We booked our Whitsundays trip when we first got to Aus, it's the one trip we were looking forward to the most!! We just prayed the weather would be nice... the first day it poured down 😞 we were not happy!! but for most part of the first day we were just sailing. The sea was quite rough and we had to cling onto the high side of the boat, the other side buried in the water, the boat was literally on its ear!! The waves crashed over the side of the boat and we were soaked. We never imagined having to wear our hoody and raincoat on the Whitsundays!!
Even so we got to learn a bit about 'proper' sailing and it was all hands on deck to get the sails up... well maybe just the men, while we sat and watched/clung on for dear life!
We anchored at Nara Inlet for the night where you could jump off for a swim but since we had bin soaked all day and frozen in the wind so we gave it a miss 😉 There was a mix of double and singles but I think we drew the short straw as
our 'double' was tiny!! The only way to describe it was like sleeping ina cupboard for 2 nights and everywhere you walk you seem to bang your head. Although we anchor in a quiet and still place the boat still rocks so the travel sickness tablets definately came in handy!!
We were up at 5.30 the next morning and headed off at 6 am!! I think we were sleep walking for the first few hours!! We haven't seen that time of the morning...ever!!
We stopped off in tongue bay where we saw loads of little turtles swimming round the boat!
We had to do a bushwalk (uphill in the heat!) to get to whitehaven bay lookout but it was more than worth it!! the views from the lookout were amazing then we headed down onto the beach... we forgot our stinger suits so we couldn't relax and have a proper swim 😞 but we had a paddle and there was lots of stingrays swimming around your feet. As you can see from the pics it's an amazing place to visit, the whitest sand and bluest water I have ever seen! Its apparently the purest sand in the world
and it was sooo soft!
We got back to the boomerang and sailed to a different spot 'luncheon bay' around hook island where we jumped off to do some snorkeling 😊
Next we went to manta ray bay in the dingy to do some more snorkelling, the reef is much clearer here with brighter corals.
After making a huge feast for us the crew took us to a small sandbank off langford reef to watch the sunset... with nibbles and goon of course :D
We anchored in stonehaven for the night before another 6am get up to snorkel in caves cove... the sun wasnt out yet so as you can imagine it was bloody freezing!! good way to wake us up.
We made our way back to Airlie Beach and sunbathed on the deck... we didn't want to get off the boat we had a really good trip!! would defo recommend the whitsundays to anyone.
