Well today was possibly one of the best days of our lives! Diving on the Great Barrier Reef you can't really beat it! It definately lived up to our expectations! Our boat Passions of Paradise was boss aswell! We left at 7.30 and it took us 2 hours to get out to the reef!! Hayley thought she might be a sick little sea dog but she lasted just fine! The first place we got to was an area of the Reef called Michealmas Cay a sandbank island surrounded by coral reefs... this meant it was time for us to dive!!
We put on our bright blue smurf suits that where apparently 'stinger suits' because its stinger season how reassuring, and got kitted up with all our flippers and rediculously heavy oxygen tank! We had a briefing about all the do's and don't the most important thing to remember though was to BREATHE! How hard can it be! So we jumped off the back of the boat and went down only about a meter or so at first untill we got used to breathing properly and it was abit weird at first! After that it was all the way down to
the gorgeous coral reefs, where we saw everything! First of all was the turtle which we really wanted to see! He was sitting in the coral keeping himself to himself looking rather grumpy untill our dive instructor hand fed him some coral! Then we seen nemo the clown fish, a stingray, lots of other gorgeous fish and coral, and a massive clam that opened and closed apparently these things are like 80 years old! The dive went so quickly before we knew it we had to get out! After that we swam over to the sandbank which was surrounded by gorgeous turqoise sea, to snorkel, the swim from the boat the the island was a lot further than we anticipated... resulting in us both being very out of breath when we eventually got there! We had also been warned by the people on the boat that when we went to the island if we went anywhere past the roped area we would get an on the spot $7000 marine fine!! This definately was not in our budget so we played by the rules haha. Snorkelling by the island we saw lots of other pretty fish and more stingrays! Then we
went back to the boat for are buffet lunch which we where in need of!
Later on in the afternoon we went to another reef to snorkel again, this one was just right in the middle of the ocean you couldn't see any land and parts of it where really really deep so it was abit scary! But we got in anyway and it was definately worth it we seen loads more gorgeous coral and most importantly what we really wanted to see the SHARK! It wasn't quite as big as jaws but it was a shark!!!! I spotted it at first and tried to point to hayley to show her but she didn't notice so I somehow managed to learn to talk through a snorkel and started shouting shark shark!haha it went by so quickly though we hardly managed to get a good picture of it but you can see it roughly in one of the pictures! Once again our time in the water flew by and it was time to get out again, after that it was time to go back to Cairns, it was an amazing day that we'll both remember forever but it went far
to quickly!
