Virginia Claire - Virginia Claire Tharrington

Hi Everyone!! Hope you enjoy the blog! I am studying English Literature in Bath, England till December which has been amazing. I am also interning at the Jane Austen Centre which has been an once in a lifetime opportunity. I am very thankful to be in Bath for the semester but I do miss everyone terribly! I wish I could stay long because I am having such a wonderful time but I think I would miss everyone too much.

I am just a lil Janeite off to see the world because "If adventure does not befall a young lady in her own village she mush seek them abroad" Jane Austen in Northanger Abbey!

I am taking some amazing classes- Shakespeare in Performance, Jane Austen and Worlds Beyond Oxford (Lewis, Tolkien and Pullman) and then my Jane Austen Internship.

I am living the dream and loving every minute of it! : ) Keep in Touch

Jump for it

Yesterday most of my ASE group went to a Bath Rugby game which was so much fun. I think Rugby sould be more popular in America than it is. It reminds me of football but it rarely stops there are no downs and such only out of bounds. A score is called a "try" and place kicking is different too. My Jane Austen Class!

So yesterday I had my final Jane Austen class with Felicity James. It was so wonderful. We talked about Persuasion and the revised chapters. The final chapters of Persuasion might be some of my favorites throughout all her works. Anne and Capt. Harville's discussion of men vs. womens constancy and who loves longest is one of the most touching pieces of writing. Anne also makes some of the best comments about women's education and men having the, "pen in there hands to so much higher a degree". Trying to go to Hogwarts

I am almost in tears thinking that 3 1/2 months as gone by since I left home... wow so much has happened and yet it doesn't seem like all that long ago. I love Bath so much but I think I will be ready to come home and see the family. I miss the South a lot and I miss all my friends as well. Brother and me

OK so sorry it has been so long since i have posted.... Brother and Matt have been here. We went up to Scotland last weekend and had a blast although we did not have seats on the trains because I did not know you had to book actual seats rather than just showing up which is what you have to do for all the other trains but after standing on a train for 4 1/2 hours we were very tired on Friday. Stratford-upon- Avon

My Favorite people in England

Last Wednesday Thursday and Friday my ASE group went to Stratford-upon- Avon to see some Shakespeare plays and the town. It was a lovely time and I really enjoyed most of our time there. some of the highlights included - Seeing Shakespeare's Birthplace - Researching at the RSC achieves for Love's Labour's Lost - Seeing Mid Summer Nights Dream at the Courtyard theater - Warwick Castle - Seeing Love's Labours Lost with David Tennant!!!!! SO tomorrow We are all off to Stratford Upon Avon... where Shakespeare is from! to stay for several days and see a few plays I am very excited to be off. Me at the house where Jane spent her last days

I saw one of the most beautiful countryside I have ever seen in Hampshire England. My Jane Austen class went on our study trip to Winchester and Chawton. It was amazing and one of the best days of my entire time here. We started out at the house on College Street in Winchester where Jane Austen spent her last days and died in Cassandra’s arms. SO tonight was Guy Fawkes Night, which is sorta like our 4th of July. I went out with Becca Luke, Donna, Steven to a lovely dinner. then we went down to the bridge to watch the fireworks.
