you caught the guy right in the beam of light--great contrast!
Roads for Rhodes I guess this is it, getting behind the tourist facade, being a local if only for a week. Something we hope to do in Barcelona in a few weeks.
We'd love to go back to Greece. We made it to Crete, Mykonos and Santorini but Rhodes is still on our list. You've got to love a country that serves you olives every morning for breakfast. Seriously, it does not get much better than that. The color of the water always amazes. Happy and safe travels.
Lovely Cretan visit but would read with a pinch of salt We enjoyed reading your blog and seeing the photos. Being Greek myself and having lived away for many years, it has awaken smells and flavours of my homeland.
However, I would disagree on the generalised view of Greeks not paying tax presented through that incident with the waitress. I will not get into how many of my friends and family work hard and pay taxes but the danger is that by perpetuating the belief that all Greeks avoid tax, we create the impression that all Greeks are dishonest.
Point taken Weve had a few conversations since then and the general consensus is they pay way too much tax. With that in mind, credit cards are an almost alien notion here, nobody wants them so as to avoid paying dreaded tax. It's cash all the way.
Gary and Penny, from the beginning... Again. Round the world for a year in 07 and we've decided it's time once more. So packing up the house, the jobs, selling the cars and up up and away, this time with no return ticket and no fixed itinerary. A smidgin reckless, sure, but what the hell. May as well indulge in a few passions before the last great journey in who knows when.
Stay tuned and please stay in contact, cause whilst we love seeing what the rest of the world has to offer, we also love receiving news from home base.... full info
