Melbourne - DAY ONE

10th August 2008 - Good Morning Melbourne

We got up in the early hours of the morning and had to run to catch the train to take us to the airport. It pulled up just as we got to the platform (we had run the whole way!). The train to the airport only took 10 minutes! How good is that! And then the whole plane journey went really smoothly. We touched down at Tullermarine Airport in Melbourne just over an hour later.

We got the bus to our hostel 'Cooee's' which is in St Kilda, a 20 minute tram ride from Melbourne city centre. We had been recommended Cooee's and we could instantly see why. It had a lovely friendly communal area and a fire was burning in the corner (in a fire place!). There were nice comfy sofas dotted around too.

We were so hungry after check in that we headed to the Pint on Punt pub in St Kilda for a cheap roast dinner and then wandered round the shops in St Kilda. There are lots of gorgeous cafes here....there are far too many cake shops though....too much tempatation! We both had a cherry pie in one cafe and I was in heaven! Best I have EVER had!

We also walked down to the pier and through St Kilda gardens! Very nice!
