"A good marriage would be between a blind wife and a deaf husband". ~ Montaigne Happy anniversary honey! How does a couple celebrate almost 11 years of togetherness and three children? Well they head to Playa del Carmen and get married. And that's what we did 5 years ago today, Jan. 10, 2008. (Thank you Cindy for getting the ball rolling on that one!) It's so nice to be back here to celebrate our anniversary. It's also nice to be here with Ray & Pat who were at our wedding and having Blaine here because he couldn't make it but wanted to be there with us & of course the girls who have fond memories of that day, even wee Ava (mind like a steel trap). So here we are, together 16 years and married a ... read more

"Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be."~ A. Lincoln Well we've made up our minds to be as happy as we can be, based on the good time we had on our first day here. If I had to use one solid word to convey our first day, it would be -- FANTASTICO! After lunch at Yan Ten's we sat around oceanside for a few hours, laughing, talking, taking in the view, and enjoying some amazing drinks & tasty food! Oh that big first margarita was to die for....ahhhh. 2for1 Corona and margaritas. Some of us had the chicken kebobs with jasmine rice & salad, some had chicken quesadillas, and nachos. It was great, but the best part was being together & finally showing Blaine & Greg Playa in ... read more

"Weather's here, wish you were beautiful." Jimmy Buffet Buenos Dias!!! (Good morning) We're HERE!!! Oops meant to say weather's beautiful, wish you were here! :D Well this little band of merrymakers arrived in Cancun on Tuesday morning at 9:45 am (10:45 Ottawa time). Our flight left on time at 6 am. Nothing like getting on a plane when it's dark and arriving to sunshine & heat and Playa alive with music with the sounds of birds in the air. We had to be up and at 'em in the wee hours of the night to be at the airport a little after 4 am. As I've said before, there's no reason to ever be dragged out of bed at that hour unless you are going on a tropical vacation. Since most restaurants are closed at the ... read more

"A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one "Year" and out the other" ~ Happy New Year all! SO how are the New Year’s resolutions coming along? We're going to have to put our resolutions on hold temporarily as we are heading back to Playa del Carmen (MX) again in a few days, thanks in good part to Playa Beach Condos & Villas, who I can't believe I've been writing travel articles for almost 2 years now! (Tonya thanks for letting me write my "tongue & cheek" travel blogs for your company!) OK I hear a collective groan; yes another trip to Playa, but hey now, be fair, I did work (er...write for it! :) And for those of you not traveling to warm destinations this winter, you may think it cruel to crow ... read more

Travel blog is a fantastic way to chronicle your trips, but unfortunately when people leave comments, they aren't all that visible unless you go searching for them at the bottom. So, I thought I'd post them all in one place on this blog. Thanks for taking the time to leave your comments. It's nice to hear from you while away from home. Guest comments are listed in bold, and my reply follows in italics. Here you go! Sally. I just wanted you to know that I truly enjoyed reading your Paris blogs - just finished last one while eating my peanut butter and jelly sandwich - and as always had a few LOL moments. You are truly a wonderful writer - with a nice blend of detail, wit and sarcasm. Wondering if you have ever watched ... read more

"On the keyboard of life, always keep one finger on the escape key." ~ Survival of the Fittest - Part 3 (I will apologize in advance for the long blog; it just took on a life of its own. So put on your seatbelt if you decide to read on!) Four letters to describe my experience at the Montreal Airport. "OMFG". (Oh & sorry mom about the "F" in OMFG, but it was necessary given the circumstances!) Well the game was on. After our Paris flight landed, everyone rushed to get off the plane like there was a Boxing Day sale at Future Shop. We hoofed it into the terminal where we lined up for customs, which now is a bunch of kiosks, where you have to scan your own passport, scan your own customs form, ... read more

“When you're in jail, a good friend will be trying to bail you out. A best friend will be in the cell next to you saying, 'Damn, that was fun'.” G. Marx And I've got to sum up my trip by saying, "Damn, that was fun"! I had a fantastic, phenomenal time in Paris, and furthermore, it was great reconnecting with my old friend Marth, & reminiscing about the "good old days". It was also a wonderful opportunity to make some new "good old days" memories that we will laugh about in the future, and that will live on for a lifetime in my memory. We forget that every day we have, will eventually become a "good old day". Everyone should have that one friend that you can talk nonsense with, and that nonsense is respected! ... read more

"Impossible is a word only to be found in the dictionary of fools". Napoleon Bonoparte The last few days I made it my mission to get around this big city which I thought would be "impossible", but I did it!! (Obviously I do not have a fool's dictionary!) I have to say, love is in the details here and much of that credit for the details has been given to the city planner Haussmann, who was hired by Louis Napoleon III to modernize Paris. By the mid 1800's, Paris was suffocating; the population had more than doubled, it was unsanitary, dangerous and congested. So Haussmann, created new roads, public parks, ornaments and most importanly to squash disease from spreading they installed new sewage systems. He completed transformed Paris from a medieval city to the magnificent, "City ... read more

"Wherever you go, go with all your heart". Confucius Well I tried to obey "Confucius" and come to Paris with all of my heart, but I do miss my girls & Al. Who wouldn't miss them, they are cool people to be around. (And Kelsey too!) Allan is managing the fort at home, with one kid sick, winter boots to buy for the girls, lunches, dinners, extra-curricular activities, homework...well my hat's off to him. And he keeps sending me upbeat emails to enjoy myself & not worry about things at home. I am running out now to get a plaque engraved, "Husband & Father of the Year". (And thanks to nana for coming down to help out a sick girl)l But that aside, this is an AMAZING city to visit. Majestic buildings, elegant boulevards, boutiques, cafes, ... read more

"I cook with wine. Sometimes I even add it to the food." W.C. Fields Ahh food & drink in Paris...It's a decadent treat dining out two times a day & best of all, I don't have to cook or do dishes! I don't usually eat this much or so often, so it's an adjustment but darn it, I'll take one for the team :) Sometimes I think I hear Miss Piggy's voice ringing in my ears saying, "Never ever eat more than you can lift"! I am also enjoying the rare treat of having a glass of Champagne. Real authentic Champagne!! I could picture my sister Cindy & I being here together, sipping the good stuff! She (my sister) loves the good stuff too! After a bit of fruit in the morning, we saunter out for ... read more
