Went camping with the MRA to the Great Escape Rally held near Marrabel, South Australia. The weather was outstanding, great friends, good food and a bit of wine with conversation around the campfire. Christened the new tent which was a breeze to erect, on the perfectly sized drop sheet that left just the right amount of room to slip off the shoes and store supplies. Probably went to bed a little late, but fun was had by all. At 4am one of the local feral cats knocked over some gear at a neighbours tent which had me startled, but was able to get back to sleep pretty quickly. After packing up we went over to Clare for the annual food and wine festival. Tried Annies Lane but the loud music was a bit much for pre-midday. ... read more

Went camping on The Roaming Swagman MRA Rally, held at Melrose in the mid north of South Australia. We arrived on Friday evening and had the tents setup just after dark. We enjoyed a fabulous Mussamon Curry (even if I say so myself) and a few wines by the campfire. Great discussion and not a very late night considering. After a fabulous breakfast we headed off on our motor bikes over to Peterborough to investigate the Steam Train museum and visit the motorcycle museum. The weather was quite hot in Melrose but atleast 8 degrees cooler in Peterborough. We went through Orroroo and found a Giant Red Gum tree that was estimated to be around 500 years old. It had a circumference of almost 11m at the base. We headed back for a late lunch and ... read more

Final Day, you guessed it, breakfast was amazing. I sat in the central area today, even walk to all types of food. There was no cooked salmon, nor smoked salmon today. Not happy Jan. I checked out of the hotel, with the bill added to my card in Australian dollars - nice. Big and small bag in tow, I head off to the training in the convention centre. Training went well, and we covered almost all areas I was interested in, however the last two items were just demo only rather than fully configured on our own laptops. Something to setup once I get home I guess. I repack my bags putting all cables into the luggage bag, leaving the two laptops and external drives in my shoulder bag. I get changed into travel clothes, and ... read more

Breakfast was outstanding as usual. I got to sit over near the juice station, so had to trek for the fruit and pancakes. They are getting used to me. seems that if I leave my spoon in my coffee cup, they wont clear away all my stuff - a trick I learnt from watching the table selection girl that directs you to your table upon entering the food hall. She will confirm the table is ok, then pick up the spoon and put it in the cup, and walk away. Day two of the training - today we will have a full day with the software, installing and configuring, very worthwhile. I learnt a lot, created a lot, got into trouble and out again as required. Getting the hang of running the VM, and even after ... read more

Good evening all, well here I am, all rugged up in my monogrammed robe because the airconditioner wont go any hotter. last night I slept with the doona up round my ears as I left the aircon on all night. I must have rolled over a dozen times as the doona was a shambles this morning, with me cocooned in the middle somewhere. I nearly had to ring for someone to help me untangle me out of the twisted enwrapment of warm duck down. I had intentions of cracking out the ironing board to make myself really look the part for the first day of business. However, after realised that after having a shower there might not be enough time, what with dressing for breakfast, having breakfast, then changing into work gear and heading down to ... read more

The day is a cracker, weather perfect, humid and 28 no rain. I take a short 15 minute shower under a shower head the size of a dinner plate, put on a tshirt and head down to breakfast. The breakfast buffet is outstanding, leaving nothing to want for. The girl asked if i wanted to sit in or outside.... bahaha. To give an indication of size, it was 67 steps from my table to the juice bar, with around 400 glasses laid out in perfect alignment, and my table only around half way across the atrium. Three courses later I roll out of the buffet and return to the room to gather my things. down at reception my tour bus awaits, as we head off to the Batu caves. The humidity is really kicking in and ... read more

The flight to Malaysia was good, easy check in, easy boarding and seating. Was delighted to find the flight was 2 hours less then expected, so arrived earlier than I thought. Watched two movies and some sitcoms after a short nana nap after takeoff. Must have been that before flight drink that kicked in. The three next to me were taking photos on the plane, many out the window but some inside. The flash would go off and it was interesting to see that every awake passenger looked up in unison and thought wtf. Not something one expects to see on a plane flight, rather unnerving for such a simple thing. It is nice though when one of these larger planes take off and land, without the massive roar of the engines and violent acceleration and ... read more

The weather gave us relief from 40+ degree days, so what else to do but take in some of the local wineries. We are so lucky to have nearby wineries amongst rolling hills, sunswept plains and cool lakes. For me January is a month of self imposed max 1 glass per week, so going designated driver was a no brainer. We headed for Langhorne Creek and first stop was Lake Breeze. A nice little venue a few k's out of town and down a narrow fenced flat topped levee to a dirt carpark (had a few nervous moments however we ventured in). Big trees offered shade for our chariot while we sampled. We joked the narrow driveway would keep tasting visitors honest. Back into town and stopped at Cleggett Wines (gravel carpark no trees). A wise ... read more

Flew to Port Lincoln for a 3 day weekend and went on a 'Swim with the Tuna' adventure. We boarded the twin decked catamaran for a liesurely 15 minute cruise out to the tuna pontoon. This is a 45m double collar ring floating just to the south of Boston Island, and is equiped with all you could want even a postbox, changerooms, deli and warm freshwater showers. Below in one of the sectioned off pools of the pontoon were around 30 tuna, weighing up to 70kg. We changed into the wetsuits, (wet)boots and (wet)gloves, donned some goggles with snorkel and entered the tuna pool. Exposed fingers look like fish, so are good to have covered and away from view. In the water you floated about looking into the depths, while small 20cm uninvited fish that have ... read more

What an awesome experience, today I went skydiving at SA Skydiving, Langhorne Creek near Lake Alexandrina. It was a tandem jump I won as a prize in a raffle, and wasnt going to give it up for any reason. Its been on my list of things to do for a long time. Pete my tandem jumping buddy was fantastic, making all stages of the preparations and flight up to 10 thousand feet a breeze. The initial shock of jumping out of the plane was replaced by an overwhelming rush of excitement. I accepted Pete's offer to do a backflip out the plane. I had trouble initially working out where i was, the adrenalin was overwhelming. The 10 second freefall was exhilerating and the pull of the chute was abrupt. My body was in recovery mode from ... read more
