We've moved condos today and it's pretty spectacular. We are in the middle of the condo building and have probably the best view of the place. We have a rooftop terrace with a hanging day bed, loungers, BBQ, outdoor kitchen. The decor and the furniture is so cool & funky. Here's some pics, including our massage therapist who showed up today. I tell ya, Monica can work miracles with her hands. All for $20 Cdn plus tip for over an hour of heavenly massage. Lara by the way gave her permission for me to post the massage picture! I have a blog coming from our day yesterday! Stay tuned!! Sal See below for pics. Oh and you can click on them to make them bigger!... read more

Here's the video Al shot of us swimming with the turtles yesterday. Note the long green fish who attach to the sea turtle's back feeding off the algae. The turtles pay NO attention to them, or us snorkelers for that matter. (PS not an easy thing to do; shoot video while trying to fight the current & stay afloat!) More pics of our day are attached. ‘Zippity doo dah, zippity a, My oh my what a wonderful day. Plenty of sunshine coming my way, Zippity doo dah, Zippity a!’ (Song of the South) Well Wednesday was a 'zippidy doo dah' day to take a trip to Akumal, approximately 30 minutes from Playa. Akumal means “place of the turtles”, and is also known for its beautiful beaches, serene location and quiet beauty. However, it's more known as being a safe haven for sea turtles year round because they are protected by a barrier reef where they can breed, and eat sea grasses and jelly fish in the shallow bay. The snorkeling is fantastic, seeing the reef and all the marine life that lives there. So there we were in Akumal taking in her wondrous beauty. We have been here before and thoroughly enjoyed ... read more

OK...you all back from grabbing a coffee & a piece of cake? So this is what a day pass costs for Xel-Ha Waterpark in Tulum. We paid $79CDN per adult, and half price for kids up to 12. (Kids under 4 are free or under "40 inches" is also free.) I will tell you this is the best money you will spend at a waterpark. This is what is included: all your meals and drinks, zip lining, rope crossing, cliff jumping, lazy river tubing, snorkeling gear, towels, lockers, bicycles, lifejackets, inner tubes, showers, changing areas, tropical paths, floating bridge and the "aforementioned" security bag. (And so much more but I am repeating myself). Swimming with the dolphins, snuba diving, and the spa are extra. The spa looks very peaceful and they apply Mayan techniques for relaxation. ... read more

OK, take a deep breath...I know it's going to be darn hard to believe, but we were all actually well enough to have an adventure on Monday! And our "adventure" wasn't teetering out of our sick beds to go for breakfast!! We were never really sick as a group all togther; it was more a case of one or two not feeling well at the same time making it difficult to take a day trip. (Speaking of breakfast, we did make it out to the cafe next door to enjoy some tasty pancakes, French toast, eggs, fruit & granola, fresh juice etc). It's always such a nice time of day to sit and just look out at the ocean and admire all that she is...powerful, strong, determined, beautiful, colorful, vibrant, life-giving, sustaining and willing to give ... read more

Let me start by saying we're all feeling better! YAY. More to come on our adventure to a big amazing waterpark yesterday. Attached is a hilarious video (in our opinion) of Greg and two local musicians we hired to play us a few songs at dinner last week. They were really good, and the songs they played were very touching but let's just say, Greg was a bit more into the nacho chips than the music! It became funnier when his dad asked him to move out of the way so he could film the musicians. So Greg crouched down but managed to still eat & drink! PS see the look on Greg's face at the very end when I suggested we should "get another song"...! (Greg can do a straight face like nobody's business.) For ... read more

Buenas noches guys! It's absolutely glorious today, tres caliente (hot) (I should have that phrase on repeat how hot and beautiful it is!). I think we could skip the stove & fry our eggs on the sidewalk. So after being beat from the feet up from the last few days, I slept all the way through the night. But guess who woke feeling sick? If you guessed "me", pass go and collect $200 . I took one of the anti-nausea pills & felt better in a bit. I decided lying in bed was not going to fix anything, so I went up to the loungers on the roof and I lasted five minutes due to the strong sun. Moving under the shade is now ideal, and the view over the ocean is specky-tacular!! Yesterday Blaine, Greg, ... read more

"It is not length of life, but depth of life." ~ Ralph Waldo Emmerson Well folks, we are hanging in there. Lara was next in line to get the flu, so it was another evening/night of me tending to someone sick. I am ready to take off the nurse's cap thank you very much. She's not nearly as ill as Rory was in the sense of vomiting and it's 7 am and she's sleeping which is a good sign. I feel queasy but so far no real signs I'm getting it. While I may not be sick, I don't look any hell being up a few nights in a row, but nothing a ball cap & sunglasses can't hide!!. Right now I barely rise when I hear the girls get up because they are feeling sick, ... read more

"Why does the ocean rock the moon to sleep every night? So the sun will wake and kiss the beach." ~ Top o' the mornin' to you all! Well, another totally glorious morning to wake up here in Playa. We're grabbing morning by the biscuits everyday here I'll tell ya! However, you can't have a rainbow without a little rain sometimes, and by that I mean we are having the most wonderful time, but the "rain" as it were is that a few of us have the flu. As you know, the flu is being felt all over the world, and it seems to be felt here too. Planes are flying into here everyday with people with flu symptoms and it eventually makes its way to us despite it being a tropical spot. Pat was feeling ... read more

So getting back to our wedding here in Playa del Carmen (after the previous blog!) Yep we tied the old knot here in Playa on Jan. 10, 2008. I will say, it was by far one of THE best days of my life, next to meeting Al in the first place, and then when we found out we were expecting, to the births of each of our great gals, Lara Raquel (13), Rory Charlotte (11) and Ava Carly (7). Because we waited so long to get married, we knew exactly what we wanted (small), and on a beach - HELLO Playa! We wanted to write our own wedding vows, and have the girls in the ceremony. Lara walked me down the beach, Rory was the flower girl, and Ava, the ring bearer(ess)! She was so cute ... read more
