| 10th September 2008 Sarah English | literary association for Salisbury Cathedral - From: Stonehenge, Salisbury, Lacock with ASE!! Did you know that Salisbury Cathedral inspired Anthony Trollope's Barchester novels? Trollope was a big Jane Austen fan, and it's possible to see his novel The Small House at Allington as a kind of reworking of Sense and Sensibility. |
| 10th September 2008 Sarah English | Walking dogs?? - From: So flattered.. and so excited Are you walking dogs for the money? Is it fun anyhow? You look great in Regency costume! |
| 7th September 2008 Jessica | awesome cathedral - From: Stonehenge, Salisbury, Lacock with ASE!! great photos of the cathedral! I just love the architecture and aura of churches, esp. in the British isles. It's neat to know the HP connection too. |
| 7th September 2008 Jessica | happy too (and a bit jealous) - From: In Bath...settling in! I'm so glad to hear that you arrived safely and made such quick acquaintences. I would so love to be in Bath! I only spent a few brief hours there in 2004. A classmate and I took the train from London and spent all day walking to/around the American Art museum. We didn't get to the Jane Austen Centre until 5 min before closing, so all I saw was the gift shop and status outside. Alas! I did see a lot of the town though and just loved the architecture and atmosphere. I know you'll have a great time there, and can't wait to read all about it (and see pictures!). Take care! Jessica (JASNA NC member in Greensboro) |

| 28th August 2008 Sue Scott | So Happy - From: In Bath...settling in! oh, Virginia Claire, I'm so happy for you. Your Bath experience has gotton off to such a great start. Your capacity for happiness reminds me of one of my favorite exchanges in P&P--when Jane tells Elizabeth she wants Elizabeth to be as happy as she is. E. replies that she could never be as happy as J. until she had J.'s disposition and personality. I fear that if I were the one in Bath, I would not be capable of the happiness you seem to be feeling. I would probably be whining about some inconvenience or other. And it would take me longer to get to know my fellow interns and to fee so comfortable with them. So, I envy you your capacity for happiness and I'm so glad things are going so well for you. I look forward to hearing more. Sue Raleigh NC |
| 25th August 2008 Harriet Tharrington | We are so proud of you!! - From: Leaving Tomorrow! AHH Your daddy and I are so proud of you. It takes a lot of courage and confidence to cross the ocean by yourself and embark on such a unique learning experienc. We love you!! MOM |
| 22nd August 2008 Sue | - From: Providence: There is such a thing! So glad the United States Government came through for you--although not without making you sweat a little. Or should I say "perspire" since you are no doubt a lady, and ladies don't sweat. Have fun and keep us posted so that we can all be Jane Austen interns vicariously through you! Sue Raleigh NC |
