Brad and I ventured to Cambodia shortly after his arrival. We booked a bus through a travel agent on Soi 11. The ride ended up being around 9 to 11 hours by the time it was all said and done with stops, border crossings and getting transport on the other side (even though we were told we'd have a 4 person car waiting for us) into Sieam Reap. Surprisingly I slept the whole time on the bus. The border was a little hectic but we managed to make it through without falling victim to the exchange money scam or any others for that matter. We had a guy guiding us through the whole time and we ended up hopping on his bus for 100 baht on the other end of the border crossing. We didn't really ... read more

Ton Sai has been amazing. I ended up staying for two weeks by the time it was all said and done. The beginning was a little rocky (no pun intended). Unfortunately, I was craving Pizza and ended up with food poisoning that put me out of climbing for 4 days, but I was lucky enough to meet some people who checked in on me, it means a lot when you are traveling alone believe me. There was even an awesome group of girls who knew Acupuncture and treated me. I'm convinced they did wonders for me, cause the next day I was recovering smoothly :) After the nightmare that was food poisoning I was feeling better and ready to climb. My routine ended up being, wake up around 8:30 AM, grab some breakfast, put the iPod ... read more

I made it through 10 days of noble silence at my Vipassana Mediation course. It was pretty intense. I found it very challenging but worth it. I don't want to describe too much as I don't want to project any of my experiences on someone who has not yet gone through the course. All I have to say is it was worth it. The facilities were clean, the food was very good and the meditation practice itself if awesome. I was able to sit still and focus while in the center, now I have to take that diligence into the real world. I also met some amazing new friends from all around the world. We shared a cab back to Khao San Road after Vipassana was over, had some laughs and ate a wonderful dinner together. ... read more

I took a 12 hour sleeper train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok. It was a blast. I met some really cool people, we watched a movie to pass the time and within a few minutes my seat transformed into a full bed for the rest of the ride. The train is the way to go. Just make sure you get lower bunk, sleeper with AC and you are good to go. I had a list of things I wanted to see in Bangkok and around. The floating markets and Ayutthaya. I booked 2 tours from Khao San Road after doing a bit of price comparison. The Floating Market tour was a 1/2 day and was pretty cool. The place is crawling with tourists, dare I say there are more foreigners than Thais. We arrived and hopped ... read more

We love Pai seems to be the theme in this small hippy town. We took a mini bus from Chiang Mai 3 hours to Pai. I was very luck to get to sit in the front since I get car sick. I was also very lucky to have a driver that was slow on the turns, so it never became a problem. When we arrived we walked around looking for a place to stay and ended up at Riverside. They are very nice AC rooms, 3 people 600 B. not too bad split between us. It's definitely a place where walking around will get you the best deal. The first night we spent just getting acclimated to the area. Everything is in walking distance which is nice. This place has a really chill vibe. For some ... read more

This is a short little post on my Thai Cooking course I took in Chiang Mai. A group of 6 of us went to a cooking course with Baan Thai cooking school. This place was 700 B for an evening class making 4 courses. It ended up being 400 to 600B cheaper than the ones the Hostel advertised, so good deal! We arrived at a fully professional cooking school with Wok's for everyone and all the ingredients ready to do. We were also given cook books and a piece of paper giving us the option to cook certain things. Before we began the cooking we were taken to a local food market for a hour. Our instructor was very nice and spent time going through all the different fruits, oils, spices etc that is involved in ... read more

This morning we woke up and went to Wat Doi Suthep. It took a while to get up there, we had to wait for a lot of people to show up at the Tuk Tuk station before someone was willing to take us up there. Once there we wandered around for an hour hitting bells around the temple. Inside the temple there was a lot of Buddha statues and I got blessed by a monk. It was pretty cool. After the temple a group of us at the hostel went to Tiger Kingdom. We got to pet baby and big tigers. It was INSANE! It was a bit scary with the big tiger since we weren't around to go towards the front of the Tiger just the back. The next day we headed out early for ... read more

Traveling again, this time by myself. The first solo adventure I've ever had and I'm terrified. The flight to Bangkok was a very long one. When I arrived and was being taken to the hotel I suddenly remembered what Thailand looked like and smelled like, everything from the last time I was here immediately came back. I was in a simple hotel for the first night just relaxing and letting time slow down to a halt. I made friends with a little kitty and got a Thai Massage from a really nice lady named Lynn. I also managed to snipe a few pictures of a gecko before he scurried off. Being there all day was sort of hard, it was lonely and there wasn't much to do. I was next to an empty parking lot...but to ... read more

Asia » Hong Kong May 22nd 2011

This weekend I took a quick trip to Hong Kong. With only a day and 1/2 to wander about I started doing some research and decided to hit the Lantau Island's Big Buddha, Temple Street, Avenue of Stars, The Peak and a Gold Fish Market. I arrived Friday night and moments after getting to the hotel I decided to figure out how to get to the MTR and start exploring. Since it was already pretty late I decided just to head to Temple Street. Touted as a big famous market I was curious. To my surprise I found that the journey this time was way cooler than the destination. Knowing nothing of the city I managed to ask a few questions at the hotel and successfully found the cool double decker trolly that took me to ... read more
