We booked our Whitsundays trip when we first got to Aus, it's the one trip we were looking forward to the most!! We just prayed the weather would be nice... the first day it poured down :( we were not happy!! but for most part of the first day we were just sailing. The sea was quite rough and we had to cling onto the high side of the boat, the other side buried in the water, the boat was literally on its ear!! The waves crashed over the side of the boat and we were soaked. We never imagined having to wear our hoody and raincoat on the Whitsundays!! Even so we got to learn a bit about 'proper' sailing and it was all hands on deck to get the sails up... well maybe just ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Great Barrier Reef October 28th 2010

Well today was possibly one of the best days of our lives! Diving on the Great Barrier Reef you can't really beat it! It definately lived up to our expectations! Our boat Passions of Paradise was boss aswell! We left at 7.30 and it took us 2 hours to get out to the reef!! Hayley thought she might be a sick little sea dog but she lasted just fine! The first place we got to was an area of the Reef called Michealmas Cay a sandbank island surrounded by coral reefs... this meant it was time for us to dive!! We put on our bright blue smurf suits that where apparently 'stinger suits' because its stinger season how reassuring, and got kitted up with all our flippers and rediculously heavy oxygen tank! We had a briefing ... read more

Oceania October 26th 2010

Well to start the day we got picked up at a sickening hour by an very overly entusiatic guide named 'Bill', n yes he had that lovely American accent that doesn't grate on us at all :/ we know it's his job to tell us about the sights but 2 hours of Bill's californian style commentry was slowly killing us!! So we flew off the bus to stretch are legs and douse ourselves in mozzy spray ready for the jungle!! :) First we did a lovely river cruise to spot the crocs n we saw 2 biggies named Scarface n Nelson who defo weren't happy to see us!! Scarface did a death roll by the boat... in other words DO ONE!! We then headed up the windy roads to the jungle which looked the spit of ... read more

Oceania October 24th 2010

We headed up to Port Douglas to see the famous 4 mile beach! and of course more importantly to find a job and top up our funds! We found a job in the first few days as house keepers and for the next 2 weeks it seemed like all we did was work work work! but that was the idea! Port Douglas was a really pretty place but there wasn't a lot going on. The beach was gorgeous like something off a desert island with hardly anybody around! We did plan to walk or ride a bike the whole 4 miles but never got round to it! We hoped we would see a croc on the beach as there were loads of warning signs but no such luck the most scary thing we saw was a ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Brisbane September 21st 2010

Well we arrived in Brisbane after a hellish 14 hour flight, we got the air train to our hostel in the city cente which lucky for us was right across the road from the train station, as we didn't fancy trekking around with our backpacks on for any longer! As soon as we got the the hostel we went to bed to sleep off the jet lag! Later on that night we went for a walk around the botanic gardens by the river which where lovely after that we went back to bed for more sleep! The next day we got up early and went and had a wander around brisbane which we soon discovered was very expensive even our trusty maccies! Or 'maccas' as they like to call it over here! On the saturday we ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Australia Zoo September 21st 2010

When we thought about booking this trip we instantly added Australia Zoo to our things to do list coz we are both such big kids!! So excited to find it was just a short (ish) bus journey from Brizzy!! Well what can I say... this zoo shits all over chester zoo!! Even though it rained we still had a boss day, we got to feed the Elephants and Kangaroo's :-) the Roo's are dead friendly come right over to you but not scary at all!! We were tempted to put the baby wallaby in our bag though! The highlight of the day was holding our new friend 'Slater' the Koala, literally the cutest thing ever... even if he did have a nasty stench of fruity B.O. he still got a cuddle of us!! I'll never forget ... read more

Middle East September 18th 2010

Well we arrived in Dubai safely after a rather sad goodbye all round at the airport! But we where extremely excited about what the next 7 months would behold! So with our super nerdy backpacks and trainies we set out to see the world!! 7 hours later our lovely emirates flight landed us in Dubai, we were in the sweltering 30 degree heat at 7 in the morning! Even the airport was beautiful so clean and shiny, to give you an idea of how big it was it took us 15 minutes on a bus to get from the plane to the actual building! Getting a taxi to the hotel included a few hairy moments, the drivers love to drive fast, rediculously close, and don't indicate! Me and Hayley decided I definatley wouldn't be able to ... read more
