May the remaining five be partially convinced!
I have to confess, I have been a convert since my trip there in 2002. Iran occupies no lowly pedestal for me, as it contains some of the most hospitable, beautiful and extraordinary people there are (some of the architecture gets a noble mention too). I have been trying to convince my skeptical satanic-US-wife (and kids) to let me take them there for years. If she's convinced after reading this, you will be forever revered in my household, at least more so than any Australian sportsperson who currently lives.

Beautiful!
I just read about you in Iran and now I see you've been to Todos Santos. I went there for three days in 1987. A day to drive there and two days to fix the car so we could drive out. I can't believe you actually started your trip at the end of the world.

Ha ha.
Todos Santos does feel like the end of the world. Loved your mattress description. Can I use that line sometimes please?

Thanks for the trip
You two are my new heroes! You not only take the road less traveled, but, you share your experiences and thoughts with the world. I could almost smell the sheep head soup. As an old geezer, I am near the end of my adventure travel, i.e., cheap hotels, exotic food, and mysterious creatures in soft, lumpy things that people use for mattresses. Thanks for the inspiration. Keep it up. Take Care. And, Best Wishes!

Breathtaking.
I don't know how you do it but your photos really capture a moment. Such an art!

A stamp to be proud of.
I was glad to read that Iran isn't as "bad" as the media portrays. Still, it takes some serious guts to venture to those areas. Once again, your photos are beautiful.

Thanks again.
Actually it's only that first step into Iran that's tough. It really is a piece of cake once you are there.

An engrossing and entertaining blog
iran has been on my list of countries to visit for 20 years but other destinations continually jump the queue. Your blog has me seriously considering a visit in 2013. One question, how long did it take to organise your visa?
7th December 2012

Thanks
Thanks for reading. As for the visa, it took about a week in Istanbul after we dropped off our passports. First you need a visa number which we did through an agency in Iran, "Iran Travelling Centre" I think it was. But! There are plenty of people who claim you can now get the visa for 2 weeks on arrival at the airport. Good luck and get yourself over there, you will only regret if you don't make it.

I want to tell you how much I have enjoyed this blog on Iran. It is a wonderful blog that is educational and eye-opening. I live in canada and have met many Iranians and you have confirmed how warm I know these people to be. Excellent work. My first time at blogging is located at www.mytb.org/whirl-traveller

Thanks for that.
I'll have a look at your site now

Merry Christmas
A bit slow responding. Sorry but this blog site was blocked in Iran. It must be deemed evil. How's the new job and say hi to Mary and Imogen. Have a safe, if cold, Christmas.

Sorry for the tardy reply, this site was blocked in Iran. Mr Ahmadinajad must have deemed it evil. Thanks again for the compliment.

Reminiscing again but a little green with envy!
Very interested to read your assessment! I would love to have tagged Lebanon onto our recent trip but would not go without a group even though \i lived there during the civil war. You probably have seen much more than I ever could--we couldn't even go to the Centre of Beirut! LOve your writing and enjoy your great photos! Thanks . . .

Nice to hear from you
Very nice to get your feedback and we did have our eyes out for you in Istanbul but what are the odds on that. I hope we weren't too negative on Lebanon. Kep in touch and give our regards to Lisle.

Great reminiscing . . .
\lisle and \i have just returned from Turkey, Israel & Greece. \just loved reading this section on \istanbul. I was last in Turkey in 1993 so I observed huge changes everywhere! Lise and \i stayed in Sultanahmet at \international Youth Hostel [as I did 20 yrs. ago] but then that part of S'ahmet wasn't alive--wow what a difference. a week later we went to Taksim to meet up with a group with whom we travelled further afield and the service in the hotel was appalling--give me the Youth Hostel any day. Enough said . . . I will read on. Cheeers, Norma [Lisa Sanasi's step mum-in-law]
