16th May, 2009 Grand Junction Today I need to start with a History lesson, In 1945 Lloyd Olsen, a farmer in Fruita was slaughtering a chicken (named Mike) when his axe slipped and he didn't kill the chicken, it was headless but had its brain stem, a jugular vein and one ear intact. The farmer kept it alive by feeding it mash and water through a syringe - it was a "miracle", and he toured the country making enough money to pay off his farm, buy new equipment etc, anyway Mike died after about a year, and today they have a [View Full Entry]

14th May, 2009 Off to Grand Junction, Colorado today, pretty quick trip, only 116 miles and mainly along SH70, never fails to amaze me as I move along at 65mph, the big rigs passing and leaving me behind + the motorbikes ripping past, no helmets and only wearing the lightest of clothing ie a singlet, shorts and jandals, suppose they are cool and very dead if they come off. Plan to stay in Grand Junction for three nights, we need to catch up on washing etc. 15th May Grand Junction is a nice place, pretty laid back, we went for a [View Full Entry]

13th May, 2009 Left Bryce this morning and traveled through to Moab, what a journey, we began by climbing to 9600ft and into what was left of the winter snow, bit cooler up there, and then through the most terrifying road I have ever driven on. Drove along the divide and I mean 2000ft drop one side, and 2000ft drop the other side, no barriers, if you weren't concentrating you could have easily become a piece of the scenery. Never mind made it and dropped down into the Capitol Reef Canyon, pretty awesome, the Freton people (ancients) have left many artifacts [View Full Entry]

12th May, 2009 Bryce Canyon Left Zion NP today headed for Bryce National Park. Steep Climb out of Zion Canyon and through two tunnels, the first 1.1 miles long and only able to fit a large vechile through by shutting off one end and then driving down the middle - yep that was us and we paid $15 for the privilige. Quite breath taking. On this winding steep road we came around a corner and everyone was stopped all over the place taking photos of a herd of Big Horn Sheep on a steep cliff. Then off through Mt Carmel, Hatch, [View Full Entry]

10th & 11th May, 2009 10th May This morning we left Cedar City early and drove up to Zion National Park, which is located in southern Utah. We are Freedom camping again, in the Southern camp ground. If you plan to come over to USA and visit the National Parks they charge an entry fee into each one, around $25 US, but you can buy a year pass for $80 which in our case is a big saving. The parks are brilliant, Rangers on hand, in Zions case they have banned vehicles from entering the park, so run a free shuttle [View Full Entry]

8th May, 2009 Las Vegas Another hottie, should reach 100F and it did + another 3 (103F) Restful day and then all hell broke loose. We booked another show, "Magic's a Drag", should have known, it was helarious, would reccommend to anyone, the Magician is a Drag Queen (quite famous over here), "Cashetta". And she dragged me up on stage, apart from the comedy she is also a very good magician and I still can't work out how she did the trick with me (no not that sort of trick). After the show we visited a number of Casino's along the [View Full Entry]

6th May, 2009 Rest day, just time out today, had a swim, went for a walk and went to a show in the evening. Went to American Superstars, it was great, 5 star impersonators - Micheal Jackson, Christine Aguilira, Elvis, someone McGraw and Rod Stewart along with a great band and dancers. 7th May, 2009 Up early this morning and back over the Hoover Dam into Arizona, heading for Grand Canyon West. Grand Canyon West is in the Hualapai (pronounced wal-a-pie) Indian Nations tribal lands and is home of the Grand Canyon Skywalk. Directions were on par with all others (nil) [View Full Entry]

5th May, 2009 Hoover Dam & Las Vegas Drove up Highway 93 today across the Hoover Dam (Lake Mead), how they built this Dam I have no idea, it is carved into the rock. Must have been pretty dry up here as the tide is out in the Dam. They are building a new 4 lane highway through that area and you will see in the photo's the construction of the bridge over the dam. Then onto Las Vegas, this place hasn't changed, it is alive during the day, but darkness arrives and everyone hits the streets, the atmosphere is amazing. [View Full Entry]

4th May 2009 Kingman, Arizona Well today we put off going to Las Vegas so we could see some more of "Route 66" and we are glad we did. Took off this morning and just drove, up past Valle Vista to Hackberry, what a neat little shop, lots of cars and bits and pieces, then onto Valentine, Truxton, Peach Springs which is in the Hualapai Indian nation and then on up to Grand Canyon Caverns. Went underground 210ft (didn't have to walk - they had a lift) and toured through the underground caverns - they have enough water and food stored [View Full Entry]

3rd May, 2009 Up early and on the way, another fantastic sleep, temps are just right. Headed off up past lake Havasu and then on to Topock where we turned onto the famous Route 66, drove about 36 miles to Oatman, passing a Car run coming our way. Oatman is just the best little town, there where still one hell of a lot of the cars on the run still in town, narrow street and us in our 24ft RV, some guy had to guide us through the street so we didn't hit any of the fantastic cars. It's an old [View Full Entry]
