Lo all from OZ
We got a fairly early start today. With us staying at the resort overnight we got a free breakfast at one of the restaurants. It was a buffet breakfast, and was pretty good. There was quite the character in there, an old English lady, who was talking to everyone in the restaurant. Especially about her toast, and whether it was hers or yours!
We booked an ATV ride, as you only had to be 6 or older to do it, it was booked for 10 am, but we switched it to 9am as we had already eaten. So there we are, getting ready to go on the ATV’s. I’m not sure how Wes is going to do, as he’s never done this before. Kirk, Wes and Paulina get the mini ATV, which is little slower than the one Jason and I get. We get a brief safety lesson, and we’re off. Wes is doing surprisingly well, driving it with confidence, not having any problems at all! The ride lasts about 1 hour, with us covering about 10 kms. We get to ride around dunes; we head over to the wrecks, and
see what they’re all about. Just a real fun ride, all of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. As soon as we’re off Wes wants to go again, lol.
We booked a 12:30 snorkel trip to the wrecks, and just before commencing on the trip we’re informed that they cancelled it, due to wave conditions. The wind and waves were up a bit from the day before, but they weren’t that bad. So they give us back our money (120 $) and we decide as the wrecks are only 70 meters offshore we’ll do the snorkeling from the beach. The walk is about 1 km down the beach, but the sun is blazing. Unfortunately do to the wind being so high you don’t feel the sun beating down on ya, so we did get a little red from this trip. I take Paulina over to the wrecks first, we swim out, and there’s a pretty big current taking us down the beach. We finally get to the wrecks, and there’s some big fish out here. All of a sudden I see something really big swim underneath me, and I’ve had enough…time to head back. On the way back we see about
20 sting rays, swimming on the bottom. Quite the experience. Its Jason’s turn now, and he and Kirk head over. He spends a lot more time over there, and swims in and out of 5 or 6 of the boats. He see’s quite a few fish, even encountering a lion fish. On the way back all of a sudden I see a dorsal fin very close to him, and I see him motioning to me. I think shit; shark and they’re done for. They’re out quite far, maybe 150 feet. It turns out that it was a dolphin, and it swam right up beside Jason, what a lucky guy! The dolphin was there for only a few seconds, in the water beside Jason. It was an amazing experience for him; right these with this beautiful creature. The dolphin was full size, and a couple minutes later we saw it with a small dolphin beside it. Must have been mother and offspring. Unfortunately the camera was off (it turns off after 3 minutes of not using it) and Jason couldn’t get a picture of it, but to him it really was quite the sight, to swim with a wild dolphin in
the ocean. Wow!
After the snorkeling, we headed back to the hotel, to shower and pack up, then headed off to the photo lab to pay 130$ for 9 pictures. Tell ya they really got ya there, total rip off, but what can ya do. We take the 4pm boat back to the mainland and drive up to our campsite.
Tomorrow we’re headed to Australia zoo, hopefully to see Steve Irwin! Can’t wait!
More tomorrow!
