Rogue River - Bald Eagle, have to learn how to crop photo's
19th June, 2009. Gold Beach, Oregon. Up early this morning, had to be at the mail Boat Landing at 7.30am for check in. Today we went on a Jet boat ride 40 miles up the Rogue River. The Rogue River is 214 miles long and you can take a trip up the river, either 32, 40 or 52 miles. There are also 3 day rafting and canoeing trips. Miserable morning, they said it was mist, I say it was light rain and very overcast, never mind, bit of a delay and we set off in our rain coats and big tarps [View Full Entry]

18th June, 2009. Travel to Gold Beach, Oregon. Across the Yaquima Bay in Newport and on the way this morning, down the coast, a very scenic route, glad we came down this way. First stop (apart from photo opportunities is Seal Rock where you can view the Sea Lions in the worlds largest Sea Cave (everything you do in USA is either the largest, biggest, longest, or smallest in the world - they even have the worlds best chowder in 3 million and five different restaurants). You go down 200 ft in a lift from the top of a cliff into [View Full Entry]

Newport mural - depicting the Coastguard
17th June, 2009. Newport Beach, Oregon. Forgot to mention yesterday, that as you go down the Oregon Coast you see the Giant Redwood forests, yesterday we saw a few samples, they are big, will get some photos later on. Walking shoes on this morning, off for a walk, didn't get far, Craig found a great fishing tackle shop, bought Sam a surf casting rod and reel, so now she has to catch a fish, and a few bits and pieces for oneself, was tempted to go back again this arvo. Back to camp to unload and off for a walk through [View Full Entry]

16th June, 2009. Newport Beach, Oregon Away early again, off down to Newport beach (by the way Kelly we had Oysters for dinner last night). The first part of the trip took us slightly inland, and then back out onto the coast, this is one scenic Highway. The road travels in and out of the coast, beautiful bays and lots of small resort towns (not busy at the moment but in a few weeks time will be booked out). The beaches look great and the weather is starting to get warmer, nice wide beaches. Into Newport and booked into Harbour Village [View Full Entry]

15th June, 2009. Travel to Warrenton, Oregon Up early and on the road, , once we out of the upper Washington we hit the motorway, nice motorway but so many cars and trucks, a nightmare when they are blowing you over the road (never mind), a stop for a look around the factory shops at Centralia (up to 80% off, catches every womens eye), but Normal price + 80% - 80% is still 100%, and half the shops were no longer trading, guess that didn't work. Anyway down through Oledo and then the GPS lost us at Ostrander (funny how you [View Full Entry]

14th June, 2009. Seattle, Washington. Over to Bainbridge Island this morning (about an hour and a quarter away), to board a Ferry for the crossing to Seattle, a 35 minute ride. Not a lot of traffic around, everyone must have been still tucked up in bed. Had a walk around the wharf area, plenty of touristy shops and restaurants mainly serving fish, and a few buskers - nice area. Came across a curiosity shop, well worth a look, they have Walrus penises, two mummified people (from not so long ago either) + a lot of other interesting bits and pieces. Then [View Full Entry]

Looking across to Canada - Vancouver Island
13th June, 2009. Port Townsend, Washington. Another nice day, breakfast and then a walk downtown, walked through the older part of town, old port warehouses etc, lots of restaurants, tourist shops, then down past the marina's and boat repair area's, most of the fishing boats out of the water, looks like they are nearly ready to go back in for the fishing season. The Visitor Center gave us some info on the local Farmers Market so off we went. No bargins here, the Farmers Market was from Dream world, charging prices that were dearer than I have seen anywhere in USA. [View Full Entry]

12th June, 2009 Travel to port Townsend, Washington Big day, up early and on the road by 7.45am, we had decided to travel right through to Port Townsend to put us back on track, to be in Los Angeles by the 8th July, a distance of 371 miles towing a RV. Through Spokane, Moses Lake, Ellensburg, lunch at Cle Elum, into Seattle and onto Edmonds. This is where it all went wrong, we had been travelling through Seattle on the Motorways which were very busy, listening to the GPS when we started going the wrong way (so I thought), never mind, [View Full Entry]

Coeur d' Alene Hotel from the walk around Tubbs Hill
11th June, 2009 Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. Beautiful day here today, woke up to not a cloud in the sky, so on with the shorts and into town, a walk around Tubbs Hill, which is similar to the walk around the Mount, but poorly sign posted so we decided to make our own track (and we had to turn around and go the long way), never mind, good for the fitness. then down to the Coeur d' Alene Hotel and around the longest floating boardwalk in the world (so they claim), plenty of non depression dollars lined up in the Marina. 10th June, 2009. Travel to Coeur d' Alene Well up and away this morning, travelled over the Bitterroot Range, a beautiful area of rivers and valleys, and then coming down to Lake Coeur d' Alene. After a bit of hassle finding the RV camp we booked in, the owners were most helpful, so we had a quick lunch and took off to the "Bucks" knife factory for a tour, bowled in there 2 mins late only to be told we were an hour early - time change at the Idaho boarder, never mind, time to do some shopping.
