17th August 2008 - A Lusty Love Affair with Long Johns We all woke up with a bit of a hangover this morning. Poor Suze felt the worst but still kindly offered to take me and Amy to a shopping mall so we could get some thermals for NZ. 16th August - Hello Suze! Me and Amy are so excited today because Suzanne who I used to live with at the bungalow, and who now lives in Melboure, is coming to stay in our hostel tonight so that we can hit the town! It was so lovely to see a friendly face and someone you actually know and havent just met for the first time. 15th August 2008 - Rainy Days and Chocolate Eli came and met us at our hostel in the morning and we got the tram into the city. We had a look around the botanical gardens and then got lunch at a sandwich shop down one of the lanes. Our main agenda was to buy some warm clothes for New Zealand which we are due to go to in a few days...we sidetracked at Queen Victoria Market which is awesome! 14th August 2008 - Penguin Parade! On Philip Island everyday without fail about 500 Little Penguins come ashore at approx 6pm each night and burrow into the sand dunes for the night....and each day approx 500 hundred visitors come and sit quietly to watch them..... This was the main highlight of our tour today - to watch the penguin parade as it is known! It was very good to watch the penguins but a bit too commercial for my liking. 13th August 2008 - Great Ocean Road We got picked up in a mini van from our hostel early in the morning for our day tour. Our first stop was Bells Beach which is a very famous surfing beach in the summer as the waves are collosal! We also had a quick stop at the lighthouse that was used in the kids tv programme Round The Twist - anyone remember that! I used to watch it loads! Neighbours Overload! Today we did the Neighbours Day Tour! Poor Amy doesnt even watch Neighbours - isn't she a lovely sister :) Our first stop was Erinsborough High School (an actual school), so we stood outside with a fake sign and took photos. Next stop was Ramsey Street which is teeny tiny! There is a Security Officer there 24/7 to protect the people that actually live on the street. *SINGS - Neighbours...everybody needs good neighbours....* Today we got the tram into town and got off at Federation Square. We popped into the Information Centre there and were recommended the free City Tram to give us a feel for Melbourne City and also to try out The Lanes walk. We did the lanes walk first as we wanted to get some lunch and apparently there are plenty of lovely places to have lunch on the walk! 10th August 2008 - Good Morning Melbourne We got up in the early hours of the morning and had to run to catch the train to take us to the airport. It pulled up just as we got to the platform (we had run the whole way!). The train to the airport only took 10 minutes! How good is that! And then the whole plane journey went really smoothly. 9th August - Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb! We went into the city to check out some of the shops and then walked up to the Sydney Opera House to take some more photos. We walked through the Royal Botanical Gardens around the harbour to get to Mrs Maguires Point. The best place to get the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House in the same photo. 8th August - Poor Karen!! :( Another early morning (they don't even phase us anymore) we met Karen in the toilets before heading out to the pick up point for the day tour. Karen looked exhausted - last night while me, Amy and Eli were at the hostel bar she had been in an Irish Pub down the road and two guys had joined her and her mates and offered to take a photo of them - while the photo was being taken the other guy put his jacket over Karen's bag and stole her purse and her camera from [View Full Entry]
