Wednesday April 5th
Lo from OZ!
Late start today, as we’re all feeling a little burnt after the last few days of being really busy. But hell, we’re only 45 minutes away from Australia zoo, and its overcast, so we won’t get burnt any more!
We do the short drive with ease, and pull into the zoo. Not too busy here yet…good! The first thing we see that there is a show at 12:00, so we rush over to the venue, and Steve isn’t doing the show…damn, well maybe later at the “agro” show. The show is pretty informative, and shows how the crocs strike in the wild, and they tell you where you should and shouldn’t go. You know crocs can swim 30 km an hour? I didn’t. They're also passionate lovers and very good mothers. They can only walk over the ground very very slow. So as long as you’re not right near the waters edge you’re pretty safe from crocs. Croc's also are very passionate lovers and very good mothers. These guys here really want people to be educated about Croc's, as they really arent the fearful monsters that most people think they are, and
as long as you follow some simple rules when you're around their environment you'll be ok. The show lasts about 20 minutes, and we’re out of there, and go downstairs to the animal encounter booth. As with most zoos’ here there are many encounters you can do. With this zoo you can even meet the tigers! Unfortunately here you have to be 8 yrs or older to do most of the encounters. That left us with Harriet the 175 year old Galapagos tortoise, but that one only had 2 spaces left, so we passed on it. We went and saw most of the other exhibits, like the venomous snakes, the wombats, etc. then we were off to the agro show, agro was featured on a couple of crocodile hunter shows Argo’s a big croc, who’s always out to get ya when you’re in his enclosure. Unfortunately no Steve here either, ah well…
We went over to the animal photo booth, and got photos with the kids and with Jason and I with a big snake…kind of cool and good photos. There is also a green screen photo area where I got a picture with Steve and a wombat. The
kids got one with Steve and an elephant. We grabbed lunch at the one of the restaurants here and went out to wander around. When we stopped to take a picture of a kookaburra… low and behold Steve shows up on his bike with his little guy, cool! After that encounter we went off to see the wombats, where a girl took one out on a leash for a walk. The kids got to pet it, which was nice. We also met a guy wandering around with some sort of lizard, which we all got to pet. After a short stop at the gift shop we got out, our total stay a few hours. Back on the road again, headed north ending up in Maroochy. After stopping there, we went out for a little walk to find dinner, and found an excellent place that has really good fish and chips. We’re gonna head further north tomorrow.
