Back in Action again... I promised my mother and grandmother that I would be better about keeping up with my blog this semester. I have been neglecting it for the past couple of weeks purely because I was too busy to even think about it. Finely though, we are getting back into the swing of school and so I now have a little time to think and reflect on being in China for another year. I must say that packing for the second time around was not as easy as I had hoped it would be. I still did not sleep the night before I left but it all turned out to be fine. I had a fine trip over though I would not venture to say it was comftorable, and as soon as I touched ... read more

Took Mom to Trivia where we WON! Ok so the past 4 days have perhaps be the craziest EVER. Mom and dad left the US to come to Japan and the to cruise to China on Monday morning. I had told mom before I left the states that when they come they will have to have Chinese Visas... did they listen... nope. So here is how everything happened Mom and dad were about to board the cruise ship. The cruise people were looking at their passports and go "where is your chinese visa." Mom says "What?" That is when the realize that the DONT have Chinese Visas. So they go to a hotel and the Chinese Consulate. Mom was of course crazy stressed out and I dont think she slept or ate while she was in Japan at all. After a couple of ... read more

I stumbled across this blog from Sparknotes in one of those happy chances that the internet sometimes gives to us (you click on one link and then another until you stumble upon a gold mine). My eye was caught by this tagline "Would a Modern Day Darcy be a Dirty Hipster?" At this my heart almost stopped. "God I hope not I though" but my interests were roused. The blog is telling Pride and Prejudice as if it were happening today and told over a teen blog. It also talks about the rules of teen novels and so on. The best part of the entire thing was the use of modern teen slang to help explain the plot and character of the novel. A particularly wonderful section I thought was of course about Mr. Collins When ... read more

So my first semester of teaching is OVER!!! YAHOOOO! The kids have taken their last exams. I have graded all of my tests and I have started to write the bazillion comments that I have to do. WOAH it is a little over whelming to say the least. When the kids left today it was a little bitter sweet. I am sooo glad that we are done with the semester and I cannot believe how time has flown by, but I also cant believe that I have another week of teacher stuff before our break begins… now that is not fair. As a student you think that all the work is done when the tests are over… but NOOOO. The fun has only just begun. Not only do I have to do more math to calculate ... read more

We got some friends together for the Harry Potter Premier. We had a pregame party at a local place and watched the 6th movie before heading to see the 7th. This was a great plan because it caught everyone up on the story and then headed to the 7th film. Lucy and I dressed up as Ravenclaws Luna and Cho. We were the only ones to dress up at the theater but the others there got a kick out of us. Over all it was wild to experience Harry Potter in China. ... read more

I have officially had a terrible day. There have been some high points and bright spots it is true but it has officially been my worst day in China thus far. We were done with midterms on Friday so the students and foreign teachers get Monday off. In celebration Becca, Pamela, our friend Steph and I were going to spend a couple of days in Hangzhou which is were the beautiful West Lake is. We were so excited for the trip but it started off rocky from the start. We had to travel 2 hours across Shanghai to get to the train station to take a 40 minute train. It took so long on the metro that Becca and I just gave up and took a cab for the last little bit so that we would ... read more

So I have been missing the south a lot recently and so here are somethings that both make me miss the south and make China feel a little more like home. There is a bar called Southern Belle- which claims to have Southern food. I found boiled peanuts while eating street food- not as good as the ones at LKW though and teaching my kids beach music for music class!! Love everyone! VC... read more

Last week Becca, Mike and I went to the Expo with our Chinese friend Liz. Here are some great pictures from the wonderful time we had. The Expo was not crowded as it could have been which was nice. It was a mix between a very large state fair and Disneyland if you can imagine how that is. ... read more
