Getting going
March 29th 2012
After many years with other priorities (not all of them the best ones) the time has come!
I am on the brink of setting off for my first motorbike trip into another African Country together with a fairly new biking friend, Tommie.
a Couple of months ago I was introduced to Tommie by a mutual friend. Tommie is one of those bikers who will never say no if you invite him for a ride. As Jannie, the guy who introduced us said to me, "Tommie will postpone the payment on his bakkie to go with on a trip".
When I phoned Tommie to ask him if he would be interested in going to Malawi via Mozambique, there was little or rather no hesitation from his side.
Since then the trip planning has matured a little and Malawi will have to wait for the next time.
Although I have travelled in some African countries before, I always underestimate the time it takes to travel on some of the special roads.
This time common sense luckily got hold of me early enough and we decided to travel only in Mozambique. Another premise we set, and of which I am very proud, is that we decided to go as far as we get while enjoying what Mozambique has to offer. This is in stark contrast to my normal "have to get to a specific place at a specific time".
In closing of this introduction I would like to say the following:
1. This first blog I do and I hope there will be many more
2. This is my first of hopefully many more African bike trips
3. You have to excuse my Afrikaans English
4. Both Tommie and myself see tar roads as the greatest hurdle to cross
