Once again my obsession with this place drags me 500 odd kilometers into the barren wasteland to experince utter silence and stark beauty at its best. Pitch dark roadways, chattering cold tents, undies full of sand, rattle snake tracks and inflatable beds have become something I am starting to get comfortable with! I've done a lot of solos on this sector and always felt it was a long way from home. The road never seems to end. The constant humming of tires go on ceaselessly urging you to silently take a nap on the wheel. Add to it the fatigue [View Full Entry]

Say what?
We woke up to this!
Clouds and Dune Tops

Yeah that's all I came across in this trip back home. Visited a bunch of old structures where the only theme the architects of the lore could come up with was sex and everyone who saw me taking pictures thought I was a terrorist planning a bomb blast in their beloved city! Charminar was obviously a lil conservative and amazingly this was the first time I actually climbed it up, coz till now entry was prohibited (some chump decided to learn flying from its roof). Apparently Charminar was built for the royalty to escape the plague that was speading by rats [View Full Entry]

Palace Entrance

Dropped by at Corniche for a night photo shoot with a buddy, Vinay. Got some shots off pretty well but had to bracket them like mad coz of all the light noise from street lights. Damn tiring that was to review each pic and adjust metering! Stopped at Qanat Al Qasba for a moment too. [View Full Entry]

Sherbat Vendor

Ya, thats a new word Kavita came up with when she heard some noise from the backpack she was carrying up the hill two nights ago. We are still trying to place what the sound was! Went for a overnighter to Jebel Hafeet for some barbecued chicken, rough sleeping in tents and awesome morinng views. Missed tea big time though since the fire was a lil' bit on the dying side due to winds. Went star spotting, fire gazing, rock-top contemplating, fossil hunting, climbing (falling sometimes :) hey gravity works there too!) The hot springs were closed so no dip in [View Full Entry]

Hit the park for a macro session. For a change the pics came out cool, thanks to my girl who did all the clicking! And apologies for the freaked out names I gave. BTW who makes it mandatory to have a tag line to pics anyways! [View Full Entry]

Honestly, I did a lot of trips in the meanwhile but I got too lazy to catalog them. Just back from Hatta, border town of UAE and Oman. Had some good time with someone special, got some good pics too. Wud have been better if it wasn't so freakin hot and the damn dam had some water in its reserves!! [View Full Entry]

Odd Dunes

Combatant

Well the place pulled me back again!! The pictures I posted don't do justice to the real thing and I ain't no poet to write a nice song to explain it. One has to go thr to experience the feeling. Empty void, majestic heights, monotonous tones, minimalistic lines. It truly is weird. A long ride made longer by the cold, battery on our car dying on us and the empty pitch dark road ways freakin us out. For miles we were the only car on the road not to mention in the desert! On our way we saw this barn [View Full Entry]

No plans really, that morning we just woke up and went to "explore". Read somewhere about queen Sheeba of Turkey having a fort here in the UAE and went off on a wild goose chase, somehow ended up in the mountains of Hajar, drank mountain dew on the border of Oman, climbed few rocks, spotted some spectacular fossils, waded in puddles and back at home for dinner. Now that's what I call a perfect weekend. The roads were freakin confusing actually and none of the people living there never heard of the places we are looking for. Ofcourse there were [View Full Entry]
