This weekend I decided to take a trip to the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Longshan Temple and was greeted with a surprise at the C.K.S memorial hall. I figured I've been here long enough to go to a museum, why not. Along the walk to the museum they had the left overs from the Flora Expo. There were tons of flowers everywhere. I took this time to pull out my macro lense and take some nice flower pics. Now, on to the museum..they had a Monet exhibit showing, Now i'm not a huge fan of Monet, but they did have a quote posted on the wall that I thought was quite cool "I have been painting non stop so I can capture as much as possible before my world goes completely black" ~Monet. I think it ... read more

The theme of this week would have to be animals. A few weeks back while I was at work I was stolling through the hall when all of a sudden something caught my eye. I stopped and retraced my steps, walked in the room to find many stuffed alpacas. I was quite confused by this but they were super cute. Several weeks later, I was told "They have arrived" huh?! Who is they? "Come with me" I follow to a conference room with many many boxes of Stuffed Alpacas. It was hilariously cute. I even grew so attached to them that I bought one off of a friend to take back home ;) My next animal adventure was a random google search for "cat cafe taiwan" I was surprised to actually find mention of one in ... read more

This weekend I took a quick trip up to Shanghai to visit a few colleagues of mine. When I arrived I forgot to exchange money at the airport and just figured I would do it at the many 7Elevens just like in Taiwan, I only later found out there weren't very many in Shanghai. After checking in to the hotel I google mapped the closest 7Eleven and went on a little journey. about 10 minutes later I found one, success! but that wasn't the most exciting part of the journey, on the way back to the hotel I decided to check out a local fruit stand and what did I find...Mangosteen! Yay! I hadn't had these since the last time I was in Thailand. 6 Please :) Back in the hotel I made a silly video ... read more

This weekend I went climbing in Long Dong with Matt from InMotionAsia I wasn't aware that there was any climbing in Taiwan until I came across Matt's website. Long Dong is truly a special place. We arrived around 10 AM and walked down to Music Hall. That seemed to be the popular spot to climb. I met a lot of really nice people especially when I pulled out my new Lomo 360 Spinner camera . I even got a silly picture of people taking pictures of my camera. ;) We climbed a bit more throughout the day in areas close by, I refreshed my memory on making a prusik knot and rappelling. I also got a bit more practice removing cams out of the rock, it's quite a skill to know where the best place to ... read more

This lovely weekend I spent wandering about the city some more and visiting Yeilu Geo Park. After doing a bit of research on how to get to the Yeilu Geo Park I decided to start my journey at Taipei Main Station. I was a bit difficult to find the bus station but once I did It was easy to buy a ticket headed for Yeilu. 96NT and 1 1/2 hour ride later I was dropped off at the nearest bus station from the park. I was lucky enough to see someone else headed to the park so I cheated a bit and followed him until I got my bearings. I arrived on a cloudy day around 2:00 PM. There were quite a bit more tourists than I had expected walking about, but none the less I ... read more

I've been fortunate enough to be welcomed back to Taiwan to help with audio on another game. So far the people I've met have been awesome and I've had the opportunity to wander about the city a bit. It took a few days to get acclimated and to get over my shyness of ordering food, or talking to anyone since, I don't speak Chinese. I've wandered around the Shilin Night Market, Ximen and Wu Feng Pu, all very fun and interesting clothes and food. My favorites foods so far have been the danbing (egg circles) oh so good! It's like the best omelet ever. I've also grown quite a liking to a little cafe near my hotel called Corner. Believe it or not they serve the best pasta I've ever had. (keeping in mind i've never ... read more

This weekend the SoCal Meet-up group went out to New Jack City for some rock climbing, twister, fire poi, slack lining and zip lining fun. We pulled up to "unknown road" trying to find our rock climbing crew who had their camp decorated with christmas lights and blaring music. The first night we were there was mostly just mingling around the camp fire and spinning poi. The next morning we were headed to climb, some of the routes we were on had really crappy holds, rock would just break off the wall, that made things interesting for sure. My favorite wall was boy scout's wall. This rock was solid, many routes on one wall at different lengths and difficulties. We even met some new friends from the San Diego meet up group who let us climb on some ... read more

It's that time of year again when the creative people of the world gather together in Black Rock City. We all take time out of our lives to put in the work of making sure we have enough food, water and crazy costumes to get us through the week. A massive stream of convergance happening left and right. This year we decided to have a pre burningman trip in Bishop to try our some bouldering at the Happys, it was a nice way to break up the drive and we got some sweet photos along the way. Fast forward to the next afternoon sitting in line patiently waiting to get into burning man...then all of a sudden, lightning in the distance and rain rain rain...all cars were stopped. At first this was frustrating, but all annoyances ... read more

Back in Tokyo for 2 final days we had a few things left on the list of must see one being the Tsukiji Fish Market for some sushi. I did extensive research on the best sushi in Tokyo and then compared them to how much I was willing to spend on sushi and decided to go with Kiyomura I reccomend doing research before chosing a sushi spot as there are many and I wanted to make sure I was getting quality (which isn't hard to do steps away from the biggest fish market in the world) Anyway, I took a picture of the outside with my camera and asked a few people along the way the direction and we found it. There was a huge group of 30 Japanese tourists going in and the place was ... read more

Asia » Japan » Hiroshima » Hiroshima June 16th 2010

After getting off of the Cargo ship ferry adventure, Brad and I headed for some history in Hiroshima. We walked around Peace park to see the A bomb dome, Peace Bell and the memorial for all of the children who died. We took a moment to ring the bell for peace and then went to the Hiroshima museum and walked around reading the story of Hiroshima and looking at paintings people made depicting some of the horrible things that happened. Overall a very sad thing to have happened, it was pretty surreal to be standing on the very spot that was once in ruins. The positive thing is that the city is now thriving and there are many new generations of kids coming to the park with donations of paper cranes to leave behind. Tomorrow our ... read more
