Colorado - September - October, 2016

Our trip to revisit the Rocky Mountain National Park in 2016 was only a week long from September 27th through October 4th but was just the right length for us. We had first visited RMNP in 2006 at about the same time of year, though a little later. At that time, we were not able to hike any of the higher elevation trails due to weather closing the Trail Ridge Road, so we wanted to try one more time to see those high peaks. This time we were luckier and were able to get in a good bit of hiking at the 10,000 to 12,500 foot level. In addition to RMNP, we also were able to visit the Colorado and Dinosaur National Monuments.

We flew into Denver and drove to Grand Lake on the western side of the park. We spent three nights there before driving on to Fruita, CO, for two nights where we did a bit of hiking in the Colorado NM. Then on to Vernal, UT, for a visit to Dinosaur NM for one night before driving on to Salt Lake City where we spent the last night before our flight home.

On the following pages, I'll describe a bit about the hikes we did in each place as well as posting pictures from our travels. As usual, clicking on a picture will take you to a gallery for that page where most pictures will have a caption that will give a bit of information about the location.
