Within 50 minutes of leaving the Travelodge we were in the North Terminal lounge - No 1 - very new/very posh and a great way to start the holiday. Managed to play a bit of Travian to stop my warehouses from filling-up :). Our plane was called and we went to the gate - boarding was quick and easy. Dinner was very good on the plane a chicken curry and then it was down to watching 2 or 3 films - Thor/Fast and Furious and Sucker Punch (though they managed to turn the entertainment system off 5 minutes before the end of this.... we'll have to find out what happened). Arrived in Barbabdos at the time expected and apart from leaving my hat on the plane we got through customs/immigration and picked up our bags and ... read more

Ok it's been over a year and it's time for us to head away again - this year it's sunny Barbados (or rainy Barbados at this time of year...). We haven't been since 2007 so it will interesting to see how it's changed. We are staying far up on the West Coast near Speightstown. We will check in today to see if we can get seats even close to one another (with a bit of leg room if possible) - one minute after it opens I'll be online! I've also got the afternoon off to pack and tidy the house so that it doesn't look a complete mess for the people looking after it! - Update 10 minutes after check-in open we have 5 seats in a row - result....... though they do back onto the ... read more

5th/6th/7th August 2010 - Lily Lake Mosquitos On the 5th we got up early and went White Water rafting for a couple of hours then we went for a car ride out on the Chief Josepth Scenic Highway which peaked at about 8,500 ft. Picked up 3 Geocaches on the way. On the 6th we shopped around town (K-Mart), hired a bike (I went for a cycle up Skyline Drive) and walked around scenic Cody (shopped...). We also booked in for a meal at Rib and Chops - for 9 (which was really good - and worth the wait even though we had booked!). Today was the day the balloon festival was supposed to start but unfortunately it rained/was too windy so we played Crazy golf again - watched the free concert in the park (RedElvis ... read more

4th August 2010 - Wild Horses Easy day today - got up and sorted out a couple of extra days in Cody - we won't leave here until Sunday now and then we are heading towards Billings/Little Big Horn - via Yellowstone. We've decided not to book anything and just take whatever we can get. We then booked a tour out to the Wild Horses today and White water rafting for tomorrow. We thought we'd go swimming at the recreation centre in Cody but it was closed for maintenance. So we played minature golf instead - which Matthew won. Then back home for some lunch via Family Dollar which was quite interesting. Lunch was a mix of salads and subs - followed by the Vanilla swirl ice cream. Got some nice shots of the deer nipping ... read more

31st July to 3rd August 2010 Slow slow here we go... Rest day on the 31st - watched TV, washed clothes then took a trip out before tea to Cedarwood Drive - wow views and a half. Unbelievable drive - glad we had the 4x4 - just don't look down - didn't find the Geocache at the top. Then we eat at a nice Italian called Adriatco on Sheridan Drive. On the 1st of August - we went to Buffalo Bill Dam over lunchtime and then had a Sunday lunch - gorgeous roast chicken! Drive out and about - then onto the Cody Night Rodeo (every day during the week over the summer) - this was very entertaining - from the bucking broncos, through the clowns to the bull riding (or falling of the bulls as ... read more

Unfortunately hadn't turned of the alarm on my phone so that went off at 4 am. Excellent - got up and turned it off only for Paul Dolphin to phone at 5 am.... put phone on quiet before throwing it out the window! Everyone woke up about 7 am. So we were in for breakfast around 8 am. First make it yourself waffles excellent! After breakfast we drove into Cheyenne so we could watch the Grand Parade which started at 9.30 and went on for an hour - it was surprisingly good - what a community I know the effort that goes into Downley Day and reckon about 10% of the whole community either appear in the parade or must be invoved in some way. Got some great pictures! After the parade finished we headed over ... read more

Wasn't well in the night - got up at about 1 and couldn't get back to sleep for an hour or two. Don't think it was anything I'd eaten - think it was the heat. Just so hot. Woke up about 6.00 and we were ready for the taxi driver at 6.30 - he was waiting outside and said he'd been there since 5.00. He drove quickly to Newark as he wanted to get back to New York before there was too much traffic. Even stopping for Petrol we were at Newark by 7.00 (which was particularly impressive when we were told 45 minutes to an hour by the hotel staff). Checked bags in @ $25 a bag - but wasn't a surprise. Then into the lounge courtesy of the Black card. Very posh shame I ... read more

Up late today - 8.40 - so very little breakfast left. Catherine hunter/gathered for us and we snacked. Then onto the Dinosaur Museum and tour in Thermopolis. The museum was great including a Supersaurus called "Jimbo" - the tour was even better including a visit to a dig site with both bones and footprints. My first dinosaur dig-site! The ride in the bus was also very entertaining - I think I got some good video. After the tour we went round the shop and then headed on highway 120 over towards Cody. Watching the height on the GPS we touched about 5600 ft at one point before coming down a little into Cody. Cody is a great holiday destination - and the gateway to Yellowstone. We have a duplex booked for about a week and when ... read more

Today was swimming day so after a rather poor breakfast in the Super 8 - get in early folks or there wont be anything left! We headed over to the Star Plunge swimming pool - favoured by Butch Cassidy and Marlon Brando no less! For $50 we could stay all day - even leave and come back, order Pizza etc. It opend at 9 and we were there by about 9.15 - the slides weren't open but the pools were. Thermopolis gets its name from the hot mineral springs - nobody mentions that they tend to be sulphur springs... it's not too bad once you are used to it! It's quite old fashioned but very sweet - the pools are non chemical and hot hot hot. The outside pool was hotter than the air temperature at ... read more

Woke up earlyish @ 6 so thought I’d just turn over for 20 minutes - then at 7.40 when I did wake up we had about 30 minutes to get out and head downtown in Cheyenne for the free Pancake breakfast. Joined the queue - there really were over 10,000 people served in 2 hours! Then we watched the Thunderbirds - great air show. From Cheyenne we headed towards Thermopolis. As soon as you get about 20 miles out of Cheyenne he countryside starts to get a lot more open. We stopped in Douglas the Pioneer museum which was surprisingly interesting. Douglas had housed about 2,500 German and Italian WW2 soldiers from 1943 to 1945. Back in the car we stopped and bought some petrol - which was about 1/3rd the price we pay in the ... read more
