Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Australia Zoo April 5th 2006

Wednesday April 5th Lo from OZ! Late start today, as we’re all feeling a little burnt after the last few days of being really busy. But hell, we’re only 45 minutes away from Australia zoo, and its overcast, so we won’t get burnt any more! We do the short drive with ease, and pull into the zoo. Not too busy here yet…good! The first thing we see that there is a show at 12:00, so we rush over to the venue, and Steve isn’t doing the show…damn, well maybe later at the “agro” show. The show is pretty informative, and shows how the crocs strike in the wild, and they tell you where you should and shouldn’t go. You know crocs can swim 30 km an hour? I didn’t. They're also passionate lovers and very good ... read more

Tuesday April 4th Lo all from OZ We got a fairly early start today. With us staying at the resort overnight we got a free breakfast at one of the restaurants. It was a buffet breakfast, and was pretty good. There was quite the character in there, an old English lady, who was talking to everyone in the restaurant. Especially about her toast, and whether it was hers or yours! We booked an ATV ride, as you only had to be 6 or older to do it, it was booked for 10 am, but we switched it to 9am as we had already eaten. So there we are, getting ready to go on the ATV’s. I’m not sure how Wes is going to do, as he’s never done this before. Kirk, Wes and Paulina get the ... read more

Monday April 3rd Lo all from OZ! Today we got off to an early start, with us getting out of the RV Park around 7:45 am, in order to get to the koala sanctuary by it’s opening at 8:30. This allows us a few hours there, before we catch a high speed ferry to Tangalooma Island to see the wild dolphins. Let me tell ya rush hour traffic in Brisbane is busy, especially when you’re driving a bus! We got to the koala park right at 8:30, and for about 30 minutes we had the place to ourselves, which was really nice! We went off and did the koala photo’s right away, as we couldn’t resist. We got a small male koala, maybe 15 lbs or so. These guys look small and light, but they sure ... read more

Sunday April 2nd Sea world! Today we’re off to Sea World Australia; this theme park is located just north of Surfers Paradise. We’re a little apprehensive about visiting this park on a Sunday, because it may be really busy. Jason booked a Seal encounter yesterday, so at 3:45 today we’re meeting some seals…cool! Infact at this park you can do lots of stuff with the animals…such as 1) be an animal trainer for a day 2) scuba dive with the sharks 3) snorkel with the sharks 4) dive with the seal lions 5) spend 45 minutes with the seals (this is what we did) 6) meet the polar bears - don’t know how that’d go, but it’d be cool There are a few others, but I don’t remember. So we got up, and did the breakfast ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Byron Bay April 1st 2006

Saturday April 1st Lo all from OZ! Not a lot to report today… Today we left Byron Bay, (which I found out today is the “alternative lifestyle” capital of Australia…not that there’s anything wrong with that?) and head up to Surfers Paradise. I was getting a little behind on the blog so we went out in search of a café that has hi-speed internet. We found a little one about 5 minutes away that had a really good breakfast. Jason has some really good French toast, with the rest of us eating eggs and bacon. Surfers Paradise is about 1 hour away from where we stayed, but once we got close to it the traffic really slowed down. There is a huge construction boom going on here, with mega bucks being poured into this town. Surfers ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Port Macquarie March 31st 2006

Friday March 31st Lo all from OZ Well, not a lot to report today, as we spent much of it driving. Our day started off in Port Macquarie where we got up, checked out of our site, and went to a restaurant called the pancake place for breakfast. I’m not sure what our waitress’s problem was but she was a mega B! The food was so-so, definitely not up to the same standards which we’ve been used to having here lately. But the service…man it sucked. After that we got in the RV and went down to the koala hospital. This is a place that’s privately funded whose sole purpose is to rescue and rehab, and ultimately set free koalas. The threats to these cute little guys are mostly caused by humans. Sometimes they’re hit by ... read more

Our plans were to stay an extra day in Seal Rocks but due to some scheduling we just couldn’t do it. Plan B was to get a late checkout which is what we did. After breakfast we went down to the beach where the early morning surf was much calmer than the day before YAY! Wes shouldn’t have ... read more

Wednesday the 29th Paradise found? Well, we left Umina Beach this morning, leaving our very well appointed campsite to head north. Before we left though we had to get the whole fam together and do a bounce session on their huge inflated trampoline. Tell ya spending 15 minutes on that is almost like being on the Stairmaster back home. After getting quite the workout we were off, our next destination Seal Rocks, about 150 km north of here. This area is known for pristine beaches and an abundance of Grey Reef Nurse Sharks. The sharks that look nasty, but are harmless (or so they say.) Our drive up was uneventful; we stopped at hungry jacks (burger king back home) to get Wes some chicken nuggets. You know that even burger king and McDonalds here have beets ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Woy Woy March 28th 2006

Tuesday the 28th Today we’re leaving the Blue Mountain area. It’s a very nice area, just getting a little chilly at night. We’re headed down to the coast to an area 100km north of Sydney called Woy Woy. Our day starts with all of us going down the road to the duck pond to feed the ducks and geese some old bread we have, the ducks and geese here are different than the ones back home in Canada, I think they’re more laid back lol. So we leave our campsite and get on the great western highway, back to Sydney. I think the great western highway goes all the way from Sydney to Perth, which 2000+ kms away. The drive is fairly uneventful, approximately 2 hours with Jason getting lost only a couple of times lol. ... read more
