8th & 9th June, 2009. Travel across Montana Well we have had enough of that cold weather in Wyoming, so out came the maps and we started heading for the sun. Not much to report as we have spent a lot of the time in the Chevy driving. Destination for the 8th was Bozeman, travelled up from Cody through rain and cold, lunching at Big Timber, initially we were going to stay there but decided to move on and get closer to the sun. Arrived at Bozeman at around 3pm, so had a walk around the town - they had a [View Full Entry]

7th June, 2009. Cody, Wyoming Bit Cold last night, I thought Sam was joking when she told me there was snow on the ground outside this morning, there was snow and plenty of it, we had had around 4 inches overnight and it was still snowing. Temperature was 36F (3C). That lovely white stuff didn't let up until around lunch time when I went outside and broomed the snow of our wagon, cold!!!!!!!. Spoke to the next door neighbours and they had been heading off today to go to Yellowstone but the Sylvan pass was closed to all vehicles, so another [View Full Entry]

6th June, 2009 Yellowstone to Cody, Wyoming. Freezing last night and just down the road the reason why, yes it had snowed again, so much for the spring (apparently it can snow here any time). Out of the park for the last time and still no bears, but thats life. Coming out of the park you go over Sylvan Pass, 8530ft, plenty of snow up there, and then down out through a long winding road, had to take it easy with the RV on the back wanting to push us down the hill. Twenty six miles and out of the park, [View Full Entry]

5th June, 2009. Yellowstone, Wyoming Still looking for that elusive bear, drove up the "Canyon" road stopping at the walk to the brink of the Lower Falls again. Quite a strenuous walk when you come back up the hill, a good switchback trial (zigzag path), and we were so impressed with the view we had to do it again. No bears, lunch at Fishing Bridge, then we went for a visit to the Yellowstone Park Hotel (one mile from Fishing Bridge). This hotel is a protected building and was renovated in 1990. What a magnificent old hotel. Outside was parked one [View Full Entry]

4th June, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. Today its up to the top circuit, "Canyon", "Tower-Roosevelt" and then up into the Lanmar valley where it is reported we will see huge herds of Bison and other animals, we are especially looking for Bears. No Bears but saw the herds of Bison, Spika dear, Elk, Moose, Canadian geese, and a Pelican Came back around the top of the circuit, stopped at "Monmouth" for lunch, great little lunch bar and food excellent. After lunch it was up to the Monmouth Terraces (thermal) for a walk around the boardwalks. The Terraces are mainly dead silica [View Full Entry]

3rd June, 2009 Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming This morning we arose to 41F (5.5C), took off around the lower circuit, followed Lake Yellowstone until we came to "West Thumb", stopped at lakeside thermal activity, photographed Elk and Snow shooed rabbit - mosquitoes a problem here - luckily we brought our insect spray with us. On to "Craig Pass" where we stopped to observe a mother Elk with her newly born fawn, she had it hidden in the grass, hopefully away from any wolf or bear. Not far on a Coyote came along the road, stopped at a bit of road kill [View Full Entry]

2nd June, 2009. Yellowstone National park, Wyoming. Today we travelled into Fishing Bridge through the West entrance, we are staying at the only full hookup camp in Yellowstone which is at Fishing Bridge - they can take 325 RV's. There are two circuits in Yellowstone, the Upper and Lower, travelling in, we completed a small section of each, it had snowed the previous evening and the roads were a picture, most of the area is between 7000 and 8000 feet so pretty high. The temperature was 41F (5.5C). Travelling in we came across Bison and Elk, remember these are wild animals [View Full Entry]

1st June, 2009 West Yellowstone, Montana. Not to busy today, bit of shopping etc. Spent a bit of time at the Grizzly and Wolf Center, a great place, watched two of the movies, one on the Grizzly Bear. The Grizzly is a funny creature, most people think he is a meat eater when in fact the opposite is true, don't get me wrong they do eat meat but it only makes up about 20% of their diet, they eat animals caught up in the winter freeze (deceased) and the newly born calves / fawns, and are quite happy to fight the [View Full Entry]

31st May, 2009 Travel to West Yellowstone, Montana. On the move again today, said goodbye to Jackson (which we can recommend to any traveller), and headed up SH 26, through Alpine, across the border into Idaho and up through Rexburg, Ashton, across another border and into the State of Montana, arriving here at West Yellowstone around 2pm. As it implies West Yellowstone is a small town on the Western edge of the Yellowstone Park, nice place. We are at the Grizzly RV park, which is just 4 blocks from the Yellowstone entrance, it has 191 sites, all with full hook ups, [View Full Entry]

30th may, 2009 Jackson, Wyoming Little bit of house chores to catch up on this morning and then off to the Grand Teton National Park, back up to Lake Jenny, we took the easy way across the Lake, went by boat to a point where we took the trail to Hidden falls and Inspiration Point. They are not huge walks but certainly uphill all the way. The falls are quite spectacular, up in the snow country and fed by the melt, then it was up to Inspiration Point, a great lookout over lake Jenny and the surrounding district. Came across a [View Full Entry]
